Chapter 135: Counterattack
If what she was thinking was true, then the military base and Black Vulture were not enemies from the start.
They had been working together in secret. All the battles she remembered from her past life might have been staged. The citizens were only used as pawns, forced to pay crystals for "protection" while both sides grew richer.
Ivy clenched her fists. Her heart felt heavy. In her past life, she had thought those wars were unavoidable, that it was just part of surviving. Now she understood it was a trick from the very beginning.
She paced in her room, her thoughts racing. If the military base and Black Vulture really joined hands, then it was worse than she expected. Not only would they control the strongest fighters, but they would also control the resources. Ordinary people would have no choice but to submit or die.
Not to mention… she planned to kill some of the members of Black Vultures who would eventually join the Talon Base and torture her later.
Ivy muttered to herself that she needed to find Silas and ask him about the military person. If she could figure out who it was and kill that person, maybe she could destroy the Black Vultures altogether.
But she was too hopeful. Things were not that simple.
That evening, Silas came back. His eyes landed on Ivy, and when he noticed the food on the table, he raised an eyebrow. A small smile appeared on his face.
"You were waiting for me?" he asked.
Ivy nodded. "Yes. I wanted to ask you something."
Silas smirked. "What is it?"
Instead of answering right away, Ivy looked at him seriously. "Wash your hands first."
Silas listened without arguing. He walked to the side, washed his hands, and came back to sit at the table. Once he sat down, he looked at her again. "Now tell me. What do you want to ask?"
Ivy's eyes did not leave his. Her voice was steady, but inside her chest her heart was beating fast. "I want to know. Who is the military person working with the Black Vultures?"
The smile on Silas's face slowly faded. For a few seconds, his expression went blank. Then he leaned back slightly and stared at her. "What are you asking me?"
"I need to know," Ivy said. "This is important. It will decide what I do next."
Hearing her words, Silas was quiet for a moment. Then he sighed and spoke in a calm voice.
"I'll be honest with you. It isn't just one person. Half of the military may already be involved. And the higher ups… they might be planning to bring the Black Vultures under their wing, to use them as a countermeasure."
Ivy's eyes widened. She froze, completely shocked. "What…?"
Silas nodded.
"There are secrets I can't tell you. But you need to understand this. The military is not as simple as it looks. It's already unstable. There's a high chance it will break apart soon. And the ones who sit at the top don't want to lose their power. They'll try to control as many bases as they can. That's why they're building bases all over the country. But the truth is, many of those bases will end up under the control of a few powerful people. And some of those people have already decided to let the Black Vultures become one of those bases. They want them as a tool."
He paused, his eyes unreadable.
"Whenever someone from the military dares to oppose those leaders, they won't kill them directly. Instead, those people will be sent out. They'll end up at the bases that are supposedly the Military's enemies. But in reality, they'll just be fed to the Black Vultures. The military and the Black Vultures will cooperate to get rid of them."
Ivy sat frozen. Her lips parted, but no sound came out at first. Finally, in a low voice, she whispered, "I never thought the military would do something like this…"
Silas saw the deep look on Ivy's face. His voice softened. "You don't need to worry so much. You are already on the military's side. There will not be a time when they step on you. In a way, you are Black Vulture's owner too."
Ivy's eyes flickered. She looked at him with a complex expression before shaking her head. "That is not true. It is possible that the Blackthorn family might be kicked out."
Silas froze. His eyes narrowed. "Why do you say that? Did you see something in one of your visions?"
Ivy's body stiffened. For a moment, she did not answer. Then, making up her mind, she decided to use her fake ability as an excuse. She lowered her voice and said,
"Yes. In my vision, I saw that the person who is cooperating with the Black Vultures is an enemy of the Blackthorn family. If that happens, then the Blackthorn family will not survive the coming storm. They will be kicked out of the military. They will have no place to live."
Silas's eyes widened at her words. His face turned serious.
Meanwhile, Ivy's thoughts drifted back to her past life. She remembered how things had really happened.
After Silas's death, the military had slowly cut off the Blackthorn family's power. At first, she had believed it was only bad luck.
But now, when she looked back, she wondered if it had been planned from the very beginning.
Stephen had died. Silas had died. Only Daniel, Talia, and Asher were left in the military base.
But their strength had fallen, and they were soon pushed out under false accusations.
They were insulted by people who once respected them.
At that time, they were broken. Silas's death had shocked them too much. They could not fight back. Daniel later tried, but his wife died, and his spirit was crushed.
Talia was haunted by her trauma and could no longer focus on the family's survival.
As for Asher, he was betrayed by his closest friend. He died because of that betrayal, and the girl who loved him died trying to save him.
One by one, the Blackthorn family was destroyed.
