Chapter 32: Fallen into the Net

When Li Yu returned to Bratis, the battle between Ireya and the Black Hand had already ended for more than half a day.

In fact, the battle lasted a very short time. It began at dawn, and within less than a quarter of an hour, the Black Hand's army had completely collapsed amidst the smoke and roar of cannons and muskets, becoming lambs to the slaughter.

However, having learned from his mentor's lesson, Adela didn't charge too far ahead, so he led his trusted followers to resist for a while longer, but his struggle was already in vain.

The Black Hand refused to surrender and ultimately chose to die in battle. Before his death, he wanted to do one last thing—to chop down Hui, who had betrayed him.

But Hui, seeing the unfavorable situation, fled quickly. When Adela swung his sword towards him, he directly rolled off his horse and then ran on all fours like a beast.

The warhorse ridden by the Black Hand was named Storm. Storm was in its prime, possessing speeds surpassing other warhorses, running like a storm, which was also the source of its name.

However, no matter how hard Storm tried this time, it couldn't catch up with the figure ahead.

Moreover, the Black Hand and his men were already surrounded, and they could only watch as Hui fled further and further away.

But Hui couldn't rejoice for long either. Just as he was about to escape the battlefield and rush into a small forest, a large net suddenly sprang out on the open ground in front of him.

Hui wanted to stop, but it was too late. By inertia, he crashed right into the net, getting caught directly, and was then hoisted into the air.

Jude walked out slowly from behind a large tree, "It seems the god behind you did not favor you, or those poor fellows on the other side."

For the first time, Hui lost that composure that didn't match his age. In the net, he looked quite bewildered, even flustered.

"This... how is this possible?"

"Are you asking how I could catch you, or why the Black Hand failed?"

Jude looked in a rather good mood, approaching Hui with his oil saw, revealing a somewhat ferocious smile.

"You are a beast, and beasts instinctively run towards the forest when frightened, because the forest is their home where they feel safer.

"Don't ask me how I know this. I was a beast once too. To catch you, I came early with a fishing net. Of course, if I just randomly picked a spot in the large forest, chances are I would miss you."

Jude said as he pointed to the sky above. Hui, after being ensnared, also noticed a small black dot above his head, which was a strange featherless iron bird, having three eyes.

"Oh, you've spotted it. It's a helper sent by my master. It told me which direction you were coming from so I could set up the trap in advance."

After a moment of silence, Hui asked again, "Why, why weren't you guys cursed? Clearly, Selena said she saw you drink the honey wine containing the curse of the Life Goddess with her own eyes. Did she lie to us?"

"No, she was telling the truth," Jude said. "We were indeed cursed by your goddess, but the Prophet removed the curse for us."

Upon hearing this, Hui wasn't able to clear the doubts in his heart; instead, he seemed even more shocked, "Merlin... Merlin actually removed Valria's curse?"

Jude nodded, "We won, and you lost. Isn't that answer already clear enough?"

Once again, Hui fell into silence. After a long time, he raised his head to look at Jude, "Since you've already won, why not just kill me outright?"

"The Prophet specifically instructed me to spare your life."

"Why?"

"He has questions to ask you."

......

Hui was brought back to the camp by Jude and later had his hands and feet bound to a stake. Hui moved his neck to take a look around.

He found that he wasn't the only one tied to a stake. There were some familiar faces, mostly nobles from Golden Valley who had followed the Black Hand into battle.

The looks directed at him were filled with hatred. Had they been able to move, they probably would have rushed over to tear him apart.

Since they couldn't reach him, they didn't give up. They cursed him with vicious words, including Cornelia's priest and the Life Goddess.

They spewed all the venomous words they could think of, and when they ran out of words, someone started spitting at Hui.

This act gave others inspiration, and like ants discovering honey, all the captives turned their heads toward Hui.

Before long, Hui was covered in foul-smelling saliva all over his body, face, and hair.

Hui remained silent, not because he didn't want to retort, but mainly because he worried that opening his mouth might lead to swallowing someone's saliva.

This torment continued until late night, when the guard took Hui out of that temporary open-air cell made of fences and led him to a tent.

Inside the tent, there were four people. Hui recognized two of them. He had met Ireya once before, and the serious-faced knight in armor behind Ireya was the former Imperial Forest Guard Captain, Duren.

In addition to Ireya, there was a foreigner clad in black attire, whom Hui hadn't met but could guess his identity at this moment.

—The famed Prophet Merlin of the Double Rest Sect.

Hui still didn't want to believe that someone could remove Valria's curse, but he had to admit that this foreigner and the god behind him were indeed very powerful.

As for the fourth person in the tent, Hui had no impression of her. She looked like an advisor next to Ireya.

Hui tried hard to lift his head, not wanting to show any fear or timidity in front of the faith followers of the Double Rest Sect.

He even spoke first, addressing Li Yu, "Do you have something to ask me?"

Without waiting for Li Yu to respond, he continued, "Then you're looking for the wrong person. I am not like those guys outside; my faith is firm enough."

Li Yu didn't pay attention to his words and curiously asked, "Are you the messenger? Did Cornelia awaken special running abilities in you with the Bloodline Potion?"

Hui indeed kept his mouth shut, saying nothing.

The Prophet of the Double Rest Sect continued, "That girl named Selena, is she your companion? She is an assassin, also transformed by the Bloodline Potion, able to silently infiltrate many places, even easily kill enemy generals.

After a pause, Li Yu continued, "And this means there should be a third person who can cast curses. The curse before came from his hand."

Upon hearing this, Hui's expression finally changed.

"Where is he now?" Li Yu asked.

Hui coldly replied, "Aren't you the Prophet of Saturday? Why not ask your own god?"
