Work Prophet

Chapter 33: I Was Just Being Polite

Upon hearing Gray's words, the fourth person in the room suddenly laughed and said, "How do you know our master will give us an answer."

Gray was taken aback upon hearing this and then showed a disdainful look, "You don't need to scare me. If the master truly knows everything, then who in this continent could stop you?"

"I'm not trying to scare you," Kaden replied, "But you were right in your last sentence. There indeed is nothing on this continent that can stop us."

The powerful confidence she displayed when speaking made Gray have doubts.

However, it wasn't long before Gray steadied himself again.

He had made up his mind not to speak another word, believing that no one could obtain any valuable information from him.

Kaden looked at Li Yu, "Let me handle him."

"How do you plan to interrogate him?"

"Remember that little gadget I asked you to bring last time? That thing will make him talk."

The little gadget Kaden referred to is scientifically named Sodium Thiosulfate, a type of anesthetic, also known more famously as truth serum.

Initially, this anesthetic was used to ease childbirth pains, but doctors soon found that even under anesthesia, those women could still answer questions.

Later, psychiatric doctors used it to help soldiers suffering from post-war aphasia recover. Afterward, the police and espionage units began to use Sodium Thiosulfate to induce targets to reveal information.

However, the truth serum is not always effective. It only puts someone into a semi-conscious state, similar to intoxication, but professional training can help resist its effects.

Furthermore, what the target says under anesthesia may not be the truth but rather their delusions, which isn't a significant problem, merely a wasted trip at worst.

In Kaden's view, Gray is the perfect target for the truth serum. As a native of the Bratis Continent, Gray is utterly unaware of the truth serum.

Half an hour later, Kaden walked out of the tent, subconsciously wanting to light up a cigarette, only to remember she was no longer on Earth and didn't have any cigarettes on her.

So she asked Li Yu on the side, "When can we start growing tobacco? Don't mind me; I'm just saying."

"I didn't know you were proficient in interrogation." Li Yu pulled out a pack of Yuxi from his backpack and handed it to Kaden.

Her face showed a hint of surprise as she took the cigarette, "Not exactly proficient, just mimicking a few CIA interrogations I've seen."

Kaden pulled out a cigarette from the pack, put it in her mouth, then realized she didn't have a lighter, so she walked to a nearby bonfire to light the cigarette with a burning stick.

"Luckily, once the real experts arrive, I won't have to do this anymore."

"What did you find out?"

"They indeed have a companion still in Rune City," Kaden took a drag of the Yuxi, but seemingly not used to the unfamiliar taste, she coughed twice.

"I found out what she looks like, easily recognizable, and besides, she's pregnant. When we get to Rune City, we can capture her.

"It's a pity Cornelia isn't here this time. Otherwise, we could solve this Life Church issue, but it's fine. Didn't you say the weapons are almost here?"

"With those missiles, tanks, and armed helicopters, we'll have enough to crush the natives here," Kaden said, "Even if those three groups combined, they wouldn't stand a chance against us."

"Remember to control casualties," Li Yu reminded, "Every person you kill now is one less available for reincarnation later."

Kaden nodded, "I know, that fool rabbit trusts me a lot now and usually takes all my suggestions seriously. I just need to tell her that a true king should show mercy, and she'll spare the captives."

The conversation between Kaden and Li Yu was in Spanish, and no one else could understand it. After speaking, she blew out a smoke ring.

"See, following the board's directives isn't that hard, right? We're collaborating well now.

"And even when all our people reincarnate, your Savior status won't change. At that point, people will still need you to bring them faith, to help them forget the sadness of civilization's decline and separation from family and friends."

"Will you, too?" Li Yu asked.

"What?"

"Feel sadness."

Kaden smiled, "I have a ton of work to do, no time for sadness. Whether on Earth or in another plane, always climbing upward is the only way to gain more resources."

Li Yu said nothing in response, only stating, "If you need anything in the future, you can tell me."

Kaden cast a sideways glance at the Prophet from the Double Rest Sect, smirking, "Are you trying to bribe me to give you high weekly scores?"

Li Yu said, "I was just saying, in China, this is usually called being polite."

"No, it's good you're taking the scores seriously. It proves you're starting to take responsibility, but I'll still score you honestly."

Kaden said, "Because somewhere, someone is definitely scoring my performance too."

She then patted Li Yu on the shoulder, "Of course, no need to worry too much. So far, your scores from me have always been high."

"After today's battle, the Golden Valley will be in our hands, and next will be Elk Valley."

Kaden and Li Yu chatted briefly about the following plans, with Kaden never mentioning her journey to the Temple to use the simulator.

Li Yu didn't ask either, and after finishing her cigarette, Kaden returned to her tent to sleep.

The next day, the army set out again, marching joyfully towards Rune City with their victory.

The small nobles along the way had apparently also heard of the Black Hand's defeat, so they opened their gates and came out with their families to greet the arrival of the Divine Chosen King.

However, Ireya had no time for them now, as she was eager to capture the Life Church members in Rune City.

Compared to Grey and Selena, a heathen that could spread parasites is undoubtedly more destructive.

But just as they neared Rune City, a small accident happened. Gray somehow loosened the ropes on his hands and under the cover of night, jumped out of the wooden cage holding him.

He then dropped to all fours, quickly sprinting away.

The guard watching the prisoners noticed him, chased him on horseback, but didn't catch up, and most arrows shot by the archers were dodged by Gray.

Only one arrow hit his left shoulder, but instead of slowing down from the pain, Gray sped up, finally diving into the rushing river and washed away.
