Chapter 31: True Warriors Never Fear Sacrifice
Four hours later, the Challenger 650 flew over Siberia.
However, the plane did not head towards the city, but instead arrived at an uninhabited valley. The Challenger 650 lowered its altitude somewhat, brushing past the mountain peaks before a tattered runway appeared ahead.
Sergei said to Li Yu, "Hold tight, we're about to land."
"Here?" Li Yu glanced down through the porthole. Below, there seemed to be a small airport, but by the looks of it, it had been abandoned for quite some time.
"Don't worry," Sergei said, "after all, you can keep reviving, so even if the landing fails, you won't lose anything."
"What about you?"
Sergei took another sip from his aluminum jug, "I didn't realize you were so thoughtful, but don't worry about me, just focus on doing your own job well."
Despite the runway's poor condition and apparent lack of sufficient length, compounded by the fact that it was already nighttime, under the pilot's superb flying skills, the Challenger 650 successfully completed the landing.
Once the plane was stabilized, Sergei was the first to descend the ladder, taking a deep breath.
"Oh, truly nowhere compares to home, but alas, soon I will never see such a beautiful place again."
Li Yu followed closely behind him and also walked out of the plane, glancing around. This place was desolate, with nothing but mountains and trees, and not a trace of human habitation.
Taylor pointed to a place in the distance that looked like a warehouse and tossed a small flashlight to Li Yu,
"It's over there. You go by yourself. I need a little convenience now."
As he spoke, he unzipped his pants and relieved himself on a rock.
Li Yu walked in the direction he pointed until he reached the warehouse, where the rusty iron door in front wasn't locked.
Li Yu merely gave it a light push, and it creaked loudly before unexpectedly tipping entirely backward.
It crashed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust. Li Yu took two steps back, waited for the dust to settle, and then turned on the flashlight.
The scene before him stunned him.
Inside the warehouse were piles of tanks, armored vehicles, missile launchers, heavy machine guns, and even a row of armed helicopters, and it seemed all were genuine.
Sergei returned with his trousers raised, "So, do you like my trash?"
"With all due respect, these things don't look like trash."
"My country scrapped them just a week ago, discarded here unwanted, so by any measure, they're considered trash now."
Sergei casually wiped his hands on his clothes.
"Do you want me to use the Eco-friendly Frog to pick all of these items back?"
"Exactly, each of these weighs several hundred kilograms, even up to tens of thousands of kilograms; you can't carry them with just your small backpack.
"I've already had the trash within three thousand square kilometers around here cleared and a restricted zone established.
"As long as you set the frog's activity area here, it stands a good chance of fetching those big items back for you."
"But even if I acquired these heavy weapons in another universe, I'd lack enough fuel to drive them to the battlefield, and there wouldn't be anyone who could use them."
"Don't worry about the fuel; later I'll have someone bring over some large tankers." Sergei said, "As for users, I'm planning to send fifty Gru Special Forces military experts over to help you.
"Let no doubt linger that the natives of another universe will recognize the prowess of us Slavs, making Earth's power known."
"Can you find fifty terminally ill special forces soldiers over there..." Li Yu saw Sergei's sinister smile just as he mentioned it, knowing then that such a question was redundant.
"True warriors never fear sacrifice, never."
Sergei emphasized, he raised his head, drank all the remaining liquor from his aluminum jug, and was about to toss the jug away but reconsidered, complaining.
"Damn it, now there's no littering allowed in this damned place."
He then said to Li Yu, "Go on in and take a look. If there's anything special you want, but it's not there, just let me know, and I'll have someone bring it over for you.
"If there's nothing else, let Vladimir send you back. I want to stay here alone for a while longer and bid farewell to this beautiful land."
"Are there nuclear weapons in here?" Li Yu didn't move his feet but asked again.
Sergei gave him a sidelong glance, "Do you want them? I can find a way to get you a few intercontinental missiles."
"No, actually, I'd prefer that nuclear weapons not appear in this… junkyard."
Li Yu explained, "If we treat that universe as another Earth, it's best not to let that land suffer nuclear contamination."
"What you say also makes sense." Sergei said, "Then let's remove nuclear weapons from the list, as these true killers won't be needed to deal with those natives."
After Li Yu finished inspecting the arsenal before him, he boarded the Challenger 650, which traversed the bumpy runway and managed a takeoff at the last moment.
At this moment, Li Yu felt he truly needed a bottle of vodka to relax his mind.
He looked down once more. The abandoned airstrip was becoming more and more obscure, Sergei's towering figure now only the size of an ant, gradually vanishing into the night, no longer visible.
But Li Yu knew at that moment he was tilting his head, gazing towards the direction of the plane.
Li Yu retracted his gaze, pulled down the shade, leaned into the seat, and then, amidst the slight turbulence of the aircraft, sank into slumber.
When he opened his eyes again, he was already back at the familiar airport, where the pilot patted his shoulder to wake him.
Li Yu glanced at his watch; it was almost eight in the morning. At the airport, he casually had a bite to eat, went to the parking lot, and retrieved the BMW parked there.
Upon getting in, he could still smell the faint remnant of alcohol inside until he rolled down the window on the way back, letting the scent gradually dissipate.
Li Yu returned to the office, took out a pen, and on a note, wrote down — Immortal Body, but quickly scratched it out, changing it to Fearless of Death, and added a question mark at the end.
Then he wrote down distinct personal characteristics, able to leverage national power.
Afterward, Li Yu recalled his previous meetings with Taylor, adding a note — existence of contradictions.
After writing, he stared at the note for a while longer before taking out a lighter and burning it.
Only when the flame nearly scorched Li Yu's fingers did he toss the remaining paper into the glass cup before him, watching even the last bit burn to ash.
Li Yu poured the ashes into the sink, turned on the faucet to wash them away, cleaned the glass cup, adjusted his collar, and prepared to continue with his work.
