Chapter 558: Speed vs Strength
"How may I help you?" asked Adam, as the figure appeared before him.
It was clear that he was from the Hidden Wolf Clan that the Lethal Arrow had mentioned, and if the wolf mask and the fact that he appeared straight after their battle didn't give it away, he had a very similar aura to her.
"The Clan Master has invited you to visit us whenever you are free and thanks you for the mercy you displayed during your bout against our young miss," the man spoke as he handed over a grey card.
As soon as Adam lay his hands on the card, the man disappeared into thin air and even Adam could barely sense any trace of him or his movement, which was a feat not many could accomplish.
"What an interesting clan? And she is worthy of being their young miss... Maybe I will pay them a visit after the tournament, and they could help with finding my aunt," he said to himself as he went to a private resting chamber to recover, unbothered with watching the rest of the quarter-finals battles.
He had already seen all that was to be seen from the rest of the contestants and was already confident who would make it to the semi-finals, and from the matchups, he would have to face Su Lan in the semi-finals.
Activating the Ethereal Recovery Skill, Adam entered a deep meditative state and recovered at unbelievable speeds, while Su Lan fought her quarter-final match.
Her opponent wielded a sword just like her, and the sword was one of the most common weapons for cultivators and martial artists in China, but it was unlikely one could match her talent and skill.
It was a tough battle, which was to be expected considering she was facing a quarter-finalist, but she still came out on top and in great style, completely defeating her opponent's swordsmanship and getting him to submit with her blade to his neck.
The other matches paled in comparison to Adam's and Su Lan's, and weren't nearly as entertaining, but what most were looking forward to was for the two to be pitted against each other.
And after a few hours or so of rest, they were recalled to the arena for the semi-finals and the crowd could barely sit still, observing that Adam was planning on using a sword against Su Lan.
Swoosh!
The two of them blitzed toward each other and clashed in mid-air with their blades as sparks flew everywhere, and their battle was incredible, almost as if both had already fought and knew each other's moves.
It was so fast-paced and there were too many clashes to count or distinguish, with the battle appearing to be relatively evenly matched, until suddenly Su Lan threw away her sword and put her arms up.
"I forfeit the match," she said, knowing that Adam was not going to give up, and that there was no point even trying against him.
If she landed a blow on him she knew that it was only because he let her and he wasn't trying, and she also didn't want to have to stretch the tournament any longer than needed.
Her rewards as a semi-finalist were already enough, and she was confident she could secure the third place in the battle for it with the other semi-finalist that lost, so she wasn't particularly disappointed.
And her main objective of displaying her talents and refining her swordsmanship were achieved.
With that, the first semi-finals battle had been concluded, and the crowd didn't enjoy it much and it was nowhere near as intense as in previous years, where the contestants would seek to kill each other for the top spot.
-
Han Qiqiang vs Mo Yongliang.
Making it to the semi-finals, their skills spoke for themselves and Han Qiqiang proclaimed himself to be the fastest youth in the world, while Mo Yongliang proclaimed himself to be the strongest.
Speed vs Strength.
An interesting battle that many were eager to watch, but Adam was already sure of the results and didn't seem very engaged as he watched it beside Su Lan from a private watching stand.
"Who do you think will win?" she asked.
"Isn't it obvious?"
"Who?"
"Han Qiqiang of course. The difference in their speed is much greater than their difference in strength, and no matter how strong you are, if you have a blade to your neck, there isn't much you can do. Added to that, he seems quite proficient in the use of the daggers, and is definitely someone with battle experience," spoke Adam.
Although his words were quite flattering and he was praising the man, he didn't seem very interested in him.
"He kinda reminds me of myself when I just started out, but sadly he will have to lose in the finals. No matter what power he has, it's futile before me."
Su Lan knew that he wasn't being arrogant or overconfident in the slightest and was itching for her match to secure the third place, feeling as though she was yet to show her full power in the tournament so far.
The second semi-final match began, and just like Adam had predicted, Han Qiqiang had won the battle and he seemed to have surfed his way through the tournament.
Each match he would only use as much power and skill need to just barely win his matches, and he had even managed to get by Adam's sights, who didn't pay him much attention.
But now that he watched his battle closely, he could see that Han Qiqiang was clearly very confident and comfortable, while the deathly aura that he had, was nothing to scoff at.
Daggers really did bring the darkness out of people, but he had more to him than met the eye.
Looking over at Adam, Han Qiqiang had a small smile on his face and had no signs of fear, which Adam was impressed by and he couldn't help but be quite eager to face him.
However, when their battle was set to begin, he never could have imagined what would come out of his mouth.
