When Dragon Balls Descend Upon Marvel

Chapter 250: Odin’s Cheating

Boom!

Smith Dole's charged punch slammed into the Destroyer's neck, denting the metal inwards — but in the next second, the dent instantly reformed before his eyes, and the Destroyer counterattacked.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Smith quickly parried the blows, his brow furrowing. He could feel it — the Destroyer's strength had increased even further.

Was this really the same thing Thor had supposedly smashed with a single hammer?

Smith flipped backward to create distance, gathering ki in both hands to unleash a Kamehameha, while the Destroyer opened its faceplate, red light gathering in its head.

"Kamehameha!"

Zzzzt!

The Destroyer fired its laser, colliding head-on with Smith's Kamehameha. The two energy blasts didn't explode upon contact but locked in a stalemate.

Seeing this, Smith shouted, pouring out all his ki. His combat power surged to 2,899 — and that still wasn't his limit. If he used a fully charged Makankōsappō (Special Beam Cannon), he could reach 4,290, but there was no one here capable of holding off the Destroyer long enough for him to charge it.

"Haaah!"

With Smith's full force — and his knowledge of the "left side loses" beam struggle principle — the Kamehameha pushed through the Destroyer's energy and surged forward.

Boom!

A massive mushroom cloud rose into the sky. The moment the beam struggle began, Sif and the Warriors Three had rushed to Thor's side, shielding him. Thor held Jane in his arms, while Darcy and Dr. Erik Selvig wisely hid behind the group.

The terrifying shockwave swept over them. Even with their shields raised and divine power flowing, Hogun and the others were thrown into the air. No one escaped unscathed, though the four had blocked the worst of it.

Farther away, Coulson and the others weren't as lucky — they and their vehicles were blasted away, badly injured but alive.

Everything behind the Destroyer's position was erased. Fortunately, the battle was on the edge of town; if it had been in the center, the entire settlement would have been obliterated.

Coulson crawled from the wreckage, face bloodied. Sitwell, gasping for breath, muttered in horror,

"Too terrifying… we ordinary people don't even qualify to watch this."

Coulson nodded grimly.

"We don't even know who — or what — that big thing fighting Smith Dole is."

Sif rose and ran straight to Thor.

"Thor, are you alright?"

"I'm fine. Thanks to you for blocking most of the blast."

She glanced briefly at the woman in Thor's arms but said nothing.

They pulled Darcy and Erik to their feet and turned toward the blast's epicenter. As the smoke cleared, the Destroyer emerged.

Smith's face was grim. He had just seen a flash of divine light and runes on its body — likely Runes of Eitri.

Inwardly, Smith cursed. He refused to believe his full-power Kamehameha was weaker than one of Thor's hammer strikes. Even full strength, Thor couldn't destroy an entire city — whereas if Smith had aimed that beam at the ground, half a city would have been gone.

After all, Nappa, with a combat power of 4,000, could casually wipe out a metropolis. Not even Ultron-era Thor could do that without Stormbreaker in hand.

The runes made it clear — Odin was meddling from behind the scenes. Fine. If the Kamehameha didn't work, the Makankōsappō would.

Smith turned to Thor's group.

"Asgardians — can any of you hold this thing off for a while? I need time to prepare a killing move."

Sif and the Warriors Three exchanged uneasy glances. That last attack had nearly shattered their bodies, yet it hadn't scratched the Destroyer. How could they hope to hold it back?

Thor stepped forward.

"Leave it to me."

Sif shouted,

"Thor, you've lost your godly power — you can't stop it! Hogun, Fandral, Volstagg — the four of us together!"

They grabbed their weapons, but Thor caught Sif's shoulder.

"You've done enough."

"I won't run — I want to die like a warrior. Let today's story be sung!"

"Live, and tell the story to the children yourself. Go!"

The Destroyer didn't pause for their exchange. A beam shot at Smith, who narrowly dodged — it was now nearly as fast as he was.

Smith pressed two fingers to his forehead, gathering ki to a terrifying degree. The air around him rippled with power.

Thor faced his friends.

"You must return to Asgard and stop Loki."

"What about you?"

"Don't worry — I have my own plan. Go! I can hold the Destroyer."

Jane called out,

"Wait! What's he doing?"

No one could answer her.

Thor walked toward the Destroyer.

"Brother, whatever wrongs I've done, whatever brought you to this, I'm sorry."

He knew Loki must be controlling the armor. If he could talk him down, the battle would end — or at least buy Smith time.

On the throne in Asgard, Loki heard his brother's voice and hesitated.

"These people are innocent. Killing them brings you no honor. If you must kill, then kill me. Call a ceasefire now."

Hearing Thor's plea, Loki finally relented, extinguishing the Destroyer's flames and closing its faceplate.
