Werewolf Leveling: Building the Strongest Pack in the Apocalypse

Chapter 153: The Scorpion Hunter

So this is her new organ. The system said it would develop differently for each ghoul. A scorpion tail for Yuki seemed fitting somehow. The tail was nearly two meters long, curving upwards, and at the end of it was a bulbous section the size of a basketball. The deadly looking stinger glinted faintly in the moonlight.

I was in awe when I saw it. So much so that I couldn't fight the urge to reach out and touch it. It felt like cold, hard steel, enough to break through bones with little effort. I wasn't the only one amazed by the tail; Yuki looked at it in awe.

"What is this?" She muttered as she slowly began to move the tail up and down, then side to side. Her smile widened when she realized she could control it.

"This is the gift I gave you. A gift you'll use to protect yourself and hunt," I said.

"A gift just for me?" she chuckled. "My body feels incredible. Is this what it's always like when you level up?"

"Yes. You'll continue to get stronger the more you level up. Let's try it out on another prey, but this time I won't intervene."

Saying this, I turned my attention back to the city, finding a worthy prey for Yuki to fight.

"Are you going to find someone strong again?" Yuki asked as she played with her tail, trying to get a hang of it. "There is no way a random wendigo we happen to pick out of a city of people is that good in a fight. Well, it's possible, but I think you chose someone strong on purpose to teach me a lesson."

She was more perceptive than I thought. Maybe that head of hers is good for something. As she spoke and carried on with her practice swings, I spotted something suitable.

"I found someone."

"Ooh, who is it?" The moment I said that, Yuki rushed to take a look. "Oh, you mean that big, gnarly lizard man? His scales look hard."

"Should be easy for you with that tail."

"I guess you're right. But how are we going to get him somewhere secluded?"

"Don't worry about that," I said. "Remember what I told you: I'll keep the death knights and the lich off your back. Tonight, this entire city is your playground." Yuki broke out into a devilish smile. "Mine? All mine!"

Without wasting another second, Yuki launched herself towards the lizard man. She moved with astounding agility, using her tail to push her off the ground. She flickered through the crowd of people as she leaped over vehicles and launched herself from lamp posts.

The moment she was close enough to her prey, her tail came down with deadly precision towards the lizard man. I expected an interesting fight, but what I saw in the next instant was beyond my wildest imagination.

The speed at which Yuki's tail moved when it attacked made it look as if it had teleported, and with that astounding speed, she decapitated the lizard man with hardly any effort. That lizard man, which I guessed to be at least level five, didn't even stand a chance. He was dead on the street without knowing what hit him.

The lizard man's body collapsed lifelessly to the ground, its had falling several spaces away. Yuki didn't waste a second before jumping on the now deceased lizard man to devour what was left.

While I watched her hard at work, I summoned a few of my shadow hounds from my shadow and ordered them to carry what was left of Yuki's prey back to Grey Waste.

After that, I refocused my energy back to sensing any surrounding enemies, and just as I thought, there were a few death knights rushing to the scene. There were quite a few of them, converging on my location.

I sighed tiredly before preparing for the assault. The death knights, which were practically zombies dressed in medieval armor reinforced by magic, charged at Yuki.

The first to attack was a death knight holding a spear, the tip poised to pierce through Yuki's unguarded back, but at the last second, I appeared. I used the knight's momentum to lift him off the ground and slam him against the concrete.

This resulted in an explosive crash, creating a large crater in the ground. For a second, I thought that was it, but then I felt a bone-chilling coldness wash over me when I saw the knight begin to rise from the crater, its armor clanking with every movement.

'How tough is that armor?'

The death knight shook off the damage I did to it and aimed its spear towards me, its icy blue eyes watching me intently.

The knight circled around me slowly, trying to find the right angle before thrusting its spear towards me once again. The deadly weapon whistled past my face, nearly claiming an eye if I didn't dodge in time.

The knight continued with its rapid-fire assault, thrusting its spear towards me with deadly precision. I sidestepped every one of its attacks, then struck at the gap between its armor, but since it was an undead-type monster, it couldn't feel any pain so my attack had little effect if it didn't kill him.

Seeing how hard its armor was, I activated my heat manipulation skill, and immediately, my claws began to heat up until they were glowing orange. It was only then that I thrust my claws towards the knight's torso. My claws melted through its armor like butter and grabbed at the core that lay beneath.

My claws tore through its chest, grabbing its heart and ripping it out faster than it could react. The knight fell lifelessly, and soon more knights circled around me. I wasn't gaining a lot of EXP from killing the knights, but still, it was a good exercise.

I kept the knights' attention as Yuki went on a killing spree, leveling up with ever supernatural creature she slaughtered. With every body she dropped, my shadow slaves would pick them up and carry them to Grey Waste.

The civilians erupted in a panic when they saw the carnage taking place.

Yuki cackled louder and louder as she descended into the madness of the hunt. There was no one there to stop us. For a good 15 minutes, the city completely belonged to us, and it stayed that way until I felt a powerful presence approaching us.

The air became thick with magic as dark energy swirled around us.

"It's the lich," Yuki said, licking her lips. "He doesn't have any flesh, but those bones would make excellent chew toys."

Yuki steadied herself, ready to attack as the lich prepared a powerful magical attack aimed towards us. The air buzzed wildly with magical energy until it suddenly went silent like the calm before the storm.

A thunderous explosion of dark energy ripped through the city, toppling everything in it's path and sending a shock loud enough that the whole city heard it.
