Welcome To Tomorrow: When The Gods Gave Me A New World

Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly, what a day

Kazu wakes with a mild shaking, then he notices the two ladies cuddling him are whispering an argument, so he listens for a moment.

Anna is whispering, "No… you have to wait for him to choose you. You can't just grab him. He's not like the males you knew, he treats you with respect, you should treat him the same."

Orolfie says, "Me nice to Kazu, not good? Touch bad?"

Before Anna can respond, Kazu speaks in orcish. "Touch is good if you have permission, no permission is bad." He then kisses their foreheads and says to both in Vaynish, "Good morning, welcome to tomorrow. Ready to get up ladies?"

Anna asks, "What are your plans for the day?"

Kazu answers, "I plan on adding electrical wiring, making a fuse box, then placing a few appliances around the house and something special for the living room. After that maybe assess the magical aptitude of Orolfie and the other three. What are your plans?"

Anna thinks for a moment then answers, "I think I'll get Rask or Felix to help me make more rods, then enchant them. I'd like to take at least one hundred of them to Chrispin today."

"If you are not done by the time I'm done I'll come out and help you." Kazu replied. "And you Orolfie? Got any plans?"

Orolfie distractedly says, "Help you, If want help. If no, I help others."

"Sounds good, let's get ready for the day then." Kazu says as he climbs over Orolfie to get up from the bed, checking to see if she is ticklish along his way, to his surprise she is. Kazu smiles at her as he finishes getting out of bed.

Orolfie lays there smiling watching Kazu walk to the bathroom. Anna points out that his eyes are above his nose, not below his belly button. Not really listening, Orolfie mutters in Vaynish something about him having a nice nose below his belly button, which causes Anna to burst into laughing fits.

Eventually they all leave his room and begin their day. Orolfie ends up helping Kazu run the wires. As he finishes each room he adds electrical outlets with circuit breakers from his bag. The areas that were wired for specific Items, received those items, the servants bathroom now has a clothes washer and a dryer, the kitchen now has a refrigerator, a coffee machine and a tea kettle. In the living room he attaches a projector to the ceiling, hiding the wiring in the ceiling and the wall to where the B-ray player is and fills a bookshelf full of movies. His final addition to the entertainment center is a USB strip plugged into the player, with eight hard drives attached containing 16 TB of movies and music.

Once he was done installing everything upstairs, he went down to the basement and joined Orolfie. Pulling an old worn out fuse box from his bag, he began repairing it. It was in a recycling bin back on earth since it was not really fixable, but on the new world with a bit of magic and some critical thinking he was able to refurbish it to like new condition. Since it was from one of his apartment buildings it had more available breakers than the house had rooms, so he separated out the kitchen appliances to each have a breaker, and the laundry room had three also. All other rooms got one breaker each.

After they finish, they finally leave the basement, and noticing that it's not even lunch time, they head to the workshop to help Anna. On their way to the workshop they stop to talk to the foreman, and check his progress. The foreman and his men freak out about an orc being with him, but get over it quick enough after Kazu introduces her. The foreman reassures Kazu that they will be done by the end of the workday today. Then they continue heading to the workshop.

Entering the workshop, they find Felix, Anna and Rask working away. Anna is enchanting the rods, and the other two are sitting on the floor making the rods. Once they are done making the rods they have to get up to take them to Anna. Quickly realizing the problem, Kazu and Orolfie move the, too heavy for them to lift, blocks of metal to the work bench, which quickly speeds up the assembly line. Kazu joins Anna, enchanting the rods, and Orolfie brings blocks of metal to the other two as needed. By the time Felina came to call them in for lunch, they had 286 rods enchanted.

They go inside and have lunch. During lunch Lina asks about the items he added to the kitchen and to their bathroom. After finishing lunch he shows Lina, and the others that were interested what he added to the two rooms in question. He explains what they are and how to use them. Most seemed unimpressed until he showed them how to get ice and water from the refrigerator door.

After finishing the show and tell, they head back to the workshop, Anna has decided that she wants to take 400 rods with her. Kazu decides to make 100 of the higher end models. Kazu finishes his in about an hour, then goes to help Anna. An hour later, trying not to show off the capabilities of the bag he carries, they have packed up a cart and are ready to head to the general store.

On their journey to town, Kazu asks Orolfie, "If anyone asks you anything or gets upset about you being there, please do not respond, I'll take care of it. Okay?"

Orolfie responds, "Yes sir, no respond. I not speak their tongue well, not really know they say."

"We'll work on your language skills later, Arwain and I will not always be around to interpret for you two."

Orolfie nods in understanding, and they continue their journey. Reaching the gate, the guard questions Kazu about the orc woman, but after both Kazu and Anna show their lodge cards he relents and lets her into town. Kazu and Orolfie drop off Anna and Felix at the general store, then make their way to the lodge. They want to ask about the orcs becoming hunters.

Arriving at the lodge, they go inside and find Tara working the reception desk. She greets them, "Hello big man, who's your orc… friend?" Kazu explains how they met, and why they are there. His explanation also covers her sister, Arwain and Petal. He also explains how they want to contribute to society, and not be a disruptive force like the other orcs. Finally he asks if they are able to become Hunters.

Tara explains, "We have no issues with other races joining as hunters, but they have to be able to read paperwork and talk with us. Once they can do that, we will test them, and get them a card."

Kazu gets a job from Tara, then Kazu and Orolfie excuse themselves and head to the general store. Entering the store they find Anna talking to Chrispin. When Anna sees Kazu she runs up and hugs him.

Anna excitedly says, "The matchsticks are selling for more than expected, instead of 20 copper, we get 35 copper each. We just made 1 silver and 40 bronze for the regular ones, the 100 you made sold for 1 bronze each, making us 1 silver. He already has an order for 600 more matchsticks. Felix stands next to Kazu and hands him the bag with the money in it. Without thinking Kazu dumps the contents into his smaller bag, drawing Chrispin's attention as he hands Felix the bag back.

Chrispin asks, "How does your bag carry so much?"

"Oh... Well... It's called a spatial bag, it can hold… well pretty much anything. I have not tried putting anything living in it, I'm afraid I'll kill it." Kazu answers.

Chrispin ponders for a moment, "What happens if you put food in it?"

Kazu replies, "Well if it is hot going in it's hot coming out. Which makes me think that time stops for whatever is put inside."

"Did you make it too?" Chrispin asks.

"No, I was given the bag. It uses a more complex version of the same type of magic the matchsticks uses, So I am trying to decode the magic to learn how to do it myself." Kazu explains.

"When you figure it out let me know… how much does it hold?" Chrispin asks.

"I've had about 10 of your store's worth of stuff in it, and I had no indication that it was even close to full. So… I have no clue." Kazu replies.

Chrispin reiterates that he wants to see them once Kazu figures it out, then they take their leave from the store.

Kazu decides to take Anna, Orolfie and Felix on his hunter quest. Heading away from home, they head out to hunt a FlameSnake. According to the quest sheet it is taking livestock and destroying fields in the process. It takes about an hour to reach the farm that has been its hunting ground. Kazu gives Orolfie his sword, and arms himself with his spear.

Kazu introduces the group to the farmer, his wife, and their 3 children, then head out to the fields to start their hunt. After a little over ten minutes they find the snake's trail, they follow it from where the last animal was taken, heading towards the forest. Entering the forest Kazu's three companions become more attentive to every noise they hear. After an hour of tracking, Kazu stops them.

He says, "The snake is just up ahead, I'll stay as backup. You three decide on how you want to attack before you start. If you need my advice just ask, otherwise I'll just stand here until you are ready."

They decide on their attack, then they head towards the snake, ready for battle.

Felix moves to the right, Anna moves to the left, and Orolfie heads straight to the snake. Halfway to the snake Orolfie dives out of the way of a fireball shot from the snake's mouth. The snake is 9 meters long, and 1 meter thick, with red scales and a bulge about halfway through its body, most likely from its meal the day before. Felix uses earth magic to wrap dirt around the snake's body, trapping it by the bulge of its previous meal.

Before it can try to slip its body out of the dirt mound, Anna hits it with her water shot, cutting a couple of scales and cutting into the snake. The snake turns towards Anna and begins to fire a fireball at her, but Orolfie has already recovered from her dodge and slices the snake across the side of its head. A loud cracking sound rings out as the snake's head slams into the ground, ending the fireball before it can be fired. Shaking wildly, the snake shows severe signs of disorientation, its eyes are unfocused, and it does not know who to defend from.

Felix begins another attack, using metal magic he turns the metal particles in the dirt into a spike under the snake. Using earth magic he pushes the spike into the snake, penetrating all the way through the snake keeping most of it inside the dirt mound. Felix then, using earth magic, moves the dirt towards the snake's head, opening an access point for Anna to again attack with her water shot. As Anna slices into the snake again, Orolfie continues slamming her sword into the snake's head.

As the snake stops moving, Kazu, who has been making little metal rings and watching the fight, senses another threat heading their way quickly. He moves to cut it off. He positions himself between the battle and the new threat just as another FlameSnake arrives. It is much bigger, 16 meters long and 1.5 meters thick. Not having his spear ready yet, he uppercuts the snake, a loud cracking noise echoes through the forest. The snake's head falls to his feet, then starts to raise. Kazu jumps into the air then brings his heel down on the center of its forehead, slamming it into the ground. The snake shakes briefly then stops moving permanently.

Turning back to his friends, he sees them standing around their snake, it is also deceased. Kazu places his snake into his bag, then heads over to the rest of his group.

"I see your snake is taken care of, Felix… Trapping it like that and then adding the spike was a brilliant idea. That made the fight about 80% easier than it would have been with it free. Anna… Your water shot has gotten stronger, even as the fight progressed you got better with it. Now, Orolfie… We really need to get you a better sword. The scales on the snake are stronger than steel, and that one can barely slice through steel, I know from experience. Let me pack this snake up and we will head home. I'll collect the reward tomorrow."

They go back to the farm, and show them that the snakes are dead, then head home.

Half an hour after sundown they arrive at the house. They go inside and eat then take their baths.

He then meets everyone in the living room. "Tonight we are going to watch something called a motion picture." Kazu says as he douses most of the candles..

Rask asks, "How do pictures move? Is it like a paper puppet show?"

Kazu answers, "This is from my home... country… but before we start, I need each of you to put this on your ear." He hands out cuff earrings, making sure they receive the ones set for their main language.

Once they all are wearing the earrings he turns on the projector, and a menu appears on the wall. The sisters move to protect Arwain, and Kazu asks them to relax. He informs everyone that the images on the wall can not harm them, the same way reading a book can not harm them. He finds the 1973 animated Robin Hood movie, figuring that it would be easier for them to get used to it if they did not look like people.

The movie starts, and everyone looks around for the origin of the music. Kazu sits in his chair and relaxes, as the movie continues, everyone settles down and watches the paintings moving on the wall. The language and humor translates well into each language thanks to the earrings he made during the fight earlier. His family is enjoying themselves getting lost in the story, and forgetting about the how.

During the archery tournament Arwain crawls into his lap and sits on his thigh. Kazu asks, "What's the matter little one? The movie is not scaring you, is it?"

Arwain answers, "No, the girls are moving around a lot and laughing, I just wanted to cuddle and enjoy the story. Is it ok if I stay here?"

Kazu smiles at her and leans her back into his chest. "Of course you are welcome to stay. Whatever helps you enjoy the movie. I'll try not to laugh too much."

Just after Robin gets his hat pierced by an arrow while in the moat Felina crawls onto his other knee facing him. She lays her head on his chest and falls asleep. Arwain laughs at her.

When the movie ends, everyone sits around talking about it. They talk about their favorite parts, try to gleam hidden meanings, then try to imagine the magic it took to make the movie. Eventually they all get too tired to continue the conversation and head to bed. Arwain left with the sisters while Felina is still sleeping on Kazu. As Anna and Kazu, who is carrying Felina, head upstairs Felina wakes and asks if she can sleep with them. Anna agrees, and Kazu goes along with her.

Once in the room, Kazu sets Felina on the bed and gets ready for bed. Turning back to the bed he finds Felina getting ready too. Once they are all ready, they get comfortable in bed, well Anna and Felina do, Kazu is a bit less comfortable. Felina had decided that she was comfortable laying on him so she laid back on him in the bed. Kazu kisses them on their foreheads and wishes them good night. A few minutes later the girls are asleep. Kazu lays in the bed listening to the girls breathe until he too falls asleep.
