Void Spawn - A litrpg adventure fantasy

CH163-Gathering.

Samael walked his way across town as he watched the people passing by. He was currently making his way towards the exit of the sanctuary where Nova and Ajax waited.

Heeding his advice, Nova took some time from his free schedule to go out with the two to investigate further in the 5th quadrant.

Currently, Samael's mood was fairly great. His control, quantity and purity meter were already at 91% and nearly completed. This was due to him unlocking his focal points right away with the help of Conduit.

Now all he needed to do was to train a little bit longer to begin his acquisition of his subzone. That being said, Samael planned to also begin studying one of the abilities in his skill tree, but as of the moment, he is still a little unsure which one would be best to prioritise first.

As Samael finally arrived by the front gate of the Sanctuary walls, he saw Nova and Ajax idly leaning over the edge. Sensing his presence, the two waved at him.

"How long have you waited?" Samael asked.

"Not long." Ajax straightened his back.

"So what is the plan?" Samael looked at Nova as the man fixed his clothes.

"Well, first we go to the area where Silvana found the enemy traces. We then investigate where it came from and check for potential rifts." Nova massaged his chin as his brows raised. "After that, we'll let fate decide."

Samael couldn't help but shake his head. Now he understood why Icarius and this man were close friends.

Without delaying further, the team swiftly went out as they traversed their way across the towering mountains.

As their hike slowly deepened in the forestry, the sun began its long and winding parade in the sky as it slowly reached its peak.

By late afternoon, Samael and the rest had arrived at the 5th quadrant as they made their way through another built wall.

It seems that every quadrant had their own defences in case of an attack. This just further fuelled Samael's suspicions. Sure, there may have been some error of margin for abominations to cross through, but an 8% increase when there are defences like this place? That seemed too far and out of place.

As they entered through the bastion, as Nova called it, they were greeted by the district manager who accompanied them on a walk.

"Increased monster activities?" The man asked. "Well, surely not. The reports I've read seem to completely fall within a respectable margin of error."

"But that does not seem to be the entire case," Nova cut in. "A while ago, my wife, Silvana, found that there was an 8% increase in the overall monster size in this quadrant, especially after clearing out the area not too long ago."

The manager's forehead creased. "An 8%? Well... that is indeed way beyond the acceptable ranges. Would you like me to pull up the recent records?"

"That would be appreciated," Nova thanked the man with a smile as they waited for the files in one of the buildings.

When the items finally arrived, they began to read through the scripts and ledger records within the last few months.

As the hours continued to cross through, Nova groaned as he slid down his chair. "Ughh... When is this going to end?! There's so much!"

Samael sighed as he stretched his neck and picked up another ledger. "Just read them; we're about nearly done anyway."

Ajax remained silent, checking and comparing all the previous records with stone-cold resilience.

"Precisely that! We're nearly through them, yet nothing seems to be wrong," Nova said. "Most of these records show that the abomination increase seems to indeed fall in an acceptable range. I don't see the error."

Scratching his head, Samael himself was starting to lose his will to continue. They've been at it for a while, but nothing seems to be wrong. They've reviewed the records 2 or 3 times, but everything seems to be in place.

"You got anything?" Samael turned to Ajax.

"No," Ajax replied.

Samael just shrugged as he put down the notebook. What else can they even do when all three of them don't see anything wrong?

Wait... 3?

Samael straightened himself as he picked up a few of the ledgers, opening them as he laid them in front of him.

Elyria, scan these ledgers and tell me if you see something.

Do I focus on anything, boss?

Shift your attention to the percentage of monster activities, specifically in the last few months.

You got it, boss. Scanning now.

Noticing Samael's shift in demeanour, Nova leaned forward. "Something wrong? Did you find anything?"

Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.

"Not yet," Samael muttered.

"Yet?" Nova asked, but Samael remained unbothered as Elyria finally returned.

I'm back, boss!

What did you find?

I scanned everything, and there seems to be something wrong with the percentage, as you suspected, boss.

Shoot.

Well, first of all, it is important to take note that every week there had been subjugations of the nearby abomination populations. Based on the ledger records, the 5th quadrant had not missed this once.

That is the case, so what's wrong?

Well, over the course of 8 months, which accounts for 32 weeks in total, there seems to be a rising pattern to the percentage of monster activities.

Samael's brows furrowed as he checked the ledger.

During the first few months, the percentages are low. Just enough to be in range of the margin of error. However, if you shift your attention to the entire 8 months, it begins to rise.

Samael's eyes darted back and forth as he looked at the digits. Slowly, his eyes began to widen as he understood.

"Shit..." Samael muttered.

"What? What's wrong?" Nova asked as he stood up and made his way to Samael; Ajax did the same and followed close.

"Look at the ledgers, specifically from the last eight months." Samael traced his fingers across.

"I don't see anything wrong," Nova said.

"Look at month 1. There were reports of a monster increase of about 1% even after the subjugation raids." Samael wrote them down.

"Those fall at the acceptable margin of error." Nova's brows furrowed.

"But look at month 2." Samael shifted his gaze at the second month records. "It climbed to 2%."

Ajax leaned closer, his armour clanking under his movements. "This..."

"Exactly!" Samael began to write on his paper fast. "In each passing month, the number of activities seems to rise. Due to the monthly difference, it made it nearly invisible and came off as nothing but normal. But it's not."

Nova took the ledgers as he began to examine them. "You are right. What the fuck?"

"But why?" Ajax asked. "Perhaps there is indeed a rift somewhere?"

Nova put down the records. "There could be, but the recorders seem to have been completely dormant in the area."

"Do you think they've been tampered with?" Samael asked.

Nova's jaw clenched.

"One way to find out."

Without spending another minute, Samael and the rest swiftly head out, not even waiting for morning to come. It was currently near midnight as they trekked through the dark.

With the awakened bodies of 2 saints and one above, they never really needed to sleep. Some don't even take rests for a week if they don't have any tasking to do.

As they hiked the 5th quadrant mountain and passed by multiple trees, Samael couldn't help but admire the beauty of the place.

He had never done so before. He had to always be on guard against the danger lurking in the dark, but here was different. His Void compass didn't even pick up anything more dangerous than wolves.

Eventually, they soon arrived at the location of where Silvana and her team fought the abominations.

The place was a little roughed up. One tree had fallen over and had gotten stuck at some of the other trees. There were a few burnt and sword marks on the barks and some dirt patches blown out.

Taking a deeper look, Samael could almost envision what had happened here. He could also faintly smell the iron on the blades of grass.

"You two think you can track it?" Nova asked.

"We can only try," Samael muttered as he knelt down while Ajax swiftly went on to find foot tracks. This was a standard procedure they do when they are together to divide and conquer.

Looking at one patch of dirt, Samael could tell a creature fell there, considering it was faintly disturbed. Judging by how there were no others, it means that the animals avoided the area after the battle.

Joining Ajax in what he was doing, Samael patted the man on the back. "You got anything?"

"All the tracks of the abominations seem to lead up the mountain in that direction." Ajax pointed up towards the west.

"That's the 4th quadrant?" Nova blurted out.

"The 4th quadrant?" Samael asked in return. "Isn't that farther than the 5th?"

"I don't understand either," Nova said. "I think we need to take a closer look at what the hell is happening around here."

With all of their discoveries in mind, the entire team heads their way towards the base once more as they set up a meeting early in the morning.

As the golden dawn finally peeked over the horizon, multiple squads of soldiers gathered in the meeting hall as Nova cleared his throat.

"At ease," Nova said as the soldiers sat down. "I am sure you are all surprised by the sudden meeting, but fear not; you are not in trouble." Nova looked at each and every man in the room. "A week ago, I and my companions had begun to notice that there had been a steady hike in monster activities, and so it prompted us to investigate further."

"But our investigation yielded something peculiar." Nova's face darkened. "The beasts my wife fought came from the 4th quadrant."

Murmurs erupted over the room as they all looked at each other with surprise. Theories bloomed and speculation festered as Nova cleared his throat, gathering their attention once more.

"So I ask all of you to please hand me a report of the local abomination catalogues of your quadrants. It will greatly aid our attempts to find the truth," Nova said.

With that, the meeting came to an end as the soldiers went on to fetch the items they need. In the meantime, Samael and the rest went back to the drawing board as they began to investigate what happened a week ago.

As the files they requested arrived, they began to dismantle all the information they could gather piece by piece.

"Huh." Samael's brows furrowed. "It says here they fought creatures known as Lokrias. There were 7-8 of them."

"Lokrias? I know those," Nova said. "7-8 means that's a pact of them. But first of all, that doesn't even make sense. Lokrias don't just go another quadrant over. They are territorial by nature."

"Well, it says here they did. And a whole pact?" Pulling up the reports on the 4th quadrant, Samael resumed. "Oddly enough, these guys are native to the 4th quadrant only, and their battle logs show that there's been a decline of these specific creatures and that they've mostly encountered Carpons."

"What the fuck?" Nova blurted out as he pulled the catalogue. "Carpons are from the third quadrant."

Samael's brows furrowed as he slowly lined up all the catalogues from the 1st to the 8th quadrant.

As he read through them and compared, his visage began to dim down.

"The abominations are gathering in the 5th quadrant."
