Void Spawn - A litrpg adventure fantasy

CH162-The First Sovereign.

As Samael opened his eyes, he found himself once again in a world of utter darkness.

I'm back here again.

Yet, this time, he knew instinctively where to go.

As he walked his way across the unending abyss, he soon found himself standing before his Matrix. It glowed brighter than ever and slowly rotated as it released a hum. But that wasn't what took Samael's attention.

The lines on the Matrix's body that used to intertwine and form complex routes had now become cleaner. They became straightforward, taking sharp turns and avoiding each other. It almost looked like a maze.

It extended on the ground and as far as his eyes could see. They flowed with vigour, glowing purple rivers of Void essence.

Boss!

Samael's eyes widened as he took a turn where a figure blasted from the darkness, smashing against him as it clung to him like a monkey.

"Elyra?" Samael chuckled as he looked at the figure.

Elyra looked like a girl around his teens, maybe 15 or 16, with long, flowy purple hair and purple eyes that seemed to glow in the dark. Her skin was pale white with the same lines the Matrix seemed to possess coursing in her neck and some extending to her arm.

Yes! It's me, boss! Oh boy, I'm so excited!

Samael chuckled at the childlike demeanour of Elyra as the girl rubbed her cheeks over Samael's chest. It was like having an overgrown dog at your lap.

I did well, didn't I? Didn't I?

Samael's chuckles echoed; yes, it was really like having a dog.

"Yeah, yeah. So, what happened after the 8th round?" Samael's voice left trails in the air as he sat up.

Oh! You were knocked out, boss! But your friends got you covered. They dragged you back to that No-Nuvo? Nove?

"Nova."

Yes! Nova's house!

"How about The Matrix?" Samael asked.

It's done, boss! The paths are now aligned to their best paths. You should feel it!

Samael raised his hand, as he could indeed feel the raw power coursing through his veins. It was violent yet smooth, carrying a power output unlike anything he'd had before.

Then that means he must now proceed to the next stage.

Flux.

"Can you show me my mastery meter?"

Sure thing, boss!

With a wave of her hand, a panel manifested in Samael's face indicating the changes that occurred. Mainly, the largest thing he noticed was the fact that all three core concepts were affected.

His control meter was currently the highest, sitting at a comfortable 82%, a massive jump from the 50% he was stuck on during the trials. Following it was his purity at around 78% and quantity sitting not too far at 73%.

The reason Quantity and his Purity were nearly the same was mainly because Samael's training for his Purity meter was also heavily affecting his Quantity meter. Releasing that much Void essence in prolonged bursts forced Samael's stamina to the bottom.

Honestly, he did not expect that it would only take him 8 days to get to this point. He expected it'll take far longer to reach even 50% close to achieving his goals of getting his Subzone. Yet, it felt closer than ever.

He remembered the subzone he released on his fight with Azerel.

Dying Light.

Out of all the potential names he could have used, Samael didn't know why that one stood out and surfaced in his mind. He simply knew it was the right name.

In the end, it truly was fitting.

It devoured Azerel's light like it never even existed, drowning him in a vast sea of darkness that no amount of illumination will pierce.

He couldn't wait to get it.

Samael spent the rest of his time idling around the area as he waited for his body to begin to wake. As he did, he got to know Elyra better and her relationship with the other aspects of his soul.

Elyra would often stick close to Samael's soul manifestation. She told him it felt closest to the real him, perhaps because it was indeed a manifestation of his being.

It seems she avoided the Void the most, however strange that may seem. Based on what Samael's interpreted, Elyra was Samael's personal Void, while the other was a fragment of the last Sovereign.

Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator.

This piqued his curiosity further. If that figure was indeed a fragment of the last king, then surely he knew him best.

So he began poking further.

"Hey!" Calling out to the darkness, the Void showed up as Elyra jumped and hid behind Samael. Whispering a distressed plea in his ears.

Boss! Why are you calling him?!

"Don't worry, just hide behind me and I'll handle it." Samael's chuckle erupted as he watched the darkness stir.

What do you need?

"How about we, uh, sit first?" Samael looked around as he began to will the darkness, forming three chairs and a table in between. "After you?"

The Void stared at Samael for a moment as he followed suit, sitting in front of him with his arms crossed.

Speak now.

Samael leaned back as his lips parted. "Elyra said you were a fragment of the last Sovereign. That must mean you knew him best."

You misunderstood her.

Samael's brows furrowed as he looked over at the side where the girl was completely distracted by the swirls of darkness tugging at her hair.

"How so?"

Unlike you, there was no host.

Samael's eyes slowly widened as the realisation seeped in. "You... You were the First Sovereign...?"

The first and, for a while, the last.

Samael stared blankly at the figure for a moment. "What happened? What caused you to be fragmented?"

The Void remained silent for a while.

&+#&*& betrayed me.

Samael flinched as he winced under the grating sound that escaped the Void's lips.

I see... You are still not ready for the whole truth.

Samael sighed as he straightened his back. All he understood was that he was betrayed. But by who and why?

I know you possess many questions, but all shall be answered in time. When you are stronger than now.

"Then can you answer me this?"

The Void's face became sullen as he looked at Samael's eyes.

As they were one now, he too could sense his own thoughts.

"Why do you rage so much against the abominations?"

For a moment, Samael felt a chill on his nape as he saw a shift in the Void's blank expression for a brief second.

Because they are nothing but mindless beasts that seek to destroy that which is rightfully not theirs. I had warned them before, but it seems they mistook my absence and took advantage of it.

Standing up, the Void turned back as he began to blend with the darkness once more.

That is enough for now. Return.

Samael's eyes jolted open as he gasped for air. Looking around him, he saw himself once more back in Nova's house.

The moment he was kicked out of that place, it felt as though he was thrown over water without any warning.

Remembering the conversation they had, Samael couldn't help but feel as though there was more to it than what the Void gave him.

"You good?" Nova asked as he peeked over the door.

"Yes, I am fine," Samael responded as he slowly left the bed. "How long was I unconscious?"

"9 hours; it's dark now," Nova said. "Come, you should eat dinner with us."

Unable to refuse, Samael found himself sitting across from Silvana, Nova's wife. She had served a basic dish, a roasted chicken with a side of vegetables and soup.

Nova happily ate as they discussed things. Mostly regarding what happened in their day. However, Samael's interest was soon piqued as Silvana went on about their patrol.

"An increase in monsters over the 5th quadrant?" Nova asked as he bit at the chicken he was holding. "How much?"

"8%," Silvana said.

Nova's brows rose. "8%? That's barely anything. You're overreacting."

"No, you don't understand. We just cleared the 5th quadrant a few days prior. You know that. An increase of 8% aside from the typical count doesn't make sense when it should technically be lower," Silvana muttered. "It doesn't add up."

"Honey, you're looking at it too far," Nova held the woman's hand. "It could be just a couple of stray mutts. Did your psion readers react?"

"No..." Silvana shook her head.

"Then that just means there are no rifts anywhere here. We're safe; don't worry." Nova tightened his grip.

"Yes, perhaps I'm just being too paranoid," Silvana said as she sighed and continued eating.

Clearing his throat, Samael lured the two's attention. "Hm? Something wrong?" Nova asked.

"8%... without rifts? That's a lot for a place without portals," Samael said.

"Even you? Am I the odd one here?" Nova asked.

Taking into account all his experiences with these bastards, Samael continued. "I think Miss Silvana—"

"Just call me Silvana; you're a dear friend of my husband and a guest of mine," Silvana intervened.

Clearing his throat again, Samael resumed. "As I've been saying, 8% for a place without rifts is too much, especially since, as you've said, you've cleared the 5th quadrant recently."

Fiddling with his food, Samael put down his fork. "I think it's worth looking into. Oros is the final bastion; if anything, I think this warrants suspicion. We should check for rifts."

Nova held his chin as he fell silent. "I think I am the odd one here. It does seem odd how it increased by 8 per cent..."

"See! I told you it feels off," Silvana beamed as she leaned closer.

Nova chuckled. "Yeah, yeah, my bad." Looking at Samael, Nova pointed at him. "That being said, if there is indeed a possibility of portals appearing here, I think you should come since you're capable of closing them."

Samael's face darkened. "Trust me, it's not the portal you should fear but rather what it implies."

Nova and Silvana exchanged glances as the woman held Nova's hand. "Could there be a fell flower here? In Oros?"

Nova shook his head. "Nothing is for certain yet. We can only hope there is none."

After their dinner, Samael went on to the training grounds.

Standing in the middle of the darkness, Samael began to channel essence through his veins as Nova instructed him.

Flux was a fairly simple theory on paper. All one had to do was to locate your body's exit points that will allow for maximum flow, ejection and control of essence.

However, when done in practice is quite hard, as the only real way to locate your focal point, as Nova named it, is through countless trials and errors.

As Samael allowed his element to flow in his veins, he carefully watched as it filled every nook and cranny of his body. However, instead of ejecting it out of his skin as he did before, he tried to find a different way.

Yet, something out of his predictions came to pass as void matter exploded out of his body perfectly, ejecting in a constant and cost-efficient stream.

Looking at the results, Samael's brows furrowed.

This was certainly a first. Being able to master all on the first try.

How...?

That's because of your major evolution, "Conduit" boss!

Samael's eyes widened.

Conduit, a major evolution he got way back. It basically allowed him to channel essence and absorb it better, allowing him to conserve energy faster.

It made sense! If a conduit could absorb in the most efficient path, then it can also eject using those same channels! Meaning...

The Conduit evolution was basically his focal points.
