Chapter 313: 310: Clash of the titans (5)
With Jude in the battle, the tides were easily turned around. He and Zur moved in a blur of white and blue, heading toward five distinct creatures within the group of monsters.
"Try your best to get their attention!" Jude commanded, diving into their middle.
These ones were like giants with bestial faces. Even if they had a similar size to the fourth-class creatures, Jude could just tell that something was different about them.
Them?
Jude halted when he saw a massive creature coming toward him.
'What? Where are the others?' He looked around, spotting one creature emerging from the gloom behind, moving unnervingly slow.
There weren't any other monsters nearby. Only this one. What he mistook for multiple creatures was a single, colossal entity.
In the distance, the ocean itself seemed to shiver. Both Jude and Zur began to hear the bone-chilling sounds that made them both feel slight pain in their heads.
"What the fuck is that?" Zur sounded astonished and cautious at the same time.
The titan came into view, a shape so strange that even Jude had to pause. A ribcage wider than a ship's hull expanded and contracted with each movement, the hollow gaps in its bones glowing faintly with a pale, sickly light. Its head was elongated, jaw unhinged as though perpetually caught mid-scream.
A thin layer of skin was wrapped all around the titan's body, as if born of starvation.
Jude began to feel a vibration in the water, and he frowned. Then he realized—the sound wasn't coming from its mouth. It came from its chest.
A low vibration spilled from the titan's ribs, distorting the water like heat haze. The resonance moved through the waters, pushing Jude and Zur backwards, thrumming against their bodies. All around him, Atlantean soldiers faltered—their tridents slipping from numb fingers, their eyes wide with panic as blood seeped from their ears and noses. Some convulsed, bodies breaking under the invisible weight of the sound.
Rina wasn't any better; she clutched her head tightly, struggling against the chilling pain.
The Titan of Sound drifted closer, every pulse of its ribs sending a fresh wave through the sea. The silence of the abyss was gone; now it was filled with a dreadful hum that made the ocean itself feel hostile.
Jude steadied his trident, his glowing eyes narrowing.
"It's using sound to stun the soldiers! I'll lure it out of—!" Before Jude could finish his words, a huge shadow fell upon him.
He raised his trident in that instant, stabbing upwards.
Clank!
A massive hand was above Jude. He gritted his teeth, using both of his hands to hold the trident.
His eyes widened. Its hands were covered in skin as thick as bone. The trident could carve deep, but not cut through.
Jude wondered how he was going to beat it without putting himself and every other Atlantean in danger today.
"I'll try to stop it!" A voice echoed in the waters.
Zur boosted forward like a jet, reaching the arms. Flexible chains made out of ice rose from the bottom of the sea, wrapping around the creature.
The creature glared at him, its hollow eyes piercing into his soul. In that moment, it opened its gaping mouth again, releasing another shriek.
Zur held, raising his hands.
He summoned a hundred tridents made of ice.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Each of the tridents shot forward with jet speed, crashing into the creature.
Jude was finally released from the strength of its hand, and he looked at the arm he was using to hold the trident.
'I'm... shaking.' He frowned, gritting his teeth.
The titan's main target now was Zur, who was swimming between its attacks fluidly.
He gritted his teeth in frustration; none of his ice attacks worked on the creature. It was like its seemingly fragile and thin skin was impenetrable.
Zur frowned, choosing to go for another method of attack. He shot towards the creature, deciding to face it head-on.
Jude noticed this and went ahead too. For some reason, the creature was slow compared to most of the creatures they faced.
Coming close to the creature was even more horrifying than Jude could have ever imagined. It was even bigger than most of the skyscrapers that he had seen in his short lifetime.
The creature dwarfed everything around it, making him wonder how it was able to see them despite not having eyes.
In that moment, Zur was close to its neck. Jude's eyes widened, noticing the jaw of the creature slacking again.
"ZUR, GET OUT OF THERE!" Jude shouted, but Zur was already too close.
RUUUUU...!
The creature's wail stunned Zur, making him stop moving forward. He clutched his head, feeling pain from hearing the wails of the creature up close.
Jude stretched his hand, manipulating the waters around Zur, yanking him back.
'My suspicions are correct.' Jude frowned, gazing at the creature.
'The difference between third-class creatures and the rest of the hierarchy.'
This was a suspicion he had had for a long time now. When he achieved third class after defeating so many creatures in the sea, he gained a weird ability that might be broken and overpowered, but it might be normal.
That power was...
'Domain.'
"Zur, can you still fight?" Jude asked, looking at Zur with a serious look.
"Yes. Damn it." Zur bled through his nose, wiping it off with his arm.
"Save as many soldiers as you can. I'll deal with this thing." Jude commanded, making Zur grit his teeth, frowning at Jude.
All of a sudden, his expression hardened with determination, and he swam back to help the soldiers.
'How can I be so stupid?' Zur shook his head.
Back there, while Jude said that he should go back and handle the soldiers, he felt like he was being belittled.
He was a warrior, he would fight to his last breath. And he was the king! The king doesn't take advice from anyone.
But then he remembered that Jude wasn't just any ordinary person. He was the incarnation of the great ruler of the seas, great god of Atlantis, Poseidon.
The man who brought about the rule of a treacherous king and made Atlantis prosper. The same person who put him on the throne out of trust.
...his best friend.
Behind Zur, the titan and Jude had a standoff. This wasn't the original plan he had with the arsenal army, because he just wanted to blow off some steam after a particular incident.
'I understand now. Its domain is related to sound.' Jude thought, spinning his trident.
His blue eyes glowed in the dark waters, staring at the creature with a cold expression.
Specific frequencies of sound can mess up brain functions. So he knew that the creature was able to manipulate sounds to an extent.
Jude couldn't say for sure that the creature could do it. He had figured out the exact power the titan had, and it was not sound.
"Frequency! Your damned domain is frequency, huh?" Jude pointed at the creature.
Two reasons: its sonic attacks only affected specific people and not other sea creatures like it.
Taking offense, the titan swam towards him, releasing a bone-chilling shriek.
"Today, you will realize that this was your worst mistake." He shot towards the titan, arriving before it in the blink of an eye.
It swung its hand, pushing water and current with it.
Jude ignored the weight and clashed his trident with the hand, pushing it back.
'I haven't had to use this power since I got it.' Jude smirked.
[Your domain is ready. The sea is your domain, it, and the waters within it. Corrupted creatures can't be controlled.]
[Two skills are ready for usage.]
Jude stayed still, letting the creature come towards him. The creature wrapped its long arms around him, pushing its face towards him.
Its gaping mouth opened, its jaw slacking downwards.
In that instant, a wave washed over the ocean, bringing it to absolute stillness.
The creature froze in place as all the soldiers froze in place. Then, one by one, the lesser sea creatures died, their heads exploding into bloody pulp.
'What the hell is happening?' Zur wondered.
He was stuck in a position of swinging his trident to the creature in front. From the sides he could see Jude staying still too, looking up at the titan from far below it.
'So this is your true power, Jude. That's right, show your people how mighty you are!' Zur cheered for him inwardly.
Jude killed off all the creatures around them, looking at the creature in front of him.
"You have no one to give commands now, it's just you and me." He raised his trident, making the red runes on it glow a faint, eerie light.
The entire sea suddenly went black, blinding all the soldiers and all the creatures in it, blocking all their senses.
In that moment, every living thing in the ocean felt a piercing gaze on them.
