Chapter 312: 309. Clash of the titans (4)
The plan right now was not very simple. The army now named 'Arsenal' moved through the ruins of the next city.
They needed to send a large amount of spirit energy to bring the sea creatures in their direction.
There was no room for failure. If they failed to do that, then the creatures would trample over the camp, soiling their plans of stabilizing humanity before the next phase of the apocalypse.
And if the creatures did go to the camp, the artillery of Xylemite that was left behind along with the fox clan would be able to stall enough until they came back.
In another armoured SUV, Dian sat in front, driving the black SUV along the desolate roads. Beside him was Kami. She seemed annoyed, looking at the SUV ahead of them.
"Don't be a child, Kami," Dian said with a nonchalant expression.
"How did you even allow a dragon to follow an outsider?" Kami wondered.
As a fox who had lived for more than a century, she was well acquainted with the dragon's way of living.
And she knew just how strict they were with allowing outsiders to mate with the dragon race.
"During a show of strength, the boy defeated the dragon prince fair and square," Dian said, a smile creeping onto his face.
"What? When was this? Isn't the prince supposed to be an inherent wielder of lotus flames?" Kami asked, looking at Dian with surprise on her face.
"The lotus flames, huh?" Dian sighed.
Kami frowned, wondering if he was going to hide stuff from her. She wanted to know everything about the young man in the SUV in front of her.
"Yes, you were one of the people who were qualified to wield it."
'It has been a while since anyone talked about it.' Dian thought, looking at Kami.
"The lotus flames are one of the twelve divine fires. You having the spirit flames and the dragon king wielding destruction fire."
Dian seemed to be taken aback as he talked about a topic he was sensitive about.
Kami of course knew what it meant to him.
Back when the two of them were still young, Obsidian was the only dragon qualified to wield one of the dragon race's special fires.
"How did you lose it, exactly? We lost contact shortly before the trial," Kami asked, relaxing on her seat.
Dian shook his head, a smile creeping onto his face.
"I don't know how that would help you know the young man better."
Kami blushed, feeling embarrassed.
"This time I'm interested. Come on, talk!" She urged him, looking at the side mirror to see her expression.
"Twelve divine fires birthed the world along with all forms of elements. The dragons wielded almost every form of fire there is, except a distinct four." Dian took a breath, calming down.
"Sun, Spirit, Abyssal, and Soul."
"When the time came for me to take on the trial, I was required to go into casting to get the lotus flames. Light and fire merged, it was too hard. The terrain was too unfamiliar, I'm more in tune with working at night. So they called me a nightkin, and said I wasn't fit for the lotus flames."
Kami yawned. Listening to his story really bored her out.
"How did the boy defeat the prince if he had the lotus flames?" She asked, entering a relaxing pose.
Dian said one word, and one word only.
"Sun."
The SUV fell silent after Dian said that. Kami was staring at him with a surprised expression, but Dian didn't look at her. He just focused on where he was driving.
"Sun fire... But he's a vampire... Right?" Kami was confused.
'I knew she would understand. She's an ancient, there's no way she wouldn't know what this means.' He smiled, happy that someone else had his reaction when he found out the nature of Dexter's abilities.
"A vampire able to control their direct counter. I wonder how the vampire counts reacted to it." She chuckled, remembering the face of the vampire king in that instant.
"He was also physically stronger. Although he lacked skill, he still won in the end. Ever since then, Quan has been training indoors. This would be his first battle after a long time of training." Dian smiled.
The more he talked, the more he realized what had changed in the people around him, and also in himself.
The Arsenal army marched through the ruined cities, making quick work of the creatures blocking their path.
After more than two hours of marching, they arrived at their destination. Dexter and Rameses stood at the forefront along with Jude, who led them.
They had to let the person who was an expert in water lead the expedition. They were facing sea titans after all.
"The plan is simple. Once the creatures are drawn here, I will bring them out of the water with my power, and you all will have to fight on ice. Just as planned." Jude turned around, looking at them.
His eyes caught Kila, who was smiling at him warmly, and he couldn't help but remember her words to him earlier today.
He looked forward with a nonchalant expression. The still waters rippled as he took a step forward.
'Emotions don't matter anyways. What matters right now is power. At least for him...' Jude glanced at his brother who wielded a long black spear, crossing his arms.
Jude leapt forward, crossing over a hundred meters in distance before plunging into the waters.
He shot down into the waters, summoning a golden trident in his hands. The red runes on it shimmered to life and the trident vibrated in his arms.
'There's a plan. But first...' he frowned, 'I need to blow off some steam.'
Blue scales began to spread on his skin, creeping above his neck and into his face.
His eyes glowed a bright blue, turning slit-like, like a snake's.
...
The army of Atlantis were at a standoff with the titans. Over a dozen had fallen already and over a thousand sea creatures were slain by them.
"There's just no end to these things!" Rina complained, turning into a blue blur as she slashed at creatures lunging at her from all directions.
"He's coming!" The Kraken communicated to Zur, who was fighting a titan by himself.
The large creature was higher than a skyscraper in Atlantis, but it didn't scare him—rather, it riled him up.
"Come on!"
In that instant, a wave of white surged around the waters. The temperature reduced to a very low amount. The armour formed out of ice covered his entire body, having spikes running along the back.
Ice shards solidified around him, forming a barrier of over a hundred ice blades.
The creature was pure white, with its face having a slit from the forehead to the chin.
The slit opened, revealing a vertical mouth.
The creature let out an ear-piercing wail that could be heard all around. It seemed to disorient the monsters.
And then, one by one, Atlantean soldiers began to be killed.
Zur went at the creature. It swung its clawed hands, the fins on its legs paddling, propelling it forward.
Zur swam around the arm, swinging his trident upwards.
Shaa!
The creature's arm fell away from its body. Instantly, Zur waved his hand, commanding the countless shards of ice that he kept around him to fly towards the titan.
In that moment it opened its mouth, about to let out a wail.
The shards went around it, forming into a long, giant spear that stabbed through the mouth, shattering the skull.
[You have slain a fourth-class creature, Depths Carnivore.]
'Nah, this is looking hopeless.' Zur thought, looking around.
In that moment, a voice reverberated in his mind.
'Are you hearing me, goddamnit? He's coming!' Zur heard a voice, and he looked at the Kraken that had just bit a Depth Carnivore's head off.
In that instant, he spread his arms, looking up at an object moving towards them with considerable speed.
"Welcome the one true overlord of the ocean!" Zur shouted, making all the soldiers feel a sense of vigour.
The object landed in the middle of them all, moving so fast that the soldiers couldn't see him.
All around them, the titans fell one by one. The lesser creatures were pulverized by a single clash with this object.
All of a sudden, the person stopped, making a sonic boom separate the blood away from the battle area.
Being able to see again, the soldiers glanced at the middle of everything, seeing Jude in the middle of it all, with Zur by his side.
"Hail the ruler of the seas!"
"Sentinel warlord of the ocean!"
The army was suddenly revitalized, feeling a rush of strength.
Zur went beside Jude, standing side by side with him.
They peered into the distance, seeing a new incoming horde of creatures and titans.
"The ones in front are fourth class. I'm guessing you stopped me from holding back on using everything I got for this moment," Zur guessed, looking at Jude.
When they talked before, Jude told him one thing to do.
"Don't use all your abilities. Save your strength."
"That's what you said, and I'm guessing it's for this moment." Zur waved his trident, looking beyond the horde to see especially massive creatures.
"Yeah, we're going after the third-class ones."
