Chapter 972: Give Up
When forced into a desperate situation by the attacker, Yi Yun had no choice but to engage in the most primitive form of close combat, hoping to secure a chance at survival or escape. From the beginning, Yi Yun knew he was no match for the opponent, yet he had no choice but to confront them. If he couldn't hold his ground for a moment, escape would be impossible. With this in mind, Yi Yun punched out, his right fist directly striking the opponent's left palm.
Even though Yi Yun still appeared as a youthful figure, his thin right hand looked even frailer compared to the adult's wide left hand. Nonetheless, Yi Yun showed not a single sign of retreat.
Where the two fists and palms met, there was no glow or sound, only the silence reminiscent of the birth of all things. Time didn't stop, yet it gave the impression of a long pause. The two stood at a stalemate—perhaps the attacker had no intention of overpowering Yi Yun so quickly, engaging him in this silent battle.
There was no brilliance; the simple left hand effortlessly blocked Yi Yun's right hand enveloped in Thunder Light. Rings of purple thunderlight continuously surged from Yi Yun's arm towards his fist. After a prolonged confrontation, Yi Yun clearly felt his strength diminishing, as if the ordinary left hand was a bottomless pit, devouring his Power without any backlash.
Once his strength was entirely depleted, he would be at the enemy's mercy, Yi Yun thought. With this somber realization, his fighting spirit surged again, the violent nature of the Thunder Attribute influencing his temperament. Initially, Yi Yun, who was inexperienced and lacked control over his strength, might never have imagined risking his life, but the thought took root, growing increasingly reckless.
Reckless thoughts fuel reckless actions.
Gritting his teeth, Yi Yun let out the low growl of a beast facing danger. His right hand surged with strength, as Thunder Light expanded to envelop his entire right arm, then abruptly contracted back into his arm. Yi Yun's already swelling arm enlarged swiftly, and with a cry of pain, his right arm's muscles burst one by one, blood gushing forth like a spring, raining down like a downpour. Along with the blood came crimson Thunder Light.
The red Thunder Light shot out from Yi Yun's ruptured muscles, winding around his retracting right arm. As soon as the red Thunder Light entwined his arm, it sank into the skin, forming a tattoo-like existence, forcibly pulling together Yi Yun's torn muscles, staunching the blood. The red Thunder Light transformed into a red tattoo, seeming almost alive as it moved through Yi Yun's skin, crawling toward his fist.
The mysterious scene finally prompted a quiet "huh" from the previously silent attacker. But just as he made the sound of surprise, he felt enormous pressure emanating from Yi Yun's fist, a pressure entirely different from the previous Thunder Light—it was an eerie force that bore straight into his soul.
The attacker was taken aback; he hurriedly channeled Power through his left hand to shake off Yi Yun. Unfortunately, he was a step too slow. Just as he was about to deploy the Power, his left palm tingled with numbness. A red light flashed, followed by a deafening thunderclap. His world turned a blood-red, excluding all other colors.
It was an ear-piercing red light, a deadly red light. Before he could acclimate, the thunderous roar persisted, and the numbness in his palm suddenly turned to scorching heat, growing stronger and stronger. Alarmed, he wondered what technique Yi Yun could have possibly employed to cause such pain, but he didn't have time to ponder as he urgently channeled his Power, attempting to shake Yi Yun off.
The situation did not unfold as anticipated; Yi Yun's hand remained firmly adhered to the attacker's palm, as if sealed with strong glue. Though Yi Yun wasn't shaken off, it didn't mean the attacker's Power proved ineffective; the Power flowed from his palm directly toward Yi Yun.
As always, it bore no brilliance; the Power shot from the attacker's palm into Yi Yun's fist.
The layers of Thunder Light on Yi Yun's fist were utterly useless, unable to impede the intangible Power even slightly. As Power entered, Yi Yun felt a strange numbness in his fist, the controllable force within him suddenly revolting and scattering. Throughout his arm, the Thunder Attribute Energy rampaged through his Meridians, wreaking havoc.
Within his arm, Energy surged violently; the red Thunder Light on Yi Yun's right arm flickered, struggling to suppress the turmoil inside. Although the tattoo contained considerable Energy, in comparison to the full extent of Energy in Yi Yun's arm, it was relatively weak. Initially, it managed to restrain the turmoil slightly, but as the invasive Power progressed, more Energy spiraled out of control, causing the red Thunder Light to lose its suppressive grip.
With a puff, the wound on Yi Yun's arm, just forcibly healed, tore open once more, blood oozing out with the rupture.
An intense wave of pain came from his arm, prompting Yi Yun's low growl, his arm involuntarily shaking violently. Yet, he didn't retreat an inch—gritting his teeth, he inhaled deeply, mobilizing his inner strength to fend off the invading Power in his Meridians, while urging the red Thunder Light to counterattack the adversary's arm.
Yi Yun had resolved that since the attacker didn't intend to relent, he would fight with his life on the line, ensuring the opponent wouldn't find it easy. Yi Yun was well aware of their power disparity, so when he realized escape was out of the question, he chose to fight desperately.
The opponent couldn't comprehend Yi Yun's mindset; he became more and more astonished. Experts such as himself knew that when the power gap reached a certain point, an insurmountable chasm appeared. Yet, despite being unable to cross such a divide, the young boy in front of him chose to fight to the death. Why? The attacker couldn't fathom Yi Yun's rationale; to him, safeguarding one's life was paramount to seeking vengeance later, even if it meant falling into enemy hands.
"Give up. You can't win against me." The attacker finally spoke, his voice dry and devoid of emotion.
Yi Yun didn't answer; he had no way to respond. With the Power wreaking havoc inside, coupled with external pressure, he couldn't afford distraction for a reply. Imbuing the tattoo-like red thunderbolt, Yi Yun's face flushed with an odd red glow, sweat dripping down from his forehead.
The invading Power was gradually being pushed out by Yi Yun's strength, but it was not something that could be resolved quickly. The only choice was to endure, Yi Yun thought, knowing well he couldn't endure for long.
With a roar, Yi Yun ignored the pain in his right hand, clutching his right wrist with his left, forcing it to act. The red tattoo abruptly leapt from his skin, transforming into a thunderbolt aimed at the attacker's brow. Simultaneously, purple Thunder Light erupted from Yi Yun's fist, far more potent than before.
Yi Yun's roar was drowned out by thunder, and so was the sight of blood streaming from his eyes.
The attacker felt only blinding red light, and his left palm tingled with numbness and burning heat, sensations increasingly acute, even disrupting the Power gathered in his left hand. Amidst these rapid changes, he had no means to gauge Yi Yun's condition, unable to focus even if he wished. The red light engulfed his cold gaze.
With a strong breath, the attacker exerted his left hand, a tidal wave of Power crashing toward Yi Yun, knocking him back. As Yi Yun recoiled, the attacker tapped the ground with his left foot, launching himself backward with arrow-like speed, his right hand closing like a bird's beak to peck at the oncoming red Thunder Light.
