Chapter 971: Striking the Attack
As soon as the Thunder Light vanished, a booming sound echoed from in front of Yiyin. Where his palms had pressed earlier, the Thunder Light exploded, and the barrier originally in front of him shattered into countless tiny fragments, scattering outward.
With the barrier broken, a cool breeze immediately hit his face. Yiyin had no time to pay attention to anything else. As the barrier shattered, he pressed down hard with both hands, and his whole body shot through the opening. The sky was still pitch black, and the surrounding environment was devoid of any light. If it weren't for the dim moonlight trickling down through the thin clouds, Yiyin might have thought he had crawled from a small dark box into a larger one.
Before Yiyin could clearly ascertain his surroundings, he heard the faint sound of wind cutting through the air. He couldn't determine which direction the sound originated from, as it was extremely dense and came from all sides. Unable to block it, he could only evade. Though just a youth, Yiyin had some small experiences in preserving his life. So he took a deep breath, sank his body, and plummeted rapidly toward the ground.
With a thud, Yiyin's feet landed on the solid ground, but he didn't stop. Having grown up in chaotic fringe areas, Yiyin knew that stopping would make him a target. Thus, as soon as his feet hit the ground, he crouched low, pressed his hands forcefully against the ground, and rolled to the left instead of rushing forward.
Yiyin's movements were exceptionally fluid, without a hint of hesitation. It was instinctual action without any pause for thought. Having just escaped from the dark box, Yiyin neither knew nor had time to observe his surroundings. After a series of rolls, he leaped to a place he deemed safe. Only then did he prepare to assess the surroundings.
But as soon as he steadied himself, he heard the sound of rushing air again. This time, the sound was much louder than before, accompanied by the rustling of clothing moving swiftly.
The direction of the sound this time was extremely clear.
From the left. Instantly upon hearing the sound, Yiyin determined the direction of the incoming person. Knowing the direction naturally meant having a way to respond. However, there was no longer a possibility of evasion this time. The attacker was incredibly fast and seemed to vaguely lock onto Yiyin's momentum. If Yiyin tried to dodge, it would only invite a more intense assault.
Though Yiyin didn't understand concepts like momentum, he instinctively knew that evasion was no longer possible. Furthermore, driven by the competitive instincts of a young male and the influence of the Thunder Attribute Energy, Yiyin let out a low growl. His whole body was enveloped in purple Thunder Light, charging madly like a Thunder Beast towards the source of the sound.
A simple punch, yet it was the most effective one thrown out with Yiyin's instinctual reaction. This seemingly naive but skillful move momentarily stunned the attacker. The attacker never expected the rash young man before him to possess such a skill. Perhaps if he knew that Yiyin threw the punch impulsively, he might have been infuriated enough to spit blood.
A punch, just a punch, a simple punch brimming with violent Thunder Attribute Energy. Purple Thunder Light erupted from Yiyin's fist, roaring like a raging Thunder Dragon towards the attacker.
Though surprised at Yiyin's young age and skill, the attacker was only astonished by Yiyin's ability given his age. He snorted coldly, extended his left hand without any visible brilliance, as if it were the most ordinary hand. Yet, this seemingly ordinary hand easily pierced the purple Thunder Light and quickly held it in check, preventing it from advancing an inch. He then clenched his left hand firmly, causing the Thunder Light to shatter like glass, disintegrating into countless pieces and gradually dissipating into the air.
The Thunder Light Yiyin unleashed didn't hinder the attacker in the slightest, nor did it slow his speed. With a few quick leaps, the attacker was already in front of Yiyin. Still extending his left hand, still appearing without any gleam, utterly ordinary, yet this left hand gave an impression of condensing the air around it.
Watching the left hand reaching towards him, Yiyin inhaled sharply. He felt an unprecedented pressure from that left hand, making him faintly consider giving up resistance. Just as this thought arose, the Thunder Attribute Energy within him surged as if it had Life Force, jolting the dazed Yiyin awake. Then a brilliant Thunder Light shot from Yiyin's brow, heading directly towards the palm of that ordinary left hand, knocking Yiyin backwards.
The Thunder Light struck, but the attacker ignored it, his left hand's offensive unchanged, continuing irresistibly forward. The dazzling Thunder Light hit the left hand, but vanished like a clay ox disappearing into the sea, not even creating a ripple.
Now quickly retreating in shock, Yiyin regained composure. While flying backwards, he crossed his hands, misstepped his feet, forcibly halting himself. He knew at times like this, retreating would only give the opponent a chance to press the attack. With a sharp look in his eyes, faint Thunder Light flickering on his crossed hands, Yiyin pulled his hands to his sides. A faint purple Thunder Light linked his palms, forming a long sword.
Yiyin didn't know how to wield a sword, not even clearly knowing what a sword looked like. He merely constructed this one through imagination. As soon as the Thunder Sword appeared, Yiyin grasped its hilt with his right hand and then hurled it at the advancing left hand. The Thunder Sword separated, turning into another streak of purple Thunder Light aimed at the left hand.
The attacker still showed no intention of changing tactics, reaching towards Yiyin with that ever-victorious left hand. The Thunder Sword's light pierced into the palm, stirring up a purple glow before fading without a trace.
Yiyin hadn't expected his full-powered move to have no effect, not even to stall the attacker. His heart couldn't help but race. However, there was no time for more thoughts. The left hand destroyed the Thunder Sword and had already closed in. If Yiyin couldn't hinder that hand, capture was inevitable.
Yiyin couldn't think anymore; he let out a beastly growl, Thunder Light retracted into his body, not a hint leaked out, and his once black pupils were covered in a purple sheen. Clenching his fists, his once thin arms swelled, muscles bulging. Yiyin stomped on the ground, sending his right hand pounding towards the incoming left hand.
Since energy-based attacks were ineffective, he could only resort to the most primitive Method.
Yiyin's thoughts were straightforward, if ranged attacks failed, then he'd resort to close combat.
With a boom, Yiyin's small fist slammed into the attacker's left palm, rings of purple Thunder Light continuously flowing from Yiyin's right arm into the palm, only to melt into the captured left hand.
No explosion occurred; time seemed to freeze. Only the flickers of Thunder Light on Yiyin's right hand indicated time was still passing. Sweat formed on Yiyin's forehead but evaporated from the heat generated by his own electrical energy. His hand trembled, yet he showed no intention of retreating.
The left hand effortlessly blocked Yiyin's attack, neither advancing nor retreating, stopping firmly in place.
Yiyin let out a low growl, increasing the force in his right hand, but his muscles suddenly tore, Thunder Light pouring forth mingled with blood. A cry of pain escaped Yiyin's lips.
