Chapter 1065: Why Are You Following Me?
The night wind was bitterly cold, yet it couldn't outmatch the coldness of the human heart. The moon overhead was a ghastly pale, like a bloodless face. No matter how the night wind blew, it could never dispel the coldness of the human heart. The pale moonlight was no match for the pallor at the heart of mankind. Gazing coldly into the depths of the darkness, it seemed one could still hear a familiar call, and indistinctly, a figure seemed to be coming slowly. Yet when reaching out to touch, all that could be felt was the wind slipping through the fingers, the wind so chilling it pierced the heart.
Pulled his clothes tighter around him, hearing the sounds coming from behind, even without turning back, Yi Tian knew who had arrived, but he did not speak. Because he didn't know what to say. It had been so long since he last spoke, ever since waking up, he had remained silent, occasionally slipping outside into the night to watch the dark night sky, yet his eyes knew not where to gaze.
That terrifying face had completely healed under the influence of medication, unable to see the previous grim visage, yet the cold expression on his face left others entirely at a loss.
"It's cold outside, let's go back inside." Xiao Ruo looked at Yi Tian wrapped in black clothes, an inexplicable look of sadness on his face. Yi Tian's behavior was very strange, apart from that night's madness, after waking up he was so silent, so calm, behavior so abnormal it was unsettling.
Yi Tian did not speak, he didn't know how to, afraid he might cry as soon as he opened his mouth. The sorrow in his heart was something no one could understand. He pinned all his hopes on Yi Yun, but with Yi Yun's death, all his fantasies were utterly shattered. He knew not how to handle such a situation.
Footsteps sounded again, so light, seemingly afraid to disturb the two of them. Yet the footsteps came to a stop, and Long Feiyun stood beside Xiao Ruo, looking at Yi Tian's back.
"We know you are very sad, but the dead cannot be brought back to life, behaving like this will only leave the deceased restless." Long Feiyun didn't want to say it, but what good would it do to keep it hushed and unspoken? That would only make Yi Tian dwell on it more. So he laid it all bare.
Yi Tian had no reaction to Long Feiyun's words, he continued to stand there, allowing the night wind to pass around him, his face so cold it sent chills down one's spine.
Standing behind Yi Tian, Xiao Ruo and Long Feiyun had no idea what Yi Tian was thinking, they couldn't see his expression, nor could they fathom what his behavior meant. They felt they couldn't just let Yi Tian continue like this, no matter how important Yi Yun was, he couldn't be so self-destructive.
A long silence, unbearably oppressive, like a giant slab of ice between Yi Tian and Xiao Ruo and Long Feiyun. Suddenly, Xiao Ruo and Long Feiyun felt Yi Tian becoming strange to them. They couldn't help but ask in their hearts, was the current Yi Tian still the Yi Tian from before? Still the Yi Tian they wholeheartedly wanted to bring back?
But there was no answer, no one could give them an answer, even they themselves didn't know if such a question could have an answer.
Whether it was from exhaustion or suddenly wanting to rest, Yi Tian slowly turned around, his healed face hidden in the darkness, making it impossible to discern his features, his presence also becoming faint, eventually completely concealed. Were it not for their eyes seeing him, Xiao Ruo and Long Feiyun would have believed Yi Tian had left.
They watched Yi Tian, hoping to see his expression, but no matter how they tried, they couldn't see his face, only a pair of dark eyes flashing in the darkness before vanishing.
Gliding like a ghost passed Xiao Ruo and Long Feiyun without disturbing anything, Yi Tian indeed seemed as if he had disappeared from their sight. In their shock, they hurriedly chased after, only feeling slight relief upon seeing him again.
When Yi Tian returned to the cabin, Shu and others breathed a little sigh of relief. In the camp, it was definitely safer than at the fringes, that was unquestionable. However, William and the others who came with Shu and El felt somewhat uncomfortable, considering they had once been arch-enemies, suddenly entering the other's camp would not be met with much friendliness. Fortunately, Bai Xinyu and others understood William and his group's situation, preventing anything too excessive from happening.
But sitting on pins and needles still made William and his group uncomfortable, they just wanted to leave quickly. Seeing Yi Tian return, they were about to say something to him, only to find Yi Tian walked right past them and went to sleep. The situation remained as before, having become used to it, they didn't pay much mind, resting on their own, shortly afterward, Xiao Ruo and Long Feiyun entered as well.
"Did he come back?" As soon as the door opened, Xiao Ruo asked.
"He's resting inside." Shu pointed to Yi Tian's room, showing little change in expression. Toward Xiao Ruo and Long Feiyun, he truly didn't know what attitude to take. Supposedly, they were Yi Tian's friends, so Shu and El should not have had poor relations with them, but reality proved otherwise.
Every meeting brought inexplicable tension. Perhaps living outside for too long had ingrained a lifestyle of constant vigilance.
With Xiao Ruo and Long Feiyun receiving a definite answer, only then did they breathe a small sigh of relief and retreat from the room. Their actions too were inexplicably strange, yet no one voiced any objections.
When they left, the room, once plunged to freezing point, returned to a normal atmosphere.
"How long are we staying here?" Cook asked William with a chuckle. He truly disliked this life dependent on others, it made him feel stifled to the extreme. Yet momentarily, he couldn't think of another place they could stay. It was quite a contradictory situation.
William didn't know how to answer this question. Until now, he still couldn't figure out why he followed Shu and the others into this camp. Indeed, the entire edge becoming unstable again after Yi Tian's disturbance was an important factor, but what other reason was there? They needed a reason to seek refuge, right?
Yet there was no reason, no matter how he tried, he couldn't think of a definitive reason, so he remained silent. And consequently, the whole room fell silent.
The night passed without words.
The next day, Xiao Ruo came early to check on Yi Tian, upon opening the door, finding the entire house empty, devoid of any sign of human presence, whether it was Shu and the others, or Yi Tian, their presences had vanished without a trace. A sense of unease arose in his heart, he quickly rushed into Yi Tian's room, shocked to find it empty, the bed cold to the touch.
In just a brief moment, he understood Yi Tian and the others had left, and he felt that with Yi Tian's departure, he wouldn't return again.
"Why do you persist?" Xiao Ruo's face bore a look of distress, speaking bitterly.
Wrapped in black, walking slowly forward, Yi Tian had long noticed he was being followed, but he chose not to speak of it. Not until dawn did he stop, turning to look at the few people leisurely following him. Speechless, he observed them, eyes devoid of any inclination, as though attempting to wordlessly compel them to leave, yet they met his gaze unwavering and without intention of attack.
The large cloaks obscured the faces of the few individuals, yet this didn't prevent Yi Tian from recognizing them, although he hadn't expected them to follow.
"Why are you following me?" After days of silence, Yi Tian finally spoke, his voice hoarse and somewhat unfamiliar, as if getting used to speaking.
After voicing the question, silence fell, that same silence, leaving one unsure of how to proceed.
The cloaked figures watched Yi Tian who had spoken, contemplating how to answer his question. They watched Yi Tian, quietly observing, eyes devoid of excess emotion.
