Chapter 76 Motionless
Li Teng thought he was dead.
But he wasn't.
His entire body was in severe pain, the kind that felt as if his bones were shattered.
Especially his head—it felt as if his skull might have cracked or even had a big hole in it, which made his thinking somewhat unclear.
Li Teng struggled to open his eyes, which were plastered with blood, and looked around.
Just as he had predicted, the tail section of the plane, sure enough, had fallen into the water!
When Li Teng had been on top of the stone pillar before, he had witnessed a plane crash with his own eyes.
In that crash, the plane had broken into three parts; the cockpit and the fuselage had smashed into the hard ground, caught fire and burned, while only the tail had hit the stone pillar he was on and finally rolled down into the water.
Earlier, when Li Teng was on the plane, he recalled that scene and, treating a dead horse as if it were alive, went to sit in the tail section with Anna, betting on that less than one in ten thousand chance of survival.
If the crash he had witnessed from the top of the pillar was some kind of sign, the cockpit and fuselage exploding on impact meant there was no hope for survival; only the tail falling into the water had the slightest chance.
It seemed he had bet correctly.
Before Li Teng could finish feeling relieved, the wreckage of the tail section began to sink…
Anna, who had been next to him, along with her seat, had vanished without a trace.
Most likely, she was thrown out during the tail section's tumble down the slopes.
Chances were she had met a grim fate.
Li Teng couldn't worry about that now; his whole body was in pain, especially his head, which throbbed unbearably. While he still had some clarity of mind, he quickly unbuckled his seat belt and desperately swam out of the tail section, then pulled the inflation device on his life vest.
The life vest instantly filled with air, pulling him up from the small vortex caused by the sinking tail to the surface of the water.
The drone finally flew over and locked onto Li Teng.
…
"He's still alive! He's actually still alive!" Elsa shouted loudly.
"It's nothing short of a miracle!" Gao Fei couldn't believe his eyes.
This was a plane crash!
The plane disintegrated, falling from thousands of meters high!
This guy actually survived!
"Thank goodness!" Daisy's eyes reddened.
"And Anna?" Elsa asked again.
"Most likely gone; her footage hasn't shown up." Gao Fei had already searched around.
"Poor thing, she made it all this way but couldn't hold out until the end," Elsa sighed.
"Out of seven deaths, there's one life; isn't there a rule about that?" Gao Fei guessed.
…
"Damn it all!" Feng Dahai, at this moment, didn't know what else to say to express his feelings.
"I... Damn! It's so fake! Too fake! Surviving that? Damn! I'm impressed! This scumbag is like a nightmare!" Huang Xun's eyes bulged in disbelief.
"Good people don't live long, troublemakers last for a thousand years! It's always the troublemakers who can't be killed; there's nothing more to say," Pretty Boy Du Qing also shook his head repeatedly.
…
"Anna, that roast chicken..."
Li Teng sighed.
Owing someone a favor made one's conscience uneasy!
He felt as though his conscience had long been eaten by Huang Xun.
After lying on the surface of the water for a while and regaining some strength, Li Teng made an effort to swim towards the lakeshore.
Despite the pain throughout his body, his limbs were still sensitive and under his control.
As the shore wasn't far away, after swimming for seven or eight minutes, Li Teng reached the shallows, then stood up, walked onto the lake bank, and, staggering into the woods, searched for the traces of where the tail wreckage had smashed down.
While walking, Li Teng's leg began to hurt intensely. Although it wasn't broken, there might have been a fracture or a severe muscle contusion, which significantly hindered his mobility.
The pain was less noticeable in the water, but once he was walking upright on shore, it became difficult.
Most people would have been unable to walk under such conditions, but Li Teng gritted his teeth and continued searching forward.
As he walked, a sudden excruciating pain in his thigh struck, and Li Teng screamed in agony, collapsing to the ground.
After a while, Li Teng got up and, using his hands and feet, climbed up the slope.
Finally, in the fork of a large tree, he found Anna still attached to her seat.
Her face and body were covered in blood, her head hanging down without movement.
Gasping for breath, Li Teng wiped the blood from his own eyes, rested for a moment, and then climbed up the tree trunk.
Reaching the tree fork, Li Teng struggled to balance himself and unfastened Anna from the seat.
Then, holding her, he slowly slid down the trunk of the large tree.
In the end, he ran out of strength and, three or four meters above the ground, they both fell from the trunk.
Fortunately, the thick layer of dead branches and leaves on the ground provided some cushioning.
After screaming in pain for a while, Li Teng forced himself to get up and began examining Anna's injuries.
One arm was broken, her head was covered in blood—likely indicating a skull injury.
A thick tree branch was forcefully inserted into her stomach, protruding from the side of her waist.
With injuries like these...
Li Teng checked Anna's breathing with his hand.
There was no breath left.
Clenching his jaw, Li Teng sat up and started compressing Anna's chest with his hands, occasionally opening her mouth to breathe air into it, performing CPR.
Two minutes later, Li Teng slapped Anna's face hard.
"Wake up! If you don't, that favor involving roasted chicken will go to waste!"
Ana showed no response.
Li Teng had no choice but to continue the chest compressions and artificial respiration.
"Wake up! If you don't, I will take advantage of the warmth...", Li Teng threatened Anna a few times.
Anna still showed no response.
...
"It's almost been five minutes; there's no hope left," Gao Fei said as he watched the screen and counted the time.
"He did his best, with such severe injuries, and he still went to save her even though he could barely walk. He has reached his limit," Elsa sighed.
"Yes, Anna should no longer blame him," Gao Fei also sighed.
"This young man is truly a person of great loyalty and affection," Daisy said, her eyes glued to the screen where Li Teng was.
...
"Damn it all! Nothing more to say, the last person I hoped would die didn't die! Damn it! Absolutely hacked!" Feng Dahai was furious. What he had hoped for was for both Li Teng and Anna to be done for. If only one of them was to bite the dust, he would have preferred it to be Li Teng, not Anna.
"A jerk is a jerk, still thinking about taking advantage of the heat at a time like this," Huang Xun was also visibly displeased.
"You said to take advantage of the heat, then do it, don't just talk the talk!" Pretty Boy Du Qing stared intently at the screen.
...
A large white medical helicopter adorned with a red cross landed in a clearing below the hillside.
Several staff members carrying two stretchers climbed up the slope.
"The show's over, come with us!" a staff member urged Li Teng.
"Just a few more minutes," Li Teng, still unwilling to give up, continued CPR on Anna.
"There are no vital signs left, let's go!" the staff member was becoming impatient.
"Just a little longer, I'll be right there," Li Teng said, increasing the pressure of his compressions, breaking several of Anna's ribs in the process.
