Trembling At A High Altitude

Chapter 75 The Giant Tree That's Dozens of Meters Tall

The flight attendant also lurched back into the cabin, forcing a smile on her face, and asked everyone to sit in their seats, fasten their seat belts, bow their heads, wrap their hands around their heads, and prevented Li Teng from moving around in the cabin.

Li Teng's row of three seats, where he and Anna had been sitting, had slid significantly, suddenly squeezing towards the couple who had not followed Li Teng to the tail of the plane! The couple instantly let out a piercing scream.

It wasn't the seats that were sliding, but the floor of the cabin that was cracking!

Just then, two huge cracks appeared between the cabin and the cockpit, and between the cabin and the tail of the plane. The ferocious wind rushed into the once-warm cabin in an instant, the whooshing sound drowning out the passengers' terrified screams.

Li Teng became even more certain of his earlier judgment and yelled, pushing aside the obstructing flight attendant and quickly rushing to the tail of the plane with Anna.

Several passengers sitting at the edge of the crack were thrown out of the plane's body through the two cracks, along with their seats. Their figures and screams quickly disappeared outside the cabin.

Li Teng, holding Anna with one hand and grabbing the seat next to the aisle with the other, struggled to steady himself on the remaining part of the tail that had not completely disintegrated from the plane's body. He let Anna and himself sit in the last row of seats next to the aisle at the tail, pulled out life jackets, put them on, and fastened his seat belt.

"Don't inflate it now," Li Teng reminded Anna, who had put on her life jacket.

"I know," Anna nodded, understanding such common sense. The question was, could sitting in the tail section save them from a plane crash?

The hope really was slim!

...

"Why is he putting on a life jacket?" Elsa, watching the live broadcast, asked Gao Fei beside her.

"A life jacket would be useful if the plane falls into water," Gao Fei thought for a moment before answering Elsa.

"From such a high altitude, isn't crashing into water just the same as hitting solid ground?" Elsa shook her head.

"Indeed, there's not much difference. The chances of a plane falling into water are slim, and falling from high altitude onto the water's surface is equally lethal. He has no other choice, it's like trying to treat a dead horse as if it were alive," Gao Fei sighed.

"It's too cruel. Even someone as tough as him can't survive, and we would only be waiting for death! This place is too dangerous! I want to go home…" Daisy said with a face filled with terror.

...

"Still struggling, thinking that sitting in the tail means you won't die? Wishful thinking!" Feng Dahai spoke.

"I suddenly feel sorry for them, they haven't given up despite everything, but I guess no matter how much they struggle it's useless. Especially Anna, she is completely dragged down by that scumbag," Huang Xun said with a look of sympathy.

"It's all fate," said Pretty Boy Du Qing, also feeling somewhat emotional.

Although they both were annoyed with Li Teng, seeing the scene of Li Teng's impending death, they felt a pang of sorrow for a fellow actor from the Film and Television City.

...

Li Teng leaned forward slightly, peering down from the crack in front of the fuselage.

Alas, he couldn't see any lakes or the like below; instead, he saw several towering mountains reaching into the clouds.

If his judgment was wrong, they were definitely going to die!

But what else could be done?

Li Teng and Anna had just sat down in the two seats next to the aisle in the rear when the plane's tail completely detached from the fuselage, causing a severe tilt. A flight attendant, who had previously hidden in the galley of the tail, screamed as she fell from behind the curtain, and Anna quickly stretched out her hand to grab her arm.

Li Teng also hastily reached out to hold the flight attendant's thigh.

The two looked at each other without a word.

Anna saw fear in Li Teng's face.

The carefree guy finally knew fear.

Fear was also plainly written on Anna's own face.

After a violent shake, a cart initially locked in the tail galley barreled out from behind the curtain, crashing into the flight attendant in the aisle and injuring the arms of Li Teng and Anna, who were each holding onto the flight attendant.

Caught off guard, their arms couldn't fend off the tremendous force of the service cart, and they could only watch helplessly as the flight attendant spun out of the wreckage at the tail of the plane, propelled by the cart.

Anna moaned in pain, and it was clear that while the service cart had hurled the flight attendant away, it also struck her arm hard, breaking the bone in her forearm.

Li Teng's wrist was in severe pain, but it didn't seem to be broken, his situation was slightly better than Anna's.

Now, there was nothing they could do.

All they could do was pray in their hearts.

Would a miracle happen?

The tailpiece carrying Li Teng and Anna was plummeting while rushing forward with high speed due to inertia.

Time seemed to move slowly, yet also quickly.

'Bang!'

A violent collision.

The taste of salt and iron.

The fractured tail of the plane slammed into the hard rocks protruding from the top of a mountain peak, then veered off its original path.

Anna screamed in agony, and as Li Teng turned to look at her, he saw her face covered in blood. The cabin wall next to her had been completely destroyed in the collision, and half of her seat was hanging in the air, shaking constantly, as if it could separate from the wreckage any time.

After striking the mountain, the tailpiece was flung onto the sloping hillside below.

The angle of descent just matched the slope of the hill.

Large trees, dozens of meters tall, grew on the hillside.

These trees greatly reduced the massive impact as the tailpiece fell, making it bounce and tumble down the slope like a broken iron ball.

Below was a not-too-large lake.

'Bang!' Another dull thud.

Water splashed everywhere.

The short tens of seconds felt as long as ten thousand years.

...

"How's the situation? Did you get a clear look?" Elsa asked Gao Fei.

"It happened too fast, even the drone couldn't keep up," Gao Fei shook his head, his gaze constantly sweeping across several large screens in front of him, trying to get a clear view of the crash site from multiple angles.

From two of the screens, one could see the nose and the fuselage had already smashed into the hard ground, bursting into fierce flames, with black smoke billowing into the sky.

Only the tail had crashed into the small lake, where the drone was now flying over the surface, searching and locating.

...

"Damn it! They must be dead, right? I don't believe they could survive that!" Feng Dahai was also closely watching the live feed on the screen.

If Li Teng and Anna hadn't died, his death would have been in vain, leaving him feeling incredibly unfair.

"Yeah, it would be too fake if they didn't die from that!" Huang Xun, while sympathetic, fully supported the idea that Li Teng should be dead on the issue of whether he should survive the fall.

"Don't you guys find this a bit strange? If they hadn't gone to the tail but stayed in the fuselage, or run to the nose, they would be dead for sure, but they chose the tail…" The Pretty Boy, Du Qing, broached the subject with the two men.

"That's not surprising, right? In a plane crash, psychologically speaking, the tail seems safer, as most of the time, it's the nose that hits the ground first," Huang Xun argued a few points with Du Qing.

"I was just saying," Du Qing obviously had no interest in arguing with Huang Xun; his main concern was whether Li Teng was dead or not.
