Trembling At A High Altitude

Chapter 52 Lurking War Wolf

"Coming over?" A voice sounded from behind.

Turning around, he saw the Sunglasses Woman, who had just come out of the public women's restroom on the side of the street. She evaluated Li Teng's hospital attire, guessing that he might have gone through some kind of unpleasant experience, but she did not ask him about it.

"You're here? Good timing, I wanted to tell you that I've figured out the signal you were sending me. However, under our current circumstances, it's not quite the right time to speak of love. I appreciate your good intentions, but I can't take responsibility for your feelings, so..." Li Teng said to the Sunglasses Woman with utmost seriousness.

He had understood that the three knocks from the Sunglasses Woman indicated that the next performance would be in three days. But since she had said she knew the answer and he shouldn't confirm with her, he chose not to spell it out.

The lips of the Sunglasses Woman shaped the word "Scram," but upon hearing footsteps from the men's restroom, she retracted the word and instead grabbed Li Teng's arms and started shaking them.

"Are you sure you won't reconsider? From the first moment I saw you, I was deeply enchanted by you – your wisdom, your bravery, your strength, your..."

Glasses Man came out of the men's restroom and was quite startled to see this.

The Sunglasses Woman hurriedly let go of Li Teng as if she'd been caught in a scandal.

"I'm just passing by, carry on, carry on, hehe, I didn't see anything," said Glasses Man with a weird laugh as he quickly walked away.

After Glasses Man left, the Sunglasses Woman leaned against the wall and began to retch.

"Are you pregnant?" Li Teng asked with concern.

"No, it's because of what I just said to you," the Sunglasses Woman shook her head.

...

Returning to the table, the original seven actors of the troupe had all arrived.

Not long after Li Teng had taken his seat, the eighth actor, a new addition to the troupe, also came over.

He was a man in his thirties.

By the look on his face, he was no newcomer.

"Is that... Brother Hai?" Pretty Boy stood up and respectfully confirmed with the middle-aged man coming over.

"Are you Du?" the middle-aged man also sought confirmation from Pretty Boy.

"Yes, yes, yes! Brother Hai, hello, I am Du Qing." Pretty Boy shook the man's hand vigorously and then invited the middle-aged man to sit down next to him.

The middle-aged man's name was Feng Dahai, an actor of the follower level in the Silver Wolf Guild.

After Guo's mother was killed by Li Teng, the Silver Wolf Guild automatically issued a Bounty Order on Li Teng.

The reward was 100 points.

With Pretty Boy Du's help in pinpointing Li Teng's location, members of the Silver Wolf Guild could easily lock onto the troupe where Li Teng was.

The 100 points of bounty were mainly issued to the guild's follower-level and lower-level actors.

On the second refresh of the troupe listings, Feng Dahai landed in the same troupe as Pretty Boy Du.

After a discussion over their terminal devices in the guild channel, Feng Dahai decided to accept the assassination mission. He would join the troupe where Li Teng was and find a suitable role to hunt down Li Teng following the plot and try to earn the extra 100 points.

"Which one of you is Li Teng?" After sitting down, Feng Dahai looked around at everyone and quickly fixed his gaze on Li Teng.

Li Teng's information was on the Bounty Order, name, age, photo, and the like. After seeing the photo and then the person, it was easy to recognize him.

Hearing the conversation between Du and Feng Dahai and then being looked at by Feng Dahai, Li Teng could guess with his heels that this man's purpose was to hunt him down.

The cliched and melodramatic situations from web novels had fallen on his head.

Stirring up a hornet's nest, kill one and another comes along.

Last time's shoot used up all the good luck, and now this shoot is about to bring a heap of misfortune.

First, he nearly died on top of the stone pillar; after getting over that, he was extorted and vivisected by that doctor.

Now it's even better, people from the Silver Wolf Guild have come to kill him too, clearly determined not to stop until he's dead.

"Young man, don't be afraid, I'm not that vicious; I'm a civilized person." Seeing that Li Teng was too scared to even speak after being questioned by him, Feng Dahai chuckled.

Feng Dahai didn't take Li Teng too seriously.

He had watched the video of the scene where Guo's mother died at Li Teng's hands, where Guo's mother mistook a "ghost sign" for an actual draw, only to be 'playing ghost,' and was eventually killed by the new actor Li Teng, who was 'a real ghost' but didn't have the points to exchange for ghostly powers.

You can't say Li Teng is very strong; you can only say that Guo's mother had rotten luck and was also stupid.

"Are you guys done? So many veteran actors bullying a new extra, is that fun?" Gao Fei questioned Feng Dahai.

"This isn't bullying, it's hunting. He's not some new extra in my eyes, just worth 100 points. Kid, stay cool, don't be so hot-headed, anger hurts the liver," Feng Dahai replied to Gao Fei with a smile.

The Feng Dahai who came this time didn't talk in the arrogant style of the Guo family mother and son from before, but such people are harder to deal with, likely of the very insidious type.

...

Once everyone had arrived, the director came to the table.

"This performance is a confrontational one."

"When the last scene finished shooting, you all learned some information about confrontational performances."

"Each confronting performance script is different."

"But the rules are more or less the same."

"The performing sides belong to two different camps, and the final point rewards are akin to a bet."

"The script for this confrontational performance is called 'Lurking War Wolf.'

"During the War of Resistance against Japan, Underground Workers at the Red Star News Agency were doing secret work, trying to awaken the people and unite them against the Japanese, making great sacrifices."

"But a traitor emerged within the Red Star News Agency, giving away information about the underground workers to the enemy's special agents, and a traitor leader with his lackey, under the command of the invaders, came to the agency to arrest its employees and tortured them severely, trying to find the Underground Workers among them and kill them."

After acting in several scenes, the director didn't need to make things too clear, everyone had a pretty clear idea.

According to the rules of the previous two scenes, out of the eight actors, one must 'get a meal box' for the shooting to be considered complete, and the one 'getting the meal box' would certainly be the Underground Worker.

And involuntarily, everyone's eyes turned to Li Teng.

If someone on the spot needed to play the role of an Underground Worker, this handsome guy with thick eyebrows and big eyes was the most suitable candidate.

He couldn't be that unlucky, could he?

Li Teng, too, was furrowing his brow.

After hearing the director describe the plot, he too had a feeling that this brave Underground Worker role seemed tailor-made for him.

Sure enough, he was about to run into bad luck again.

"The characters in this scene include six editors from the Red Star News Agency, one traitor leader, and one lackey. Additionally, among the six editors, there is a traitor who is an informant to the traitor leader."

"So, the scene is divided into two camps, one is the news agency camp composed of five editors, and the other is the traitor camp composed of the traitor leader and the two lackeys," said the director, pausing for a moment, and someone brought over a lot-drawing tube.
