Chapter 51: Nightmare
After signing his name, Li Teng realized that his nightmare had just begun.
Doctors summoned several healthcare workers who awkwardly lifted Li Teng onto the operating table in the next room.
They then used metal buckles to lock his wrists, ankles, and neck in place.
Li Teng felt that something was seriously wrong.
The therapeutic effects of bread, biscuits, and drinks were limited, and for Li Teng who was suffering from severe bacterial infection and organ failure, they were hardly effective. Facing many burly healthcare workers, the extremely weak Li Teng had no strength to resist.
He could only protest verbally as they locked him down on the operating table.
The doctor wheeled over a medical cart stacked with various rusty surgical tools.
"Shouldn't I be going into a medical pod?" Li Teng asked the doctor.
"Your illness is so severe that I need to perform a surgery on you first, and then send you to the medical pod." The doctor explained to Li Teng and then picked up a scalpel.
"Can a surgery be performed in this environment? And have those surgical tools been sterilized?" Li Teng felt as if he had been delivered into a den of thieves. Ever since being collected as a corpse by a helicopter from the rocky columns, the extremely weak Li Teng had no way to control his own destiny and was completely at the mercy of others.
"It doesn't matter; you'll go into the medical pod eventually, it will eliminate all the bacteria and viruses in your body," the doctor said as he put down the scalpel and drew a 'Y' shape on Li Teng's abdomen.
"In that case, there's no need for the surgery. Just put me directly into the medical pod," Li Teng tried to negotiate with the doctor.
"How could that be? Sending you to the medical pod means your credits would all pay for the Film and Television City and have nothing to do with me. But if I perform the surgery, you have to pay me a lot of credits. Why would I give up such an opportunity to earn credits?"
As he spoke, the doctor put down the pen, picked up the rusty scalpel again, and started to cut along the line he had drawn on Li Teng's abdomen.
Li Teng was left only with pitiful screams.
"Endure it a bit; I used to be a vet and haven't operated on people before. It's rare to practice on human bodies like this."
"Your stomach feels quite nice to the touch…"
"Don't vomit, be careful not to block your trachea."
"I'm looking for the liver…"
"Tsk tsk, it's about to necrotize, it's already turned black."
"…"
"Doctor, how much longer?"
"It's very early yet, just beginning, don't rush."
"…"
The surgery lasted for over two hours.
To prevent any accidental death caused by Li Teng fainting during the procedure, the doctor injected him several times with an unknown drug, keeping Li Teng fully conscious throughout.
When the doctor had made a complete mess inside Li Teng's body, bringing him close to the brink of death, and he had finally grown weary himself, he then called the healthcare workers to throw Li Teng's mutilated body, along with various dissected parts, into a medical pod.
...
Several minutes later, the lid of the medical pod opened.
Li Teng sat up from the mysterious solid-liquid mixture.
He quickly examined his body, especially the cut areas.
They were perfectly restored.
"Here is a set of patient's clothing for you," the doctor came over, kindly handing a neatly folded set of patient's clothes to Li Teng.
"Is it free?" Li Teng confirmed with the doctor.
"It's included in the treatment cost. You can throw it away if you don't want it, but it won't reduce the bill," the doctor replied to Li Teng.
"Okay, thank you." Li Teng put on the clothes and then stared at the doctor for a long time.
"Remembering my face is useless; you'll soon forget your thoughts of revenge. Film and Television City absolutely forbids medical disturbances. You can't kill me, and if you attack me, you'll be turned into a wax figure. Besides, you'll have many reasons to beg me in the future," the doctor seemed to have already read Li Teng's mind.
It's imaginable that Li Teng wasn't the first extra to suffer at his hands.
"No, I am just thankful that you saved my life and kept me intact," Li Teng smiled.
Hatred is kept in the heart; there is no need to show it.
Especially when you're at your weakest.
"This is the bill; you've already signed it, so you need not sign again." The doctor handed Li Teng the copy of the blank form he had signed earlier.
It was now filled with various charges.
Including the patient's clothing he gave to Li Teng, worth 20 credits.
The total treatment cost was somewhat outrageous.
The use of the medical pod was over three hundred, and the rest were various additional charges imposed by the doctor.
"Can it be a bit less? Please consider that I'm new!" Li Teng still tried to negotiate with the doctor.
"You've already signed! Stop making a scene, or I'll call security!" the doctor said with an impatient expression.
Li Teng was furious... Could he have not signed at that time?
From now on, Li Teng could only take half of all his performance fees.
The remaining half would go towards the medical bills he owed!
Could he pay it all off within this year?
"Being kidnapped to the top of a stone pillar, I never thought I'd come back alive."
"This place is Hell."
"I'm the fish on the chopping board."
"Enduring various kinds of Purgatory-like torture is normal."
"At least I'm still alive now."
"To live is to hope."
"I must take my revenge!"
"As long as I'm not dead, you're definitely going to die!"
"Everything you've done to me, I will return it double!"
"Only by being alive can we talk about revenge. I cannot let anger and hatred cloud my judgment."
"Endure."
Li Teng convinced himself and left the hospital gate with a smile.
There was a signpost on the street.
The shops on the street had countdowns.
There was only half an hour left before shooting began.
Not knowing how far the shooting location was, Li Teng quickened his pace and ran towards the gathering point.
After treatment in the Medical Pod, he felt light and was in perfect physical condition.
The past few days felt like a distant nightmare.
Now, Li Teng could only try not to let this nightmare leave a psychological shadow on him.
He could only try to interpret the past few days' experiences positively.
For instance... his tolerance for extreme pain had improved by several levels at least.
He believed his willpower had also become much stronger.
And his psychological adjustment ability.
He could quickly step out of various negative emotions and fully prepare himself for new, more brutal challenges.
"Heaven tasks those who are destined for greatness with hardship to temper their minds and bodies, to hunger their skin, to empty their beings, and to disturb their actions, so that they may nurture their hearts and endure what they previously could not."
After running swiftly for over ten minutes, Li Teng finally saw the familiar streetscape.
The coffee shop.
Several people were already seated at the coffee table.
There seemed to be a few empty plates on the table.
He guessed that even if there were snacks, they must have already been eaten by them.
He was going to be hungry this time.
Now, Li Teng deeply suspected something.
It was that his luck fluctuated much more than the average person's.
The first round was extremely unlucky, encountering his enemy Guo Zhipeng.
And being hit by his car.
The second round was extremely lucky, getting to eat three trays of snacks for free, and also obtaining the only Immortality Card 'You are ghost,' winning a round effortlessly.
Now in the third round, his luck had turned extremely bad again.
Not to mention nearly dying on the stone pillar before coming here, he was also extorted and tortured to near death by a psychotic doctor.
Thus, he must be careful in this performance; otherwise, he might get killed.
If he got killed, all the suffering he had endured before would have been in vain, which would be too unreasonable.
And then he wouldn't have the chance for revenge.
