Chapter 205: Testing the Strength!
The moment she entered, her eyes widened in awe.
The academy grounds stretched endlessly before her, towering buildings of marble and mana-infused glass, vast training fields where students sparred with glowing weapons, and gardens filled with vibrant flowers that pulsed faintly with energy.
Everywhere she looked, students moved with purpose.
Some practiced sword forms, their blades swinging through the air. Others chanted spells, weaving dazzling patterns of light and flame.
"My gods…" Myra murmured under her breath. "It's… beautiful."
Her gaze lingered on a group of first-year students practicing their sword techniques under the supervision of an instructor.
Their movements were sharp and disciplined.
For a fleeting moment, she imagined herself teaching here, passing on her own skills, learning from the humans she once feared.
(I hope he is here too) she thought.
The guard guided her across a stone bridge and through an arched hallway filled with paintings of legendary warriors and scholars.
At the end of the hall stood the principal's office.
The guard knocked once.
Guard 1, "Principal, the applicant has arrived."
"Send her in." The principal replied.
The guard pushed the door open and gestured for Myra to enter.
She stepped inside and her heart pound in her chest as the door closed behind her.
The principal sat behind a desk stacked with parchment and glowing crystals.
His eyes scanned Myra with quiet curiosity.
"You wish to apply as a teacher?", Principal Aldric said.
Myra straightened her posture and met the principal's gaze without hesitation.
"Yes, Sir. My name is Myra. I may not have formal documents, but I have the skill and determination to guide students. If you allow me, I can prove my worth."
The principal studied her for a long moment, tapping a quill lightly against the desk.
"Very well, Myra. Arcadia values skill and heart as much as credentials. Let's see if you truly have what it takes."
Principal Aldric studied her carefully. (She looks far too young to apply as a teacher), he thought.
(Barely older than the students… but those eyes… there's something fierce in them.)
He cleared his throat.
"Miss Myra, before we can consider your application, there's one thing we must confirm."
"What is it?" Myra asked.
"Your strength," Aldric replied. He reached beneath his desk and carefully placed a large crystal ball on the polished surface.
It was perfectly smooth, glowing faintly with an inner silver mist.
The guard exchanged curious glances. They had seen this object many times.
The Arcane Resonance Crystal—an ancient tool that measured a person's magical and physical power. Its colors revealed a person's rank:
D-rank – a faint glow
C-rank – a strong blue light
B-rank – a vibrating pulse
A-rank – a golden flare
S-rank – power so great it shook the very ground
"This," Aldric explained, resting his hand briefly on the orb, "is the Crystal of Evaluation. It reacts to the mana and strength of the one who touches it. All teachers of Arcadia Academy must be at least B-rank to ensure the safety of our students. Place your hand on it, and let us see where you stand."
Myra stepped forward without hesitation.
(This is it), she thought.
(If I fail here, I can't get close to the academy… or to the answers I need about Father.)
She placed her slender hand against the cool surface of the crystal.
For a few seconds, nothing happened.
Myra's face began to sweat against the smooth glass.
Aldric raised an eyebrow.
(No reaction?) he thought.
(Perhaps she's just a brave young girl with no real power.)
One of the guards shifted awkwardly.
"Principal," he whispered, "maybe she's—"
"Wait," Aldric interrupted, holding up a hand.
Myra clenched her jaw. "No… I can't fail now".
She closed her eyes and focused, drawing the deep well of energy from within her core. Mana flowed through her veins like liquid fire.
She pressed her hand against the crystal once more.
At first, there was a faint ting—like the sound of distant chimes.
Then, slowly, a soft glow began to spread inside the orb.
The guards straightened.
The crystal emitted a dim light—the sign of a D-rank.
But Myra didn't stop. She steadied her breathing, letting more of her inner strength flow outward.
The glow intensified, deepening into a rich blue hue—the mark of C-rank. The air grew warmer as the blue light pulsed with steady rhythm.
Aldric leaned forward slightly. Impressive… (She's stronger than most ordinary teachers)
The crystal suddenly vibrated.
The blue light deepened until it became a blinding azure, swirling like a storm. Lines of light danced across the surface like lightning.
"B-rank…" whispered the guards, eyes widening.
Myra's hair fluttered as if caught in an invisible breeze.
The crystal began to pulse violently, sending small tremors across the desk.
The blue light melted into a radiant golden flare, bright enough that the guards instinctively shielded their eyes.
"By the gods…" the other guard breathed. "That's A-rank!"
Principal Aldric's eyes widened in shock.
(A-rank? At her age?) His years of composure almost faltered. A golden glow like that was rare even among senior professors.
He opened his mouth to speak.
"Wel—"
But before he could finish, the crystal flared again, its golden brilliance suddenly overtaken by a blinding white light threaded.
BOOM!
The entire room shook violently. The wooden floorboards groaned as the desk rattled. The shelves trembled, and a few books tumbled to the floor with heavy thuds.
The guards staggered backward in disbelief.
"This can't be…" the guard whispered.
The crystal now glowed with an intensity that was neither gold nor pure white. It was something beyond A-rank, a shimmering light caught between S and A—a level few ever reached.
Principal Aldric felt a bead of sweat roll down his forehead.
His heart pounded. (Is she… is she really…?)
(This pressure… it's as strong as mine… maybe stronger.)
The crystal pulsed one last time, releasing a shockwave of energy that rippled through the room before slowly dimming back to a faint glow.
Myra finally lifted her hand. She had not flinched once during the entire display.
Principal Aldric exhaled slowly, trying to regain his composure.
"…Remarkable," he finally said.
"I have not seen a resonance like that in many years. Not even some of our S-rank professors could produce such a response."
"Is she… human?" the guard said.
"No, I am not human.. " Myra said.
