Transmigrated into the Most Hated Scum. My Wives are Plentiful!

Chapter 76: The Start of a New Life

They had just seated when a hand crept into the carriage to grab Koul. Kanstiv immediately moved to act, but when he saw the person's face, he stopped.

Instead, he dashed out the other side as quickly as he could and caught Koul just before he crashed into a tree.

"Hmm? Is this the seclusion you talked about returning to?"

Iske stood tall before them both. His hair fluttered softly in the cool night breeze.

"Ugh…." Koul groaned grumpily.

Kanstiv helped Koul to his feet, and dusted his clothes.

"Brother, violence is all you amount to, isn't it?" He asked with frustration.

Iske was really about to slam him into a tree if Kanstiv hadn't acted fast enough, so Koul was angered.

"And you? Lying is all you know to do best, isn't it?" Iske fired back.

"Tsk! Just go back inside. You lost to me in the duel, so go start working," Koul said as he walked back to the carriage.

"So? Where are you headed?" Iske asked.

"Where else but the academy?"

Koul replied casually. He mounted the carriage and took his seat.

"The academy? You? Why?"

Iske's surprise was evident.

"Had enough fun here, so you're going to the capital to cause some trouble now?"

"I am not! Okay?!!" Koul yelled, irritated and frustrated.

"I'm simply going to enroll there as a student, grow stronger and become better!"

Silence followed next. Iske and Kanstiv just kept mute as they stared at Koul.

"…."

"…"

After some moments, Iske bursted out laughing.

He couldn't believe his ears.

His little brother was going to the academy to actually learn? He hadn't heard this good a joke in so long.

This further irritated Koul who clicked his tongue in annoyance.

When both Kanstiv and Koul said nothing and simply watched him laugh, Iske's laughter ceased.

He examined their serious faces, realizing they were serious.

"Seriously?" He blinked repeatedly.

"But how? They won't even allow you pass the gates. I'm sure once they get the word you're in the capital, they'll be alert immediately."

"Do not worry about that brother. I have that handled already. Just return and make sure to keep everyone safe in the palace."

Iske wanted to curse and punch Koul for his impolite way of speaking, but he decided to let it slide.

He exhaled aloud and walked over to Koul. When he raised his hand, Koul moved back, thinking he would get hit.

But Iske simply ruffled his hair.

"Make sure not to die," he said with a smile.

A genuine smile that he had never shown Koul before.

Koul was touched and was about to reply sensitively. But Iske spoke again and ruined the atmosphere.

"Don't die. Cause more trouble because that's the only thing you're good at."

He chuckled softly, then left.

Kanstiv went back inside the carriage and took his seat opposite Koul.

"Please start," Koul said with a sigh.

"The Veltaur family are the ones adopting you. A well known family in the capital."

"I already know the name. How did you find them?"

"I had to go through several orphanages to check the list of families that have been looking to adopt a child. I chose this one because they stood out to me."

"I see. Continue."

"They have a son. Or at least, they used to. You might or might not know this, but being a talented has more to it."

Hmm? It's more complicated than I think it is?

"Families, especially parents, play a significant role in awakening. The strength of a child's awakening often reflects the power of their lineage. When parents are strong Awakeners, the chances of their offspring awakening with great ability are much higher."

"Hmm? Then, if my siblings are all talented with great abilities, why aren't I?" Koul asked.

But a possibility soon built up in his mind. One he had never even thought of.

"Don't tell me," he whispered. "Are my parents different from my siblings'?"

Kanstiv stared baffled at Koul.

How could Koul not know the answer to this question? Did he hit his head somewhere?

Seeing his expression, cold sweat beaded Koul's face.

I'm just glad I have more than half my freedom with me, else the judges would've slapped me a penalty by now.

"Yes," Kanstiv responded. "You all share the same father, but not the same mother."

I never even thought of the possibility.

"Is it so for all of us?"

"No. Only your mother is different."

Oh? So all three of them are from the same mother, and only I come from a different one?

No wonder they hate me, tsk! tsk!

Though I'm sure they'd still hate me regardless of this.

"So? Where's my mother?"

"She's dead," Kanstiv blurted.

"She was a commoner that the late king didn't really marry."

Ah, so I was born out of wedlock.

My life really… can't get any more interesting.

And she's dead?!

I guess the lie about me being an orphan isn't really a lie, after all.

"And their mother? Is she alive?"

"She is."

"Alright. Continue."

"Parents with great abilities and affinity can support and share their mana with their offspring. They can sort of, charge them, hence help their offspring grow stronger."

"Ok?"

"The Veltaurs aren't talented, so they couldn't help their son grow in any way. But their son craved power and strength. As you know, a noble getting adopted by another noble is quite common."

Koul's brow twitched. He could already guess.

"So the son demanded another noble family that were well known for their greatness to adopt him. They did, and from then, he's never communicated with his parents. They've long since been looking to adopt a new son to fill the space of that son. Rumor has it they even face public criticism over this."

"Really. You couldn't just find me a normal family without drama."

Koul stared blankly at Kanstiv. While Kanstiv turned his face away.

"I.. I tried,' he said nervously.

Sigh! Getting adopted by them will surely rub off their issue on me.

I haven't even started, yet I have problems awaiting me already.

The journey went on. At some point, they'd stop to get food, rest and do some necessities before continuing.

After hours, they finally reached the capital. It was now late at night. A whole day had gone by.

Kanstiv and Koul first checked into an inn before Kanstiv escorted Koul to the house he was getting adopted into.

Outside the compound of the house, Koul and Kanstiv stood. A mansion that stretched across the compound stood tall before them.

"That will be your new home," Kanstiv said.

"Let's go inside."
