Chapter 75: New Waifu | Ready for the Academy
After Koul took his bath and had his meal, he put on the casual clothes Kanstiv prepared for him.
A plain shirt and trouser. It differed majorly from the luxurious garments he was always adorned in.
Koul stood straight before the mirror and stared at his new appearance. The vibe was indeed different from when he dressed and carried himself as a king.
Yep! They can't discover me like this, he thought confidently.
Before long, Kanstiv came and handed Koul a scroll containing the names and ages of all his wives.
When Koul opened the scroll, his eyes quickly darted to the bottom page to see the number.
18? A total number of 18 wives?!
Koul was amazed but not too shocked. He expected at least this much.
He returned his focus back to the scroll and started going through it.
Most of his wives were outside the palace. Six were in the academy, one was with king Sestrus, another was visiting home, Nienai didn't live here, and the rest were in the palace.
That makes about 9 living here. Yui, Hera, Delma, Remi, and the rest.
Koul's eyes returned to the scroll.
Most of his wives were also older, ranging from 30-35. The minority were either the same age as him or younger.
Though there was one who was 20.
In the list of names, Koul's eyes lingered particularly on a name.
Melviah Roza Zott.
Nobles were well known for their three names like this. But this wasn't what caught Koul's attention. After all, many other of his wives were also from noble families.
He just didn't know why the name stirred something inside him. He dragged his eyes over to her age.
33.
Then he looked to the corner where it was noted whether or not they were in the palace.
She was.
I've never seen her.
"Kanstiv, this... Her, tell me about her," Koul demanded, pointing at her name on the scroll.
Kanstiv stared briefly at Koul, wondering why he would ask about his own wife. He should know them.
But on a second thought, he remembered how carefree he used to be so he probably just wifed them up without even properly looking into them.
"Lady Melviah. She's from a noble family that is somehow related to the emperor," he started.
Damn! A royal?
"As you might've already guessed since they're high up in power, lady Melviah had a suitor before you. One they deemed more responsible than you," Kanstiv said to Koul's face.
Tsk!
"Long story short, you came into the picture and ruined things. You coveted her not because you loved her or wanted her, but because you held a grudge against her family."
Oh fuck me.
Koul sighed, rubbing the middle of his brows.
He'd known enough about Koul already to be shocked. But still, it made him feel pity for her.
"By marrying her, you hoped her reputation would be dragged into the mud. Which it was. Her family casted her aside, they saw her as tainted and there's not a single good talk spoken behind her," Kanstiv continued.
"Her reputation became so bad, she couldn't even secure the job she wanted. That's all."
"She wanted a job?" Koul asked quietly.
"Yes. She had previously applied to be a professor in the academy months ago, but she was refused because her family isn't backing her up in anything any longer."
Hmm…
There are things other than revenge for me to do.
"I would like to see her before I leave," Koul said.
In fact, I would like to see them all. But there's no need to rush. There's time. It's not like I can't visit home when I start the academy.
"I will take you to her."
"Yes, but first, let's continue packing. Is the carriage ready?"
"Yes. I've packed every necessity we need. We'll use the carriage up to the capital and change into a smaller one before we reach our destination."
"Then I think that's all."
"Yes."
Koul peaked out his window to see the night. Everywhere was calm.
"Can we start leaving?"
"Anytime you're ready."
"Then, let me bid farewell to Yui."
Kanstiv walked Koul to the new house his wives now lived in. As they walked, Koul struck up a conversation.
"I plan to set Melviah free," he said.
Kanstiv glanced at him briefly then returned his gaze forward.
"She's endured enough because of me. Letting her go will do her more good than remaining here."
Kanstiv said nothing, he simply followed quietly and listened.
They reached Yui's door and he knocked gently. But the knocks went on repeatedly, yet no response came.
I guess she's still asleep, he thought, wondering how to get in.
But from behind, Kanstiv dangled some keys in his ears.
He already knew the door would be locked and grabbed the spare keys.
Koul stepped aside and watched Kanstiv open the door. Then he went in.
Yui was asleep on her bed.
He didn't want to wake her up so he simply kissed her on the forehead and walked out.
"I'd like to see Hera too," he said.
I just have a feeling if I don't, she might chop off my head.
Since she's the only one who actually knows I'm going to the academy.
They went to Hera's room, and again, Kanstiv had to use the spare keys.
But when Koul entered, the room was empty. He couldn't find Hera anywhere.
His brows wrinkled in worry.
"Did she inform any of you she was leaving for anywhere?"
"No. But lady Hera had always just left without giving words."
"I see," Koul said softly.
He couldn't help but still worry.
She better be fine.
They exited the room and Kanstiv locked it back. As they walked back down the vast hallway, a quiet voice sounded.
"Is that you Kanstiv?"
Koul instantly snapped to a corner to hide.
The voice was gentle, quieter than any he had ever heard.
Kanstiv looked to him with confusion, silently questioning why he hid.
"I don't know," Koul mouthed with a shrug.
He really didn't know why. His body just moved before he could think.
Probably because he was being discreet about his academy? He wasn't sure.
Kanstiv drew a bit closer and mouthed, "Lady Melviah."
Koul's heart lurched instantly.
Melviah?
"Kanstiv?" She called again, straining to see in the dim lit hallway.
"Yes, lady Melviah, it's me," Kanstiv finally replied.
He walked over to her, leaving Koul behind.
Even though Koul had wanted to see her, he couldn't bring himself to show up in front of her.
From behind the walls where he hid, he stuck out his head to peek.
She stood some distance away. She was draped in a loose silver robe, but her figure could still very well be seen.
She seemed curvy in all the right places. Big breasts, large cakes, and most of all, an angelic face.
The energy radiating from her was so calm, it almost made Koul fall asleep.
Compared to the rest of his wives, she appeared more mature and calm. By mere looking at her, one could tell she was a kind soul.
Her blonde hair was tied up in a messy bun and though Koul couldn't properly see her eyes, he saw them to be yellow beady eyes.
They radiated softness.
As he stood behind the walls peeking at her, his heart thumped loudly.
He watched her converse warmly with Kanstiv, noting every movement she made.
After a while, she entered her room and Kanstiv returned.
"So? When do I inform her you decided to free her?" Kanstiv questioned.
"Who said that?" Koul questioned with surprise.
"You said you'll let her go," Kanstiv said with a lazy look.
"I'd curse myself for eternity if I let her go."
"…."
"…."
No, really, I must've been under some influence when I said that.
"Ugh.. let's go before it's dawn."
They quietly left the palace to the outside and mounted the carriage.
"How long till we get to the capital?"
"A day and a half at most."
"Alright. As we go, tell me about the family that will be adopting me."
Koul and Kanstiv took their seats inside the carriage.
But the carriage hadn't even moved when a hand slid in, grabbed Koul roughly by the collar and sent him crashing out.
