Chapter 65: A Punch is the Best Thing to Welcome a Brother With
[What's with that unsightly grin on your face?] The system questioned with irritation.
But with a dismissive gesture, Koul waved it away.
He didn't have the strength to joke around with it. His fatigue was too heavy.
He rose and exited the office. And at the two sides of the door to the office, two knights stood guard.
He knew right away that Kanstiv had sent them, so he said nothing.
He walked back to his chamber while the two knights trailed quietly behind him.
Before he entered, he made it clear.
"No one is allowed entry for the night."
He was too tired and only craved sleep. Though he knew well that the probability of Yui or Hera coming to pay him a visit wasn't zero, he just couldn't.
He needed rest. And his mental capacity
wasn't at its best.
When he entered, he found his meal ready.
"Sir Kanstiv had it prepared before leaving," one of the knights said.
Koul walked to the meal and saw they were all light. Nothing heavy and just about what he needed.
He'a somehow always on track.
He had the meal. After that, the knights cleared it and he went to bed.
I wanted to go see my wives and check out where they live, but well…. Zzzzzzzz….
*********
Three whole days. For three whole days, Koul remained to himself. He was either sweating away in the training ground or handling matters regarding the palace.
He hadn't let anyone come see him. Not even his wives, Hera and Yui.
He'd become so preoccupied with the things he needed to do that he saw everything else as a distraction.
No words had also been heard from Kanstiv since he left for the capital on Koul's orders. But Koul knew it was because Kanstiv was still on the hunt for a noble family that would be willing to adopt him.
He had also written a decree to be sent to the said brother who would look after things in his absence.
Since that particular brother of his was said to be known as a wanderer, his current location would take about two days at best to arrive at. So Koul wrote the decree and had one of his knights deliver it.
Today makes it three days since then and four days since Kanstiv left. Yet there had still been no word from neither the knight he sent nor his brother.
As always like the new routine he had adapted to, waking up very early. Koul sat up on his bed.
His eyes were red and heavy. And his hair was disheveled like he battled in his dream.
Fuck!
He sighed, burying his head in his palm. His breaths were loud and long.
After some moments, he lifted his head.
"Status Window."
His status window appeared.

Koul's eyes lingered on the screen for moments, before he turned away and let the screen fade.
With a loud sigh, he rose from the bed and strolled toward the door.
When he opened it and stepped out, he was greeted by the two knights keeping watch.
"My wives' quarters, take me there."
He had not even done anything after just waking up. Haven't even had anything. But he's been meaning to check out his wives' quarters since days ago.
But he didn't have the chance as he'd been busy.
At first, the knights glanced at themselves because Koul was still just in his night garment. But seeing his stern face, they bowed right away and started escorting him.
Koul was escorted out of the main palace where he resided, toward the northern end of the palace compound.
On both sides of the narrow tiled road stood several buildings, neatly lined up. Each one was medium-sized, with tiled roofs, and decorated with fancy ornaments that gave off a traditional feel.
The road stretched straight from one end to the other, passing between the houses.
Damn! It's long!
Before he could go any further, the treasurer came running toward them.
"Your majesty, huff, I heard you came out to see the quarters, so I came here as fast as I could."
He was crouched with hands to his knees, panting.
Koul turned to briefly gaze at him then returned his gaze to the small buildings in front of him.
Before long, the residents of the quarters started coming out.
His wives.
Each one of them stood at the door to their own quarters. Like Koul, they were still in their night garments, and their hair was pouring down.
Koul's eyes swept over them, ignoring the look of displeasure on most of their faces. After all, he hadn't come here to gawk at them or study their expressions, but to look at the condition of the quarters.
Among the wives that came out, Yui and Hera nestled at the far ends. Their gazes were fixated heavily on Koul. But Koul was too in his business mind to notice.
Recently, he'd been too preoccupied with getting things done so as to get closer to exerting his revenge.
All to the extent of banning himself physical pleasures.
"Isn't there a better building that can accommodate them all?"
He turned to the treasurer and asked.
"There is, your highness."
"Take me there."
Without a word to any of his wives, and not even a single glance back, Koul was escorted away.
He arrived at another building that resided at the east end of the compound. The building was grande, almost like the one he resided in.
"It's certainly very big. Will it accommodate them all?" He asked as his eyes scrutinized it.
"Surely. The rooms are abundant, your highness. It can become the concubine palace, if you want."
Hearing the word with which the treasurer addressed his wives, Koul's gaze momentarily flicked toward him.
But he said nothing.
Because they could be called that, after all.
He returned his gaze back to the building. And indeed, it was far better than the quarters. Far more luxurious and comfortable.
"Repair all that needs to be fixed here, and have them move here as soon as possible," he said, and turned to start leaving.
The knights and treasurer trailed hastily behind him as Koul hurried away.
Just before he entered his own building, he paused. Then turned to the treasurer.
"Just because I said you shouldn't hold back on their resources doesn't mean you should splurge it carelessly on them though," he said.
"Of course, your majesty. You only asked me to give to them what is duly their rights. Not to splurge it on them carelessly."
Koul nodded.
"And make sure they start getting the respect they deserve."
"Yes."
"Including from you all," he pointed to the treasurer and the two knights with him.
They nodded and bowed.
Koul resumed walking and the moment he stepped into his palace, a cracking punch slammed into his face out of nowhere.
It caused him to lose his balance and stagger backward.
Koul winched. His hand immediately shot to his nose to rub the ache.
"Ugh.. fuck! Who dared?"
He raised his face to meet a young man before him. The man was slightly taller with pale skin.
His eyes were grey and his short hair, a darkish brown that fell over his face.
Although his features differed, the resemblance was still there. Plus, seeing as his knights didn't move to act against the young man, he knew right away.
That this was his brother, Iske.
