Chapter 355: Camille's situation 7
Zam couldn't move out anymore because of the other members that had surrounded him immediately.
"Camille fainted a while ago—"
"He fainted? What happened? Was it from the pain? What about the zombie virus? Is it still spreading?" Nathan and the others asked anxiously.
"The signs of the zombie virus infection disappeared a while ago, but he fainted afterward."
"Really? They actually disappeared?" Vivian asked.
"Yes, all of them are gone," Zam said seriously.
After Zam's confirmation, everyone looked relieved.
"Wow!"
"That's great news!"
"Amazing."
"But he fainted… Is he okay now?"
"I'll go check on him for a bit," Nathan said, entering the room.
Nathan and Zam went inside again to assess Camille's condition.
"How is Camille?" Vivian asked once more when the two came back out.
"He doesn't show any zombie symptoms anymore. His blood is red again with no black substance mixed in it anymore.
He most likely fainted because his body is recovering the energy it used up fighting the zombie virus and his superpower. He should wake up once he regains enough strength," Nathan explained.
"Zam, can you tell us what happened to Camille after you two went into isolation?" Treyton asked as he sat down on the sofa.
Luciel, curious as well, sat beside him.
"The virus wasn't spreading much at first, and Camille was still able to joke around. But after two hours, the infection suddenly started spreading faster. Camille said he could feel his body becoming numb.
By the fifth hour, he was still conscious, but black lines had already appeared on his neck.
Not long after, the pain hit him. It was so intense I had to block his mouth with a cloth so he wouldn't bite his tongue.
He stayed in pain until he fainted. But while he was enduring it, the black lines gradually faded until they were completely gone just before he passed out," Zam summarized.
"I see. Thankfully, even though he suffered for hours, he managed to overcome it in the end and didn't become a zombie," Treyton said, then turned to Zam and added, "But we still need to monitor his condition, at least for the next 24 hours or until he wakes up, just to be safe. Do you want to keep watch over him? If you're tired, I can assign someone else."
"I'm fine. I'll continue watching over Camille," Zam answered immediately.
"Okay," Treyton agreed to Zam's request. Then he turned to the others and said, "Since we've already confirmed that Camille isn't in danger anymore, there's no need for you all to stay here. Go and continue with your training."
The others immediately agreed and left to go about their own tasks.
Unlike before, they were clearly no longer worried even though 24 hours hadn't passed yet. Knowing that the chances of Camille turning into a zombie were now very small, almost negligible, brought obvious relief.
They had smiles on their faces, and most didn't stay behind since they had things of their own to focus on, mostly training.
Luciel, having just come downstairs, didn't bother going back up and chose to stay on the third floor since he still had his phone with him.
He resumed the game he had paused earlier, the one he stopped playing when he was about to go back to sleep but was interrupted by Nathan's shout.
Ashlee and the other kids also stayed on the third floor with him.
They were visibly happy now, as Jane and the others had already explained that Camille wouldn't turn into a zombie and wouldn't be leaving them.
Relieved, the kids regained their energy and started playing games again. Even though they still insisted on staying on the third floor, wanting to see Camille as soon as he woke up so they were no longer upset.
They busied themselves with picture puzzles, while Luciel relaxed on the sofa playing his own game.
Elsewhere, the others focused on their individual training just like Treyton, beside Luciel, who was working on refining metal, controlling it with his power, and tempering it by adding and removing different types.
When Luciel began to feel sleepy again, he stopped playing and went upstairs to sleep in his and Treyton's shared room.
On the way up, passing from the third floor, he noticed that everyone was training more intensely than usual.
It seemed that what happened to Camille had reminded them that even with powerful allies, they couldn't afford to be careless.
Even though they have powerful people around them, there are still a lot of things that might happen that couldn't be prevented if they weren't vigilant and strong enough.
Treyton and the others had always planned well and managed the team carefully, especially in combat situations. Injuries might happen during missions, but thanks to preparation and the presence of powerful team members, they were rarely fatal.
In fact, the only time someone from Treyton's team had actually turned into a zombie was at the very beginning when everyone was put to sleep and some never woke up again as humans.
Since then, no one had turned into a zombie in their team due to injuries or being bitten.
Over time, most of the team members had likely let their guard down unconsciously, believing that their preparation and strength were enough to prevent future incidents.
Camille's accident was a wake-up call, a reminder that nothing is ever absolute. No matter how strong others in the group might be, if you're not strong enough to protect yourself, you could still fall.
And those who were already stronger than the rest were probably reminded, too, that their current strength still wasn't enough to prevent every accident.
Of course, even if they really become very strong, not every accident could be prevented, but at least they could prevent damage from most of it.
For example, in Camille's case, if he had been a bit faster, then he would have been able to avoid being grazed by an arrow and would not have been at risk of becoming a zombie.
