Chapter 323: Sparring with others
"I'll just have to spar with them."
"Sparring? I've already watched how the others fight, since I've also been training with them for a while, and of course, from watching Zam and the others during their sparring sessions.
But I haven't seen you fight anyone else aside from that brief moment during the mutant bird attack, which I only saw through the window. Can I come watch?" Camille asked, visibly interested.
"No problem," Luciel answered casually, continuing to enjoy his meal.
"Then I'll definitely go and watch!" Camille said cheerfully.
The others also seemed interested in watching him spar. Everyone else in the room chimed in, saying they wanted to go as well. Even Aunt Cana and the kids looked curious and eager to see him spar with the others.
Luciel didn't mind being watched at all. He was already used to having people watch him, so there was no reason to refuse. There was nothing wrong with others observing him during sparring anyway.
-
He had already planned to go to the other villa where Treyton and the others were training. So after resting for an hour in the living room to let his food digest, he made his way there.
As soon as Camille and the others saw him heading toward the other villa, they immediately followed.
The first floor of that villa had already been refitted by Treyton and the others to be suitable for combat practice.
Of course, it wasn't particularly spacious, but it was still enough for daily training. And for those who needed more intense or heavier training, they could always go to the military area to practice.
As part of the reward from their previous mission, their team had already been granted the privilege of using most of the military's training areas. They even had a specific training ground reserved exclusively for their team, so they never had to worry about finding space to train.
When they arrived at the other villa, the ones already training looked up at them.
"What are you all doing here?" Treyton asked when he saw the group approaching.
"I want to spar with you guys. The others just followed to watch," Luciel replied.
But the moment he finished speaking, everyone who was still training turned to look at him with surprise.
"Training?! Luciel, are you sure you're alright?" Nathan asked, clearly shocked.
"What's with all of your exaggerated reactions? It's just simple sparring," Luciel said. He understood why they were surprised, but still, he felt their reactions were a bit too much.
"It is simple, sure. But for someone who's usually lounging on the sofa to suddenly want to spar, it's surprising," Treyton said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, well, I still want to keep living that relaxing life. So I have to train hard now, so I can go back to being lazy sooner," Luciel answered as he walked over and picked up a glaive resting at the side.
"I see. Then why the sudden motivation to train through sparring?" Treyton asked curiously.
"Obviously, because I still want to enjoy a longer leisure life."
His life now was much better than in his past one. He could live peacefully and enjoy himself, aside from the occasional accident that forced him to take action. So of course, he wanted to enjoy such a leisurely life for as long as possible.
If he suddenly died just because he wasn't strong enough, then having a second life would be nothing more than a wasted opportunity. It would be a real pity to get another chance at life and not even be able to enjoy it for long.
Of course, he still wanted to find and kill whoever was responsible for dragging him into yet another apocalyptic world but since he was already here, alive, he might as well live well and make up for the things he missed in his previous life while constantly struggling to survive.
That's why he needed to train. He had to make sure that he could live longer while still enjoying the leisurely life he had now. It would be such a waste to die early without even getting to enjoy it properly.
"So you just want to be lazy in the end, so now you're training a bit," Treyton said with a chuckle.
"That's right," Luciel replied, then added, "Want to have a go?" he asked, glancing at Treyton while holding the glaive and giving it a few light swings to get a feel for its weight and balance in his hands.
"Okay. Any rules?" Treyton agreed easily and walked over to grab a glaive of his own. He and the others had been using glaives regularly over the past few months, so Treyton was very familiar with handling the weapon.
"Let's fight seriously, aiming to kill, but only with weapons. No abilities."
Luciel's goal was to train his physical strength. If he used his plant ability, it would defeat the purpose.
And honestly, if the two of them seriously used their abilities and fought at full force, the training room would be far too small. They wouldn't be able to go all out without wrecking the place or worse, hurting someone else nearby.
"Okay, no problem," Treyton replied calmly.
When the others heard that Luciel and Treyton were going to spar, they quickly cleared the training area, moving anything that might get in the way, and then all the others gathered along the edges of the room to watch.
Apparently, no one wanted to miss the fight. Luciel didn't see a single person leave.
He and Treyton stepped to the center of the room, then backed off until there was about five meters of distance between them.
Both of them began to gauge each other's stance, watching for signs of movement.
The moment Luciel saw Treyton's glaive shift, he knew an attack was coming. Without hesitation, he moved as well, stepping forward and meeting Treyton's strike head-on.
Their weapons collided with a sharp, metallic clang, but neither of them cared about it. They immediately continued attacking, targeting each other's vital points without holding back.
They had already agreed to spar as if they were truly trying to kill each other, so both of them were fighting seriously—looking for weaknesses, trying to create openings, and pushing each other's limits with every strike.
