Chapter 154: Chapter 154: The Ocean of Devouring Light

The cursed corpses aimed straight for Hanami, who was embedded in the ground. Behind them, several first-grade cursed spirits released by Kenjaku swarmed forward.

The puppets piled onto Hanami, burying it beneath them. The first-grade cursed spirits joined in, viciously tearing into the unmoving corpses.

This scene was all too familiar—any moment now, tree branches would explode from Hanami's body, ripping the corpses apart.

However…

"Self-destruct."

Falling from above, Yaga spoke in a deep voice.

Blinding white light burst from the cursed corpses, engulfing Hanami and the first-grade cursed spirits. The dark forest was illuminated as if it were midday.

Boom!

A deafening explosion shook the ground. The blazing fire consumed every first-grade cursed spirit. At the center of the blast, Hanami was gravely injured—its body torn and tattered, its right arm completely blown off. Dark purple blood spilled from its mouth.

Yaga landed on the ground, surveying the destruction caused by his sacrificed cursed corpses—all except for one, the only one that survived.

A massive crater marked the explosion's impact. The first-grade cursed spirits were annihilated. The special-grade Hanami had taken serious damage. Meanwhile, Yaga remained unscathed and still had a remaining corpse at his disposal.

The scales of victory had once again tipped in humanity's favor.

"Tactically speaking, this was a success." The muscular man sighed, feeling a pang of regret.

After all, each of those lost corpses had been painstakingly crafted by his own hands.

"Cough… cough…"

Hanami struggled to stand, using its cursed energy to heal its wounds.

"This is the first time I've ever been injured this badly since my birth."

"I really didn't want to use this move."

Hanami crouched down, placing its palm gently on the ground.

Golden ripples spread outward from its body. Everything touched by the waves—whether towering trees or tiny blades of grass—withered at an alarming speed, shriveling into lifeless husks.

As the plants around withered, the red flower bud on Hanami's left shoulder slowly bloomed, revealing a half-closed eye. A golden glow pulsed rhythmically within it, as if it were breathing.

"What's happening?"

Even though he didn't know what would happen when that flower bloomed, Yaga Masamichi knew he couldn't just let it continue.

Without hesitation, he dashed forward alongside his killer rabbit cursed corpse, charging at Hanami.

"Plants don't produce cursed energy, but my left hand can take their life force and convert it into cursed energy. However, that energy doesn't transfer to me—it all goes into this offering flower."

The single eye on the red flower was now fully open. A surge of cursed energy materialized into golden lightning, crackling in the air.

"Domain Expansion: Blooming Sea of Light!"

A pitch-black barrier rapidly spread outward like a massive tidal wave, swallowing Yaga and his cursed corpse, trapping them inside the domain.

"What!?"

The surroundings changed in an instant. When he regained his senses, Yaga found himself standing in an endless field of flowers. Bright, colorful blossoms bloomed everywhere, and above him stretched a vast, clear blue sky.

It was like stepping into the most beautiful place in the world. His mind, lulled by the peaceful scenery, started to relax.

Both Yaga and his cursed corpse had content expressions on their faces.

No, something's wrong!

Realization struck Yaga like lightning. "This domain… it's designed to make people let their guard down and lose their will to fight!?"

That brief hesitation was all it took.

The golden light in the eye of the offering flower on Hanami's shoulder shone at its brightest, like a miniature sun capable of blinding anyone who looked directly at it.

But it wasn't just visually overwhelming. In terms of cursed energy, it was just as terrifying. The massive energy source pulsed like an activated bomb, flickering with golden lightning—a clear warning sign of impending detonation.

Inside a domain, techniques gain an unavoidable hit effect. The only ways to counter it are using another domain to nullify the effect or countering with cursed techniques.

So, did Yaga Masamichi, a special-grade sorcerer recognized for developing autonomous cursed corpses, possess the ability to use Domain Expansion?

Of course not.

But he did have a weaker version—Simple Domain.

"New Shadow Style: Simple Domain!"

Yaga expanded a Simple Domain within a two-meter radius around him. It wouldn't completely nullify the unavoidable effect of a true domain, but it should at least buy him some time.

Or so he thought.

Squelch!

A sharp branch pierced through his chest, splitting his flesh apart. A flower bud bloomed at the wound, and from its center, a mouth lined with razor-sharp teeth opened wide.

The Simple Domain he had just formed shattered in less than a second.

"What!? Impossible!"

Yaga's sunglasses slid down his nose, revealing his shocked expression.

When did I get hit?

Could it be…

"That's right," Hanami smirked. "The moment you were dragged into my domain, when you let your guard down for just a split second—you were already caught in my technique."

"When did you get the idea that you had actually nullified Blooming Sea of Light's unavoidable effect?"

Only now did Yaga realize—this wasn't a beautiful flower field at all.

These weren't ordinary wildflowers.

They were all mouths, disguised as flowers, ready to devour him!

This domain's technique wasn't coming from the offering flower on Hanami's shoulder.

It was the seed—the one that absorbed cursed energy!

"As the first sorcerer to injure me this badly, I'll remember you."

Golden lightning filled Yaga's entire vision.

"Goodbye."

Like a beam of sunlight, a blast of cursed energy crackled with golden lightning and shot out from the flower's eye, piercing through Yaga's chest and engulfing him in a sea of blinding light.

—

"Masamichi, when you said my mom came to see me… were you talking about your wife?"

In a quiet forest, Yaga Masamichi held the small hand of a teddy bear-like cursed corpse as they walked along a dirt path, heading out of the woods.

"No, I meant exactly what I said. It's your real mother."

His voice was soft—surprisingly gentle, coming from such a tall, rugged-looking man.

At the end of the path, just outside the forest, stood Kusakabe Atsuya.

Beside him was a wheelchair.

Sitting in it was a pale, frail-looking woman with lifeless eyes.

Yaga Masamichi arrived with a cursed corpse named Koguma, a teddy bear, standing in front of the two people.

"Masamichi, that person is my mom, right?" Koguma peeked out from behind Yaga, sticking its head out slightly.

"That's right. You figured it out, huh? You're pretty sharp." Yaga smiled.

"Hehe, the moment I saw her, I had a feeling it might be her." Koguma proudly pointed at itself with its thumb. "What do you think? I'm a genius, right?"

A genius, right?

A shimmer of tears suddenly flashed in the white-haired woman's lifeless eyes, and gradually, her pupils regained focus.

She suddenly lunged from her wheelchair and hugged Koguma tightly. "Koguma! Waaa… My Koguma…!"

Caught off guard, Koguma's face showed a look of shock. It didn't know how to react and turned to Yaga for help, but when no response came, it could only follow the warmth rising in its heart. With its short little arms, it wrapped them around the woman's neck.

At that moment, the woman's choked sobs turned into heartbreaking cries.

Yaga walked over to Kusakabe and spoke softly, "This guy isn't your nephew. It's just a cursed corpse carrying information related to him."

Hearing Yaga's harsh truth, Kusakabe Atsuya, chewing on a blade of grass, let out a sigh.

"If someone stays trapped in the grief of losing a loved one, how can they move forward in life? But if my sister loses the last thing keeping her going, she won't be able to live on."

"Anyway, thanks, Principal Yaga."

"It's nothing."
