Chapter 153: Chapter 153: Fierce Battle! The Puppet Army!

The fight erupted in an instant.

Yaga Masamichi, blocked from advancing, threw a punch at Hanami without hesitation. His speed was so fast that Hanami had no time to react and took the hit directly to the face.

With a burst of cursed energy, the punch snapped the two branches extending from Hanami's eye sockets, knocking it off balance and sending it stumbling backward.

Yaga quickly lowered his stance and swept Hanami's legs out from under it, completely breaking its footing.

After knocking down his obstacle, he immediately rushed toward Kenjaku.

From both the enemy's goal and the fact that this unknown entity had taken over Suguru Geto's body, stopping him was the top priority.

That special-grade curse? It was nothing more than a tool that man had brought along.

But suddenly, alarm bells went off in Yaga's mind. He barely managed to stop running forward and dodged to the side.

A moment later, thick roots burst from the ground, their sharp branches piercing through the space where he had just stood. If he hadn't sensed the danger in time, he would have been skewered.

"Tch, I knew it wouldn't be easy dealing with a special grade..." Yaga clicked his tongue in frustration.

When he looked back toward Kenjaku, the man had already disappeared from sight.

"Looks like I have no choice but to deal with you first."

Yaga turned to face Hanami, raising his hands in a fighting stance. Hanami did the same.

But then...

A large, dark shadow suddenly appeared behind Hanami.

Sensing the incoming attack, Hanami turned and raised an arm to block. A cursed corpse in the shape of a teddy bear had lunged at it.

Unlike the cursed spirits that Geto had controlled, Yaga's cursed corpses were far more numerous. They were enough to keep those Grade 1 curses occupied while also helping him in battle.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Yaga closed the gap.

"Don't blame me for fighting dirty, curse."

After all, a puppet user fought mainly through their creations. Yaga's own hand-to-hand combat skills and muscular build were purely the result of his own hard work.

He twisted his body, pulled back his fist, and unleashed another explosive punch infused with cursed energy. Hanami was sent flying.

Then, a rabbit-shaped cursed corpse suddenly sprang out, chasing after the airborne Hanami. A rapid series of punches sent it crashing back down to the ground.

Despite the onslaught, Hanami managed to stabilize itself, skidding to a stop and leaving two deep trenches in the earth.

More cursed corpses swarmed over Hanami, burying it under a mountain of stuffed animals.

Yaga kept his eyes locked on the pile. He knew special-grade curses weren't so easy to take down.

And sure enough, after a brief pause, countless branches burst out, skewering the cursed corpses and exposing Hanami's figure once more.

Those sharp branches had grown directly from Hanami's body, piercing straight through the cursed corpses' cores and destroying them.

It was unbelievable that Hanami had managed to make such precise attacks even while buried.

"Yeah, special grades really aren't easy to deal with."

Yaga had expected this, but that didn't make the situation any less troublesome.

"Against other curses, you and these puppets might've had the upper hand," Hanami said, crossing its arms. Small seeds began forming between its fingers. "But unfortunately for you, you're facing me."

Hanami suddenly flung the seeds forward. They landed precisely on the cursed corpses fighting against the Grade 1 curses.

Cursed corpses were powered by cursed energy, and Hanami's seeds fed on cursed energy to grow.

Yaga's eyes widened in horror as the seeds embedded themselves into the cursed corpses, sprouting eerie flowers from their wounds. Each flower had a gaping mouth lined with sharp teeth.

In no time, the branches grew larger and larger, while the cursed corpses shrank rapidly. Their cursed energy was completely drained, turning them back into lifeless, ugly dolls.

Then, Hanami effortlessly tore them apart.

Scraps of fabric and cotton floated through the air.

With nearly ten cursed corpses gone in an instant, the battle's balance shifted.

They had only been able to hold their ground against the Grade 1 curses because of their numbers. Now, the advantage was slipping away.

More seeds appeared in Hanami's hands once again.

"We have to stop it!"

Realizing this, Masamichi Yaga could no longer let Hanami destroy his cursed corpses as it pleased. He rushed toward Hanami immediately.

But when it came to preventing others from getting close, Hanami was an expert.

Massive, tangled tree branches burst from the ground, lunging at Yaga like a beast with its jaws wide open. Yaga had no choice but to dodge, watching helplessly as Hanami used its seeds to pick off his carefully crafted cursed corpses one by one.

The scales of victory were slowly tipping in Hanami's favor.

"In that case, I'll stop fighting the first-grade cursed spirit and focus my corpses entirely on attacking this special-grade one!"

Yaga quickly changed his strategy, commanding his remaining cursed corpses to go all out against Hanami.

The cursed corpses, which had been tangled up in battle with the first-grade cursed spirit, immediately retreated and charged at Hanami instead.

Though two were taken down by Hanami's curse-infused seeds, the pressure from their advance forced it to halt its attack.

Hanami crouched and slammed its palm onto the ground. Thick branches erupted beneath its feet, lifting it high into the air and out of the corpses' reach.

As the corpses climbed up the branches to chase after it, the branches suddenly vanished. With their footing gone, the corpses could only stare at Hanami, who stood on a floating tree stump, as they fell helplessly toward the ground.

However, some corpses still remained on the ground. They grabbed each other's hands and flung their allies into the air. In an instant, both the cursed corpses and Yaga himself appeared in front and behind Hanami at the same time.

A pincer attack!

Faced with Yaga's well-organized assault, Hanami reacted instantly—dismissing the platform beneath its feet and allowing itself to fall.

Yaga's fist shifted into an open palm, grabbing hold of a cursed corpse's hand and swinging it downward. Though made of cotton and fabric, the cursed corpse suddenly carried an unnatural weight, crashing into Hanami's chest like a cannonball.

With a deafening crash, the ground caved in, cracks spreading outward in every direction. The cursed corpses, who had been waiting for this moment, bared their fangs and pounced on the fallen Hanami.
