Transmigrated As An Extra In The Apocalypse

Chapter 10: Chapter 9: Battleground [3]

The earth trembled under the weight of the infected beast as it moved, its sheer size made every step it took look like a drumbeat shaking the ground and sending vibrations up through my legs.

"Open fire!" Sergeant Thomas barked, his voice hoarse but commanding.

Bang!! Bang!!...

A deafening hailstorm of bullets erupted from the soldiers weapons, the sharp cracks of gunfire echoing across the devastated battlefield.

The rounds zipped through the air, slamming into the beast's hide only to ricochet off like pebbles thrown at steel.

"It's not working!" someone shouted in panic, the words barely audible over the relentless gunfire.

"Just what is this monster?!" Another muttered, fear in his eyes.

"Bring the strongest explosive! Now!" Thomas roared, his face red with strain.

From the rear, military support units scrambled, hauling forward what looked like a monstrous missile launcher its dark frame and sleek barrel promising the kind of destruction that could level a city.

The soldiers quickly set it up in seconds, their faces grim and hands steady as they aimed it at the oncoming beast.

"Clear the area!" Thomas bellowed.

The weapon fired, the recoil shaking the ground and creating a shockwave that knocked some soldiers to their knees.

The missile streaked through the air, leaving a smoking trail as it closed the distance to the infected beast.

For a split second, hope flared in their chest.

The beast stopped and raised one massive, clawed hand.

With a horrifying

Boom!,

It clapped its hands together as if swatting an insect.

The missile collided with the force of the clap and detonated in mid-air, sending a shockwave rippling through the battlefield.

The explosion swallowed the beast in smoke and flame, and I shielded my face from the scorching wind.

For a moment, the battlefield fell silent, save for the ringing in my ears.

Then the smoke cleared.

The beast was still there.

It stepped forward, its massive body smoldering but undamaged.

Beneath it, I could see the crumpled forms of some infecteds who died from the explosion.

It was the only silver lining, but the beast itself hadn't even slowed down.

The soldiers stared in disbelief. Some lowered their guns, too stunned to keep firing.

Even the awakened among us faltered, their eyes wide with shock.

"Impossible…" Edward muttered, his voice a low growl through his communicator.

While everyone stood frozen, I wasn't shaking in fear because I was already quickly scanning the wreckage, my mind racing as I searched for an escape route.

The beast is unstoppable, there is no way they could beat that thing.

Not here, not now, I'm not going to die here with them.

Amber broke the silence, her voice cutting through the dread like a blade.

"We don't have time to be shocked!" she yelled.

"It adapts to everything we throw at it, but what if we hit it harder and faster than it can adjust, we can bring it down!"

she is crazy, she actually thinks they can defeat that beast.

Her words sparked a flicker of hope in some.

But Edward turned to her, shaking his head. "Amber, that's suicide."

"Standing here doing nothing is the real suicide!" Amber shot back. "We don't have any other choice!"

The remaining awakened exchanged wary glances.

They were hesitant, but they knew she was right.

The current strategy was just dragging out their deaths.

"Fine, let's do it, we have nothing to lose from trying, except our lives, we would still lose it anyways, if we continue staying stagnant like this" Edward relented, his tone firm. "Military support! Bring us energy fuel, now!"

A team of support soldiers rushed forward, carrying energy canisters, glowing faintly with blue light.

The awakened each grabbed one, draining the fuel in seconds.

Their cyber suits charged with fresh energy, the veins of light on their suits flaring to life.

Amber turned to me, her gaze softening despite the chaos. "Sky, stay here. Don't follow me."

I blinked, the weight of her words hitting me. "What? You can't fight that thing head on! You'll surely die!"

Even with plot amour by your side, It will not guarantee survival.

She smiled faintly, tucking a strand of golden hair behind her ear. "I won't die, neither will I get infected either. My ability makes me immune to the infection for sometime. I'll be just fine, if you are worried about me, that is a bad idea."

Her calm confidence didn't reassure me.

Neither was i going to stop her either, she seem hell bent on going to commit suicide.

"Just you watch me." Her voice was quiet, steady.

She pulled her arm free, turning toward the other awakened.

Edward was already stepping forward, his massive cyber suit groaning with power as it shifted.

It grew bulkier, transforming into a form that looked like a monstrous hybrid of a bear and a gorilla. With every step, the ground trembled beneath his weight.

Beside him, the other awakened began their transformations.

One of the men's suits elongated, the metallic plates shifting and reshaping into a sleek, wolf-like design. His visor glowed an eerie silver, and his hands were tipped with razor-sharp claws.

The second awakened's suit shifted into something darker its armor forming jagged edges like a scorpion, the tail-like appendage arcing over his back, glowing faintly with energy.

Amber's transformation was the most stunning.

Her cyber suit shifted seamlessly, glowing with an ethereal white light.

The armor clung to her slender figure like it had been sculpted for her alone, emanating a power that felt otherworldly.

Unlike the others, her suit wasn't designed in resemblance to an animal, instead, it radiated a divine presence.

I stood frozen, watching her. Thinking of whether she would survive.

Amber turned back to me one last time. "Dont just stand there, do something to help the soldiers. I will be back soon!."

The way she said the word looks heroic, like the word a hero would say when they are about to sacrifice themselves.

Damn, I think I have read too much fictions.

Suddenly her body began to glow again.

Three thin ropes of white light extended from her back, snaking through the air until they connected with Edward and the other two awakened.

The ropes pulsed faintly, their glow fading as quickly as it appeared.

"Let's move!" Edward roared.

In a blur of motion, the four of them surged forward, their movements a blur of speed and light.

The ground beneath where they stood recently, cracked and splintered from the sheer force of their speed.

The soldiers resumed firing, trying desperately to hold back the lesser infected swarming the area.

Their bullets slowed the monsters' progress, but it wouldn't last long.

I could see it, the tide was coming.
