Chapter 20: Yi Bai: Have I Become Something Inhuman? Vampire ≠ Bloodline
"The Never-Ending Tasks, Each One Filled with Danger..."
"If you weren't the lucky player you are, you'd probably already be facing certain death!"
"With your sharp mind, you can sense the taste of conspiracy. The man who's been giving you these deadly tasks, He Yi, has something big to hide!"
As the voice, almost like a narrator, echoed in Yi Bai's ears, the final task was finally released.
[Final Task — The Crisis of the Third Hospital: The seemingly peaceful hospital has long been falling apart. Where is the missing hospital director? Why are the doctors, patients, and staff disappearing? Why is it that no human players have survived? The deadly chain of tasks… the Third Hospital is about to sink because of the greed of certain individuals.]
[Task Requirement: Resolve the crisis of the Third Hospital (Time is running out, the madness of the greedy ones could bring the hospital to ruin at any moment)!]
[The reward will be given after the task is completed...]
Yi Bai skipped over the task description and focused on the key requirements. His eyes narrowed slightly as he read. The time crunch was particularly striking.
But his lips curled into a slight smile. He wasn't worried.
The tighter the deadline, the more it meant one thing: He Yi was panicking!
It wasn't hard to imagine that with his ruthless style, He Yi would take drastic measures if he saw his position and life on the line. Something insane, like one final scam before fleeing the Third Hospital. Yi Bai wasn't even surprised. He even imagined how He Yi would react when he saw Yi Bai appear before him, unharmed and still alive. It would probably send him into a frenzy.
"What are you smiling about?" Lina asked, eyeing Yi Bai curiously. She couldn't hear the eerie game voice and didn't know the details of his tasks.
"The final task for the Horror Game just dropped. If I resolve the Third Hospital crisis, I'll complete the task and return to the real world." Yi Bai said with a calm smile.
"Are you leaving?" Lina's expression flickered slightly, a hint of reluctance flashing in her eyes before quickly disappearing. She didn't say anything more. She knew this day would come eventually.
"Not yet. The overall task time is a full week. I'll stay until the very last day, the last second."
Yi Bai's words were sweet, almost cheesy.
Lina's pale face turned red in an instant. She lowered her head and couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze.
Yi Bai chuckled inwardly. Looks like the "cool" nurse ghost had nothing on him when it came to this kind of thing.
"By the way, before we bait He Yi, we need to contact Count Rose." Yi Bai suddenly remembered the most crucial part of his plan — contacting Count Rose, who he still hadn't reached out to.
But then he thought about how much the Count loved his blood.
Sacrificing a little should be no big deal.
"Speaking of Count Rose, there's something I forgot to tell you!" Lina slapped her head, looking a little awkward.
"What is it?"
"Yi Bai, before I tell you, I want you to prepare yourself mentally." Lina's expression shifted, clearly worried about how Yi Bai would take the news.
"Huh?" Yi Bai was becoming more confused. "Lina, just tell me. I've been dragged into this Horror Game to survive. What else could I possibly not accept? Don't worry about it."
Lina, seeing his response, didn't press the matter further and began telling Yi Bai about his initial embrace by Count Rose.
She explained about the vampire magic circle hidden beneath his white coat, something Yi Bai had completely overlooked until now.
Shock.
A daze.
Confusion.
And... joy?
A mix of emotions surged through Yi Bai's mind, leaving him momentarily speechless.
The "initial embrace"... Having read countless novels and watched movies, he knew exactly what that meant.
Just hours ago, he was still a normal human. And now, he had been turned into something that could only survive by drinking blood — a monster.
Many vampire fans would love such an outcome, but for Yi Bai, his concerns were much broader.
To survive, being turned into a vampire wasn't the worst thing in the world. He could accept that.
But the real issue?
He wasn't an ordinary player.
His special talent, combined with his unique divine ability, already gave him a solid foundation for survival. With that foundation, being turned into a vampire had a whole new meaning for him.
Vampires were known for their weaknesses: they feared sunlight, holy water, and crucifixes. They had to drink blood to survive.
Those were their flaws, their weaknesses.
But they also had strengths: incredible healing abilities, long lives, and the magical powers passed down through the bloodline.
If he could receive those gifts through the initial embrace, Yi Bai would be able to leap ahead of the other players and become one of the strongest.
It was a trade-off — the advantages were clear, but the limitations made Yi Bai uneasy.
The greatest problem, though, was that the initial embrace, in his understanding, would create a bond of servitude between him and the higher vampires.
That was something Yi Bai could not accept.
"You seem upset?" Lina noticed the conflicting emotions on Yi Bai's face. "Is it because you won't be human anymore?"
"No, it's not that." Yi Bai forced a smile and, without hiding anything, explained his reasoning to Lina.
Of course, he didn't mention his divine ability, the Eye of Insight, but after hearing Yi Bai's concerns, Lina's expression slowly became strange.
"What's wrong? Is there something I've misunderstood?" Yi Bai asked, sensing something was off.
"I think Yi Bai, you've misunderstood something," Lina said seriously, her expression turning grave. "First, bloodline vampires and vampires are two very different concepts."
"Huh?" Yi Bai was even more confused.
From what he knew, and based on all the information players had given him, bloodline vampires and regular vampires were basically the same creatures with just a slight difference in name.
"Yi Bai, you have to remember this: In the Horror World, when dealing with nobles like Count Rose, you must never refer to them as vampires!" Lina spoke sternly. "Bloodline vampires are royalty, while regular vampires are nothing more than their branded, enslaved servants. And the worst kind of servants!"
"Also, Yi Bai, it seems you've confused some things about the bloodline vampires. The weaknesses you mentioned? They aren't true. If they were, it would only apply to regular vampires."
"True bloodline vampires are among the most powerful and elite groups in the Horror World. They don't have the weaknesses you mentioned, and there's no servitude or subservience between them and the higher vampires."
"When Count Rose initially embraced you, Yi Bai, you became part of the bloodline family!"
