These Familiars Are Strange

Chapter 293: Invasion (12)

After the high grade Abyss Demons had been taken care of, there was a lull in the attacks of the Abyss Demons.

It was clear that whatever plans they had had been broken, so they were regrouping.

But that also gave us a chance to regroup as well.

After the matter of the ring was reported to headquarters, it was finally decided that the troops would be brought in.

Even if the captains still wanted to hoard the Abyss Demons, they knew that this was no longer possible with the new danger to them. Even they could recognize that if the Abyss Demons could come up with something like these rings, there was no end to what else they could come up with.

As such, there was no time for them to compete over contribution points.

The only thing that they could do now was just prepare as many things as possible.

That was why they used this lull in the attacks of the Abyss Demons to bring all of the soldiers in.

There were many shocked looks on the faces of the soldiers when they entered the Abyss.

After all, it was the first time that they had entered the Abyss for most of them.

Even if they were here to defend the Abyss entrance, that didn't mean that they had the chance to enter the Abyss often. After all, the Abyss really wasn't a place that could be entered that easily.

This place was a harsh environment that wasn't that easy to adapt to.

If they didn't have a choice, they certainly wouldn't have brought the soldiers in here.

There were even many soldiers that were clearly being affected by the harsh energy that filled the air in this place.

Still, it was easier since there were arrays that had been set up for them.

The problem was that this limited their area of action.

The soldiers could only operate in the places where the array had been set up for them, so it wasn't as if there was that large of a space for them to move in. If the Abyss Demons really invaded in force, then it would be hard for them to actually fight back against them.

But of course, that didn't really matter since there were the Abyss Guards behind these soldiers.

If the Abyss Demons really did come out in force, the Abyss Guards would be more than happy to take them down. These were precious contribution points, so they were more than happy to accept these.

In the first place, the soldiers were just there as necessary cannon fodder to stop the Abyss Demons from swarming the Abyss Guards.

With the soldiers in place, it really seemed like the exit portal was much more secured.

But there was still the problem of the fact that they had no idea when the Abyss Demons would attack.

"What do you mean by the Abyss Demons have disappeared?" I asked Yun Tian when he came back from the meeting.

Yun Tian was silent for a bit before saying with a sigh, "At least in the surrounding area, there isn't a single trace of the Abyss Demons. It's clear that they have left this area and have stopped trying to attack us."

"But they won't give up that easily, right?" I asked in a heavy voice.

Yun Tian gave a slow nod in response before saying, "For now, they've sent scouts further out to see if they can find any traces of the Abyss Demons. It's just that they aren't going to send the scouts out too far since there's nothing that they can do for them if they get caught. In this situation, there really isn't much that we can do since we have no idea what the Abyss Demons are planning."

"Once burnt, twice cautious. It seems that they've learned their lesson after what happened last time, but that has made them too cautious now and that's also a problem." I said in a thoughtful voice.

Yun Tian just gave another slow nod in response without saying anything.

Then with a sigh, he said, "I know that it's safer this way, but if they were a bit less cautious…Well, there's nothing that we can do about it."

I gave a nod as well before leaning in to ask, "About the favour that I asked…"

Yun Tian revealed a serious look as well when he heard this and then he lowered his voice to say, "There's nothing so far. I've had Wang Bin scout the area, but he hasn't found a single thing yet."

I gave a slight nod to show that I understood.

As for what we were referring to, it was to see if there were any Abyss Demon corpses with that strange energy.

I told Yun Tian about this and had asked him to send the scout of his team, Wang Bin, around the camp and the surrounding area to see if he could find anything similar.

Since that person had acted before, that must mean that there was a reason why they had to leave behind that Abyss Demon corpse. With how they had left it, it was very likely that they had done it because they needed some kind of energy or nutrients from the Abyss Demon corpse.

Since I hadn't found anything during the past week, it meant that this person must be reaching a limit.

As such, I was hoping to find another Abyss Demon corpse with the same strange energy for more clues.

However, it seemed that whoever it was either still didn't need to feed yet or had gotten better at hiding the corpses. If it was the latter, it made sense since there was far more security around the camp now.

With a sigh, I said, "Please have him continue keeping an eye out just in case."

"Is it really that bad?" Yun Tian asked with a concerned look.

I shook my head slowly as I said, "It's just a feeling that I have."
