These Familiars Are Strange

Chapter 294: Invasion (13)

It really seemed like the Abyss Demons had completely run away with how there wasn't a single trace of them left behind.

Even when the soldiers were moved in and put into different positions. Even when the soldiers started building up different cover spreading out from the exit.

With how they all disappeared, it was as if there weren't a single Abyss Demon that were here.

But that really didn't make sense.

Would the Abyss Demons really give up that easily after causing that big of a stir?

It really felt like there was something off.

"Not a single thing?" I couldn't help asking Yun Tian when he came into the tent.

Yun Tian just shook his head before saying, "It really seems like they're completely gone."

"But do you believe it?" I said with a heavy look on my face.

Yun Tian didn't respond right away as if he was thinking about it, but eventually he shook his head to show what he was thinking.

In the end, he said, "It's not just you who thinks that something strange is happening, it's also the captains that are thinking the same thing."

"They've finally come around?" I couldn't help asking in a surprised voice.

Yun Tian slowly nodded, but then he said, "It seems that they want to send the scouts further out again."

"Even after what happened last time?" My brows knit when I heard this.

Yun Tian also had the same frown on his face, but he said, "It's not that they haven't learned their lesson, it's just that they feel that it would be dangerous to keep defending like this. You have to remember that we're not the natives of this Abyss, so we don't really know as much as the Abyss Demons do. There's no telling what these Abyss Demons are planning. There might be something that we don't know about that would be dangerous to let the Abyss Demons continue with whatever they're doing."

I slowly nodded in agreement when I heard this.

However, there was still a look of doubt that was in my eyes.

After all, there were all those different things that had happened previously and in my eyes…the most likely culprits were actually the captains that were in charge. They had the ability to command the others and access to all kinds of different resources.

It really seemed like they were the ones that were behind those corpses in the first place.

But if that was the case, just what did they hope to gain?

After all, if the Abyss Demons were to actually break out and invade our world, it wasn't as if it would be a guarantee that they would actually be able to do anything. At the same time, being a human would mean being lower than the Abyss Demons in a worst case scenario.

It really didn't seem like there was anything to gain from them working with the Abyss Demons if that was the case.

In the end, I just said, "For now, let's follow some of the scouts. I want to see what happens to them."

Yun Tian looked at me with one brow raised, but he slowly gave a nod when he saw the expression that was on my face.

Since I wouldn't give up, he chose to trust me and go along with what I was doing until the end.

I couldn't help looking at him with gratitude when I saw him like this.

Since we had contributed last time, it was quite easy for us to get a position on the scouting team.

In fact, it seemed like the captains were all in agreement of this.

Though the reason that they were in agreement was because they wanted to make use of my ability.

I had been the one that had discovered the Abyss Demons that had been hiding themselves. That was why they wanted me to go out to scout since I had the highest chance of discovering something that the scouts might miss.

However, it also seemed like they treated me as a kind of important resource.

"Don't go too far and make sure to keep yourself safe."

That was the order that I was given by them.

It was an order that was completely different from the orders that the other scouts received, but that was just how it was when I had something that none of them had.

However, I had no intentions of actually scouting the area.

I knew that there was nothing to gain from scouting the area as I had already walked around the area with the Astral White Tiger. I had even gone out a few times with the Astral White Tiger hidden in my clothes without anyone knowing.

If the senses of the Astral White Tiger couldn't find anything, then there was no doubt that either there was nothing here or there was no one that would be able to find whatever the Abyss Demons were hiding.

What I really cared about was where the scouts were going.

After all, they were being deployed by the captains themselves.

If they really wanted to do something, now would be the best time to do so.

Yun Tian didn't seem like he completely supported me when I told him what I was planning, but I was grateful that he decided to trust me and go along with it.

However, it still seemed like he had his doubts.

"They don't seem to be doing anything. I think that you're thinking too much about this. It's not as if they have a reason to betray the Abyss Guards."

I didn't say anything as I continued watching the scouts move forward.

During this time, I had been waiting for the Astral White Tiger to say anything.

After all, the Astral White Tiger could sense things that the rest of us couldn't sense.

So if there was anything that happened, the Astral White Tiger would be the first one to notice it and warn us about it.

But there it laid in my shirt like it was about to fall asleep.
