These Familiars Are Strange

Chapter 292: Invasion (11)

After the demonstration, Yun Tian handed the ring over to the captains.

The captains took this matter very seriously and decided to jointly report this back to headquarters. As such, they needed that ring as well to hand over since it was necessary for the report.

But they did promise that Yun Tian would receive the proper compensation for this.

Though in reality, Yun Tian knew that it was very unlikely that this would actually happen.

At most, he would receive a bit, but the captains would take it for themselves.

However, Yun Tian didn't mind since there was something more important to it.

Since the captains didn't have any appraisers, they naturally didn't see the hidden message that was attached to the ring. As such, they had no idea that they had actually fallen for a trap that Yun Tian had set for them.

In fact, it was best if Yun Tian wasn't attached to this matter since it would separate him from this and what followed.

When he came back, Yun Tian gave a nod to me as he said, "It's done."

With a nod back, I said, "Thank you for doing this."

Yun Tian shook his head with a serious look before saying, "No, this is something that has to be done. This is a matter that could threaten the very existence of the Abyss Guards and the situation of the Abyss Demon invasion, so this is something that has to be taken seriously."

I gave a simple nod, but I couldn't help being a bit confused as I asked, "Why do you trust what I say so easily?"

It wasn't that I was trying to create friction between me and Yun Tian, it was just that I was genuinely confused why he trusted me that easily.

Yun Tian narrowed his eyes to look at me before saying, "Are you telling me that I shouldn't trust you that easily?"

I slowly shook my head before saying, "It's not that I'm saying that, it's just that you seem like you're trusting me a bit too easily that it makes me feel bad."

Yun Tian didn't say anything as he continued looking at me like this.

But then he suddenly revealed a wide smile as he said, "That's the reason why I trust you. It's because you say things like this."

A confused look appeared on my face after hearing him say this.

When Yun Tian saw this look on my face, he said, "You don't have to think about anything, just trust that my instincts are good. That is what I believe in and my instincts are telling me that you can be trusted."

I was still a bit confused when I heard this, but I was also a bit touched by his words.

In the end, I just gave a simple nod before moving onto the next topic.

"Did you find anything strange about the captains?"

A serious look appeared on Yun Tian's face again as he slowly shook his head.

This was the other thing that I had asked Yun Tian to look out for earlier, but it seemed that he wasn't able to find anything.

After a moment of silence, Yun Tian added, "I did watch them carefully, but they really didn't show any signs at all. It's clear that they are already used to hiding it or they have some kind of special method to not show anything."

I gave a nod in response since this was already what I had expected.

If they had been corrupted, it was clear that they would try to hide it until the end.

However, there was something that Yun Tian had to ask.

"Why do you think they did it?"

I didn't have to ask anything to know what he was asking about.

However, I didn't say anything at first as I had a complicated look on my face.

Eventually, I said, "Perhaps they can't control themselves…"

"Can't control themselves? Do you really think that would be the case for someone that has betrayed humanity?" Yun Tian said with a trace of anger in his voice.

I couldn't help shaking my head since even if I told him what I knew, it wasn't as if it would be that easy for him to accept. This wasn't something that would be easy to understand unless one knew the story behind it.

Unless they went to the Hidden Dungeon, it really was hard for them to understand these things.

But there was no time to bring Yun Tian there.

"Just trust me when I say that sometimes there are things that can't be controlled. That's the only way that I can explain it." I said with a sigh.

Yun Tian had a strange look on his face when he looked at me, but eventually he gave a slow nod.

I didn't say anything else on this matter since there was nothing that I could say that would convince Yun Tian of what I knew.

So the only thing that was left was…

"What else do you think they'll come up with?"

I shook my head again in response to this since there was no answer that I could give them.

The fact that there were humans working with the Abyss Demons was already bad enough, but this ring proved that they weren't just working with the Abyss Demons. They were actually using their intellect to develop these new forms of technology for the Abyss Demons.

That was what had been written in the description of this ring.

That was why there was no telling what else the Abyss Demons would come at us with.

These rings that could camouflage them was just the beginning, there would surely be all kinds of other things that could appear in the hands of the Abyss Demons and there really wasn't anything that we could do about it.

"I really don't like these odds." Yun Tian said with a heavy sigh.

"I don't either." I said with an equally heavy sigh.
