The Pokémon:Isekai

Chapter 19: Pewter City Gym

The familiar chime of the Pokémon Center's speakers echoed through the hall, followed by Nurse Joy's voice.

"Alex Carter! Your Ralts and Oddish are ready!"

I stood up immediately, Across the room, Rotom, who had been aimlessly floating around and poking at a wall-mounted TV, zipped back to my side. As Nurse Joy emerged from the backroom, a gentle smile on her face, Chansey trailed behind her, cradling a tray with two Pokéballs resting atop it.

"Thank you, Nurse Joy," I said as I carefully took the Pokéballs and attached them back to my belt. It felt good to have them back.

With a grin, I turned to Rotom. "We're ready to take on Brock."

[Let's go then, Alex Carter!] Rotom chirped, spinning in the air.

I waved a quick goodbye to Nurse Joy before stepping out of the Pokémon Center. The moment I emerged, the towering Pewter Gym caught my eye. It was right where I expected it to be—standing firm at the back of the Center, its sturdy stone walls giving off an imposing presence. Just behind it, the Pewter Museum of Science stretched high into the sky, its massive dome glistening under the sun. Even from here, it was clear the museum had expanded beyond what I had imagined.

"Let's check out the museum after we defeat the Gym. What do you guys think?" I asked, already reaching for my Pokéballs. With the press of a button, a flash of red light materialized into Aria and Oddish.

Aria stretched her small arms before shaking off any stiffness, her red horn and purple body glimmering slightly in the sunlight. Oddish, on the other hand, took a moment to wiggle his tiny leaves before lookimg at me.

[Let's do it, Alex Carter!] Rotom cheered, floating between me and my Pokémon.

I gave him a sideways glance. "Hey, Rotom, can you battle in the Gym with us? You know, like Aria and Oddish will?" Having a third Pokémon in my first Gym battle could really help turn the tide.

Rotom let out a mischievous giggle. [Hehehe, sorry, Alex Carter, but I'm not your Pokémon! My trainer is still that idiot Cherry, so I can't participate in official battles as part of your team. But don't worry! I can still help you in other ways!]

I sighed, scratching the back of my head. "Figured as much. In that case, can you at least tell me all the moves Oddish knows? And its gender, too?"

[Yes! I can do that, Alex Carter!] Rotom spun in the air before listing off the details. [Oddish knows Mega Drain, Sweet Scent, Growth, and Bite! And he's male, Alex Carter!]

As Rotom spoke, Aria and Oddish both seemed distracted by their surroundings. Aria's eyes scanned the large, bustling streets of Pewter City, occasionally tilting her head as if sensing something invisible. Oddish, on the other hand, was fully invested in a group of Pidgey that were pecking at the ground nearby. He took a few cautious steps toward them, watching with curiosity as they flapped their wings and hopped around.

I crouched down to Oddish's level, tapping my chin as I looked at him. "Alright, from now on, your name is Oddy." I pointed a finger at him.

Oddy let out a delighted cry, hopping once in approval before rubbing his leafy head against my hand. Aria simply sighed, looking unimpressed by my lack of creativity for oddy.

Meanwhile, Rotom spun lazily in the air, staring at me. [How lazy can you be to name an Oddish 'Oddy,' Alex Carter?] it thought, but wisely kept the comment to itself.

I straightened up, dusting off my pants. "Alright, team. Let's get to that Gym and win our first badge!" ı said as we made our way toward the entrance of the Pewter Gym.

As I stepped through the heavy metal doors of the Pewter Gym, the atmosphere instantly shifted. The air was cooler, carrying a faint scent of dust and minerals. The entire gym resembled a massive cave, with jagged rock formations lining the walls and torches flickering against the stone, casting long shadows that danced across the floor.

At the center of the cavernous room, two trainers stood talking with each other, their Pokéballs at their hand. They turned toward me as soon as I entered, their gazes sharp and assessing.

Before I could say anything, a man stepped forward from the shadows. He was bald, dressed in a well-pressed suit, and wore thin-rimmed glasses that reflected the dim torchlight.

"Hello, Trainer!" His voice echoed slightly in the rocky gym. "I'm the official Gym Guide of Pewter City's Rock-type Gym. My name is Will Peterson!"

Without warning, he tossed something at me. Instinctively, I caught it, realizing it was a cold bottle of water. Before I could thank him, he continued.

"I'll be your judge and guide for today. The rules are simple. If you want to challenge the Gym Leader Brock, you'll need to defeat these two trainers first," he gestured toward the two trainers, who were now stepping toward the battlefield with confident smirks.

"The Gym battle is a two-on-two match. If one of your Pokémon faints in this pre-battle, you won't be able to use it against Brock. However, any Pokémon that does not faint can be healed before your official Gym match." He adjusted his glasses, his expression unreadable. "Do you understand?"

I stood there for a moment, processing the rapid-fire rule dump. Did he really need to say all of that in one breath?

"Yeah, yeah, I got it. Thanks, Mr. Guide."

He clapped his hands together with an approving nod. "Good! Mrs. Juana! Mr. Gray! Step forward and prepare for battle!"

The two trainers moved to the center of the rock-lined battlefield, their Pokéballs already in hand. The guide turned to me with a all knowing look, silently telling me to get ready.

Before I could psych myself up, Rotom suddenly zipped forward, hovering beside me as it locked eyes with the Gym Guide.

[What a rude baldy! Alex Carter, don't worry! From what I saw, this will be as easy as taking candy from a baby for you!] Rotom declared confidently.

I resisted the urge to groan. "Rotom… don't say that out loud."

But the guide simply raised an eyebrow and smirked. "We'll see about that."

The first battle was about to begin.

I tightened my grip on Aria and Oddy's Pokéballs, stepping into position on the rocky battlefield. Across from me, the two trainers mirrored my movements, their fingers poised over their own Pokéballs. The dim lighting of the gym made it hard to see exactly which Pokémon they were sending out, but I knew that Oddy was going to have the upper hand in this match.

The moment their Pokéballs burst open, a Rhyhorn and Geodude materialized in front of them, their bodies slamming into the rocky ground with a heavy thud.

"Go, Aria! Go, Oddy!" I called, throwing my Pokéballs forward. A flash of light revealed Aria and Oddy both of whom took battle-ready stances as soon as they landed.

"Go, Rhyhorn!" the girl shouted.

"Geodude, use Defense Curl!" the boy commanded.

I gritted my teeth. Rollout is coming, I muttered under my breath. Geodude would be setting up for a powerful rolling attack, gaining momentum with each hit. That meant it needed to be taken down fast..

"Aria, use Double Team! Oddy, use Mega Drain on Geodude! It's our main concern for now!" I called out, knowing we had to act fast.

But the girl was already countering. "Rhyhorn, use Rock Tomb to block Mega Drain!"

The battlefield erupted into action—Aria's form flickered, splitting into multiple illusory copies, while Oddy's leaves glowed a bright green as it began absorbing energy for its attack.

But Rhyhorn was faster than I expected. With a thunderous roar, it slammed its front legs into the ground, causing large boulders to rise and collapse in front of Geodude, cutting off Oddy's Mega Drain before it could reach its target.

The battle had officially begun.

The battlefield trembled as Rhyhorn's Rock Tomb successfully blocked Oddy's Mega Drain, sending dust and debris flying across the gym. Geodude, now safely behind the rocks, curled into itself, its body hardening as its Defense Curl took effect.

I gritted my teeth. Not good. If Geodude lands multiple Rollout, it'll be a problem.

"Oddy, break through with another Mega Drain! Aria, use Confusion on Rhyhorn! Make it so it cannot help geodude"

Aria's eyes gleamed with a bright blue glow as psychic energy swirled around Rhyhorn. The massive rock-type grunted in pain, its heavy body lifted ever so slightly before crashing back onto the ground. Meanwhile, Oddy unleashed another Mega Drain, the glowing green tendrils piercing through the cracks in the Rock Tomb and latching onto Geodude.

"Not so fast! Geodude, Rollout!" the boy shouted.

Geodude, now crackling with built-up energy, spun like a rolling boulder and burst through the remains of Rock Tomb, heading straight for Oddy.

"Dodge it, Oddy!" I called.

But it was too late—Geodude slammed into Oddy with a heavy impact, sending my little grass-type skidding backward. Oddy shook itself off and got back up, but I could tell that hurt. One more hit, and we are in deep trouble.

I had to finish this fast.

"Oddy, use Sweet Scent! Aria, Confusion on Geodude now!"

Oddy twirled its leaves, releasing a fragrant pink mist into the air. Rhyhorn and Geodude's movements slowed, their focus dropped as they struggled to shake off the distraction.

That was our opening.

Aria's eyes flared blue once more, and this time, Geodude froze mid-roll, its body trapped in Aria's grip. Then, with a flick of her head, Aria launched Geodude backward, sending it crashing into the cavern walls.

"No!" the boy shouted as Geodude slumped forward,"Geodude is unable to battle. It is fainted" the Referee said while rotom smiled at him

I clenched my fist. One down!

The girl's expression hardened. "Rhyhorn, Bulldoze!"

Rhyhorn roared and stomped down, sending a shockwave through the battlefield. The ground trembled, and both Aria and Oddy struggled to keep their balance as the attack slammed into them, dealing damage and lowering their speed.

Oddy staggered but remained standing. Aria clutched her head but refused to go down.

"Oddy, finish this with Mega Drain! Aria, Double Team to distract it!"

Aria's form split into multiple images once more, surrounding Rhyhorn in a field of illusions. The rock-type thrashed about, confused by the mirages.

That was all the time we needed.

Oddy's leaves shimmered a brilliant green, and tendrils of energy shot forward, wrapping around Rhyhorn. The energy-draining attack sapped the last of its strength, leaving Rhyhorn groaning in exhaustion before collapsing onto the ground.

The battlefield fell silent. Then—

"Rhyhorn is unable to battle! The winner is Alex Carter!"

I grinned, looking proud. We did it.

Oddy bounced in excitement, and Aria let out a small, triumphant cry. Rotom zipped around me in excitement.

"[See? I told you it would be easy, Alex Carter!]" Rotom said smugly.

I let out a breath, walking over to my team. "You two did amazing," I said, kneeling down and patting both Oddy and Aria on the head.

The gym guide, Will Peterson, adjusted his glasses with a small smile. "Well, well. That was a solid battle. Looks like you're ready for the real challenge."

I stood up, eyes shining with determination. "That means Brock is next, right?"

Will nodded. "I'll call him now. Get ready—he won't go down as easily as these Mr. and Mrs."

I smirked, looking down "We'll see about that."

*AFTER 10 MINUTES OR SO*

I knelt down, carefully spraying Potion over Aria's and Oddy's minor wounds. The cool mist seeped into their bodies, helping them recover from the earlier battle.

As I tended to them, the metal doors of the gym slowly creaked open, revealing a tall man stepping through. His broad shoulders, spiky brown hair, and confident stride made it clear—this was Brock.

The moment I saw him, a grin spread across my face, and I stood up, excited.

"Brock!" I called.

He smiled back, his dark eyes calm yet curious as he extended a hand. "Yes, that's me. Do I know you?"

I reached out and shook his hand, maybe a little too enthusiastically. "Both yes and no," I replied, barely able to contain myself.

Brock tilted his head slightly, amused but confused. "What's that supposed to mean?"

I smirked. "Its nothing nevermind but! Before we battle, I have a question!"

Now his curiosity was piqued. "And what is it?"

I tightened my grip on his hand and grinned. "Who did you marry?!"

Brock stood there, clearly caught off guard by my question. "Wait—what? Isn't that kind of a weird thing to ask someone you just met?"

"Maybe," I admitted, "but come on, I need to know!"

Brock chuckled, shaking his head. "Alright, how about this? Let's make a bet. If you win, you get to eat with us at my house, and you can ask as many questions as you want. If you lose… well, you just lose."

I grinned. "Deal!"

Brock laughed, turning on his heel and making his way toward the battle arena. "Then get ready, kid, because I won't go easy on you!"

I took a deep breath, rolling my shoulders as I turned to my Pokémon. Aria and Oddy were fully healed now, standing at my side, ready to fight. I met Oddy's eyes and gave him a small nod—he was up first.

Oddy let out an eager cry, hopping forward onto the battlefield.

Brock smirked, gripping a Poké Ball tightly before tossing it forward. "Geodude, go!"

The Poké Ball snapped open, and with a burst of white light, Geodude emerged, its rocky arms flexing as it floated above the ground.

I took a deep breath, my heart pounding with excitement.

"Let's do this!"
