The Path of a Genius to Becoming a Pokémon Champion

Chapter 308: The Dragon-Slaying Hero

Seeing Specter make a move, the Aerodactyl leader knew that today's conflict would not be easily resolved.

There were no Ghost-type clans in the Mount Axewood area. The appearance of a Gengar here clearly meant that the human riding on the dragon's back was determined to interfere.

Damn it!

The Aerodactyl grit its teeth.

Having grown accustomed to acting with impunity due to its human backing, the Aerodactyl was finally getting a taste of what it was like to be on the receiving end.

In the past, he had been able to bully Old Flame precisely because he knew Old Flame had no one left—not only was his master gone, but most of his old comrades had also passed away.

Who would have thought that some meddler would just appear out of nowhere today!

The Aerodactyl's eyes darted around. It realized this was a serious situation and that it had to think of a way out.

Don't be fooled by the fact that most Aerodactyl have big heads and thick necks, looking like either idiots or brutes. This leader was different. He was full of cunning tricks.

Seeing the situation, he quickly called over a subordinate and gave it a few instructions.

His response was a two-pronged approach—

First, he sent his subordinate to the nearest observation post on the mountainside to report the incident.

The Mount Axewood area was dotted with many observation posts, mainly used to monitor ecological changes and the volcano's activity to provide timely warnings.

The observers in these posts had contact with the border defense forces outside.

The Aerodactyl clan's ability to act so arrogantly in the valley for so many years was primarily because their leader's former master had served in the border defense force. The guardians of this area knew him and had a decent relationship.

The Aerodactyl leader knew very well that despite the many powerful Pokémon in this mountain range—many of whom were retired from the battlefield, the competitive scene, the police, or the military—the true powerhouse in this area was, and always would be, humanity!

At the end of the day, this was not a nature reserve; it was the human world!

The nearby border defense force was the true authority in these mountains.

And his plan was to tattle to the authorities the moment he got into trouble.

After seeing his clever subordinate take off, the Aerodactyl leader immediately dropped his cunning demeanor and let out a ferocious roar, projecting an aura of absolute dominance.

He ordered all his dragons to focus their attacks on Old Flame and the human on his back!

This was his second step—

Focus the attack on the human, forcing him to press the distress button on his transmitter. This way, the border defense force would receive the signal and come to the rescue, and they would arrive much faster!

He didn't have the guts to actually kill Arthur—the human forces were the real top dogs in these mountains. Any Pokémon that killed a human would be mercilessly exiled.

But he was certain that this flock of Charizard wouldn't dare let this interfering human die here either; otherwise, they would be in just as much trouble.

By focusing their attacks on the human, they would make the Charizard hesitate.

Killing two birds with one stone!

The Aerodactyl leader couldn't help but congratulate himself on his own brilliance!

But in the next moment, Specter and Old Flame, who had noticed his little tricks, both began to laugh.

Doublade, on Arthur's back, trembled with joy, letting out a series of cheerful metallic rings.

"Bring it on!"

Arthur let out an excited shout, reaching back and drawing Doublade from its sheath!

Before the battle, he had left his hiking backpack in Old Flame's secluded cave, traveling light. The spot on his back was reserved for Doublade, who had yet to taste blood since its evolution!

"Old Flame, tell your clan to attack normally! Don't worry about us!" he shouted, leaning low on Old Flame's back.

"ROAR!"

The response was a dragon's roar filled with trust.

They hadn't fought side-by-side for two hundred years.

But that trust and tacit understanding were still the same, requiring no further words!

The next moment—

"Evolve, Old Flame!"

A dazzling white light shone once again!

In the rear, Caleb's face was filled with envy.

That blue form of Charizard was just so cool!

In the past, he had always firmly believed that his brother's Charizard was the strongest! But today, he suddenly learned that a Charizard could be this strong, and this cool!

It felt like he had lost in both power and style…

But in the next moment, he had no time for envy or jealousy. He let out a subconscious cry of alarm.

Because from his position at the back, he saw several Aerodactyl, led by their leader, diving at high speed towards Old Flame, who was leading the charge!

And Arthur was still on Old Flame's back!

"Look out!!"

He didn't know if his voice could even reach them.

But in the next moment, Arthur had already answered him with his actions—

No need to worry!

"Charge!"

He then pointed his sword forward while on Old Flame's back, actively meeting the diving enemy leader head-on!

Just like a dragon-riding warrior from a legend, leading the charge!

"ROAR!"

Old Flame let out a furious roar, using Dragon Claw to clash with the opposing leader, forcefully halting its charge!

Seizing the opening created when both were forced to a standstill in the air after the clash, Arthur, to everyone's surprise, stood up on Old Flame's back.

He then used Old Flame's back and neck as a runway, finally launching himself off Old Flame's forehead!

At this moment, everyone on the battlefield—both human and dragon—was stunned by his action!

Is this man insane?! Does he have a death wish?!

Only Old Flame and the Pokémon under Arthur's command remained calm, their emotions unwavering.

They were used to this.

If, one day, their master were to cower and shy away from a battle, that would be strange.

This mid-air leap, this dragon-riding jump-slash, was just a standard operating procedure, nothing to write home about.

But what was "nothing to write home about" in their eyes could only be described as horrifying in the eyes of the Aerodactyl leader!

He was a modern Pokémon.

In the years he had served, human war technology had already reached its peak. The entire military's combat philosophy was completely different from two hundred years ago.

The modern army no longer pursued the limits of individual bravery. As the saying goes: the poor use tactics, the rich use saturation bombing!

When had a modern-born Aerodactyl ever seen such a ferocious human warrior?!

This wasn't to say that the past was better than the present, but that the philosophy of war had changed. The modern human army no longer needed its soldiers to constantly put their lives on the line. This was, in fact, a reflection of the overall progress of human strength.

But this change in philosophy had also inevitably reduced the probability of a true, peak-level warrior being born.

At the very least, this Aerodactyl had never seen a human as ferocious as a vicious dragon…

In that one moment of hesitation, he had already missed his chance to dodge.

Arthur successfully leaped onto its back, a sword in each hand, and without mercy, plunged them into the base of the Aerodactyl's wings!

"AAAAAAH!!"

With a high-pitched, sharp cry of pain, the Aerodactyl uncontrollably plummeted from the sky.

And after landing the two blows, Arthur immediately let go of the swords.

Doublade could fly on its own anyway. No need to worry about losing them.

He then lowered his body, his hands shooting out to lock onto the Aerodactyl leader's short, thick neck, preventing it from shaking him off.

And so, man and dragon fell at high speed!

Finally, they crashed to the ground with a thunderous boom!

And a moment later, a scene that shocked everyone present, both human and dragon, occurred once again—

The Aerodactyl leader was still lying on the ground, whimpering pitifully.

But Arthur himself had already stepped out from the dust, calmly and steadily!

With a wave of his hand, the two swords that had been circling above returned to his grasp!

The blades sliced through the empty air with two sharp swishes, a soul-shattering sound!

Like a hero returned from slaying a dragon, his killing intent boiled, inspiring awe and fear!

Now, for a moment, the remaining Aerodactyl all felt their brains short-circuit.

Should they still follow their leader's command to focus their attacks on that human?

And more importantly—could that creature on the ground still be considered human?
