The Path of a Genius to Becoming a Pokémon Champion

Chapter 309: Helm Breaker, Foresight Slash, Iai Spirit Slash!

After the Aerodactyl leader fell, for a full several minutes, not a single dragon on the battlefield paid any attention to the human below.

It was as if they had all tacitly agreed to ignore what should have been the most obvious "weak point."

This allowed Old Flame and Specter in the air to fight with soaring spirits, and it also gave the grounded Arthur a chance to quietly catch his breath.

A moment ago, he wasn't nearly as fierce and invincible as he had appeared.

Falling from such a great height, even with an Aerodactyl as a cushion, was not a pleasant experience.

But as a seasoned veteran, Arthur knew better than anyone: on the battlefield, you can show anything but fear!

He maintained his intimidating presence perfectly!

Even as his entire body ached as if it were about to fall apart, he still walked out of the dust with steady, measured steps, his back as straight as possible. He raised his hand, summoned Doublade, and with a single, sharp slash through the air, he terrified the entire flock of Aerodactyl.

If you were to describe that moment with game stats, it would be: Arthur used Intimidate!

It was super effective!

The Aerodactyl flock flinched!

Greninja and Little Lapras now stood on either side of him, both letting out a sigh of relief.

He really pulled off that bluff.

Nice!

While the Aerodactyl were distracted, Little Lapras secretly used a Life Dew on Arthur.

Although a Pokémon's move has a diminished effect on a human, it's not completely useless.

Arthur stood quietly, feeling the life-infused water droplets seep through his skin, soothing his internal organs, healing his bruises, and dissolving the contusions.

After a long moment, he turned his head and spat out a mouthful of clotted blood. He instantly felt much lighter.

The moment of greatest weakness had passed.

Meanwhile, in the battle overhead, the Aerodactyl flock, lacking their leader, and with Old Flame's power soaring after Mega Evolution, was in a clear and growing decline.

At this point, one of the dragons, unable to bear the speed of their collapse, finally turned its attention back to the human on the ground, who was the most likely breakthrough point.

We have to take that human out!

If that human was injured, the Charizard would definitely retreat to get him to safety for treatment.

In this mountain range, no matter how much the Pokémon fought, battled, or vied for territory, the nearby border defense force, in principle, would not interfere. But if a human was in danger, all Pokémon had to allow them to be taken for medical attention.

Every intelligent Pokémon in these mountains knew this, because this was the human world. Any Pokémon that defied this principle would be exiled.

As long as they injured that human, this battle could be over!

With this thought, another Aerodactyl could no longer hold back and dove down!

It opened its massive beak and, during its dive, used the move Scary Face!

Unfortunately for it, none of the one human and two Pokémon on the ground gave it the time of day. Not a single one of them was scared…

Arthur, Greninja, and Little Lapras scattered in different directions, all easily dodging the lunge.

Greninja then leaped into the air, whipping its tongue-scarf back.

Arthur, after rolling to his feet, let go of his sword, reached up, and grabbed Greninja's tongue. Using the force of Greninja retracting its tongue, he launched himself into the air, stepping twice on the neck of the grounded Aerodactyl before using its shoulder to leap high into the sky!

This leap took him higher than the tongue-lashing Greninja, higher even than the head of the fallen Aerodactyl!

The next moment, Arthur raised his hand—

Doublade automatically fell into his grasp!

He then descended with gravity, his swords tracing two straight, vertical lines as they came down!

This move is called—Helm Breaker!

After landing, he rolled to the side, dodging a swipe from the Aerodactyl's wing-claws. He then got up, took a half-step back, sheathed his sword at his side, and then, in one breath, swung it diagonally upwards, the blade tracing a full moon!

This move is called—Foresight Slash!

Finally, Arthur let go of one sword and sheathed the other.

He stepped forward, his legs spread in a lunge, one hand on the sheath, the other on the hilt. He bowed his head slightly, as if drawing his entire presence into the scabbard.

Then, he exploded outwards!

The moment the sharp sword left its sheath, the glint of the blade was dazzling, as if a single strike had split the day from the dusk!

This move is called—Iai Spirit Slash!

Three moves later, the Aerodactyl, which had been on the ground for less than five seconds, crashed down. Its eyes rolled back, its long tongue lolled out, and half of its body was stained red with blood. It couldn't even stand, left with only a faint, weak breath.

If Arthur hadn't held back and commanded Doublade to use a skill, this Aerodactyl might have already breathed its last…

For a moment, the battlefield fell silent again.

The few Aerodactyl that had similar ideas but were a beat slower in their dive frantically beat their wings, halting their descent. They then pulled up sharply, each tracing an arc as they flew past Arthur's head, not a single one daring to land and engage. They all fled back to the safety of the high sky in a panic.

Terrifying!

The ground is too terrifying!

Only in the high sky is there a sliver of safety!

This scene made Old Flame and Specter laugh, and it left Caleb's family in the rear completely dumbfounded, their faces a mask of disillusionment.

Caleb's mind was filled with one thought: We're both human, so why is your style so different from ours? As a fellow human, I'm truly sorry…

Three moves later, Arthur let out a long breath.

With the current physical age of his transmigrated body, unleashing three moves in a row was his limit.

Fortunately, the enemy was easily scared and no longer dared to land.

You could only say that this generation of dragons was weak.

Oh, Aerodactyl aren't dragons? Well then, never mind…

Soon after, the Aerodactyl flock completely collapsed. Most were beaten down by Old Flame's forces, and the few clever ones that had avoided major injury had also landed, their heads pressed to the ground, trembling and not daring to cause trouble.

After subduing the entire Aerodactyl clan, the victorious Charizard all threw back their heads and let out roars of satisfaction. Many of them shot pillars of fire into the sky, venting the years of frustration they had held in.

"Roar, roar!!"

Among them, the one cheering the loudest was Old Flame's daughter.

Her mother had been injured by the current Aerodactyl leader; half of her wing had been torn to shreds, and she had permanently lost the ability to fly. This was why Old Flame had spent so many years guarding that cramped cave, rarely going out.

A flightless Charizard can barely hunt on the exposed cliffs and had to be cared for by Old Flame.

Old Flame then began to lay down the law with the defeated Aerodactyl, warning them never to approach the Charizard's side of the valley again!

At the same time, Arthur approached Caleb and his family.

"Did you record everything?"

"Yes."

"Good. Remember to send me the videos when we get out of the mountains."

Arthur knew very well that simply beating these Aerodactyl was just treating the symptom, not the cause. It wasn't that Old Flame didn't have the ability to beat the Aerodactyl leader before; it was that he knew that even after beating him, the opponent would just come back and cause trouble again.

Because in this mountain range, it was humans who had the final say.

So now, the problems between humans would be solved back in the human world!

Even if he was no longer a Champion, he believed he still had some connections in the human world.
