The Path of a Genius to Becoming a Pokémon Champion

Chapter 307: Lucky to Be Alive

The battle was over, and Julian's Charizard was a graceful loser.

It readily conceded its position as leader. In an instant, all the Charizard, Charmeleon, and Charmander in the basin threw back their heads and roared, expressing their respect for the new leader.

"What's this?!"

Caleb stared, dumbfounded.

He no longer had the face to brag to Arthur about his brother's Pokémon. Everyone had seen it clearly: the Charizard that had just defeated the former leader was the very one Arthur had flown in on.

Seeing his confusion, Arthur kindly explained.

"Don't worry. This isn't about targeting your brother's Charizard. We're just borrowing his leadership position for a bit."

His words snapped Caleb back to reality, and a flood of questions poured out.

"What is going on?! Where did you find this Charizard? Is it your family's Pokémon? But why did it listen to your commands? And, and what was that Mecha Evolution thing?!"

His frantic questioning almost made one want to sing: Little boy, do you have a lot of questions?

But Arthur couldn't explain too much. He could only say vaguely, "He is indeed a Pokémon I'm… familiar with. He went through some things, but he's better now."

Caleb looked at him suspiciously.

Although he felt Arthur was dodging the question, he couldn't press him further.

More importantly, he really didn't want to admit how jealous he was!

Why is there a Charizard stronger than the one my brother left behind? And this super cool blue Charizard even listens to Arthur's commands! It's so enviable… no, so infuriating!

To distract Caleb from asking any more questions, and to move on to the next order of business, Arthur took the initiative to explain the conflict between the Charizard and the nearby Aerodactyl.

Hearing the story, Caleb was naturally filled with righteous indignation.

"Then let's go beat the hell out of them!"

His brother's Charizard now lived in this valley; Caleb's loyalty was unconditionally with the Charizard clan.

Caleb's parents, however, were a bit hesitant.

"Is this really a good idea? You said some of those Aerodactyl are retired meritorious Pokémon with people behind them. If we just attack them, won't it cause trouble?"

They were ordinary, working-class people. Subconsciously, they still held a sense of awe for the league military.

But Arthur didn't care.

Two hundred years ago, he was a top commander in the combat forces. In a modern-day urban novel, he'd be the kind of dragon king who could summon a hundred thousand soldiers with a single command to boost his performance.

Besides his own mental fortitude, he also had a thorough understanding of the military's various systems and knew where the bottom line was. He wasn't worried about causing any trouble he couldn't handle.

As long as he didn't cross the line, he was going to make that flock of Aerodactyl pay today!

"It's fine. I know what I'm doing. By the way, do your phones still have a charge?"

Caleb and his parents both nodded.

They had brought charging equipment into the mountains, including a specially prepared Charjabug.

"But there's no signal in the mountains," Caleb said.

"We don't need a network signal. When the time comes, just turn on your video recorders and record everything. Leave the rest to me!"

Arthur was being mysterious, not yet revealing what he needed the recordings for.

But without a doubt, his goal this time was much more than just beating up a bunch of bullies.

Now that he had reclaimed Old Flame, he was going to solve this problem once and for all!

After taking the leadership position, Old Flame soared into the sky and let out a roar, immediately gaining the support of the vast majority of the Charizard in the basin.

Gregarious Pokémon generally have a high degree of obedience to their leader. Besides, they had been putting up with that Aerodactyl flock for a long time. All they needed was a catalyst.

Even the former leader, Julian's Charizard, who had always cautiously restrained his clan, had a fire burning in his heart.

In the past, he had to consider the entire clan, so he had endured it.

But now that a stronger leader had stepped up, it was time to kick some ass!

Charizard have never been a timid species!

If the new leader says fight, then we fight!!

ROAR!!

And so, just moments after taking the throne, after a brief rest, Old Flame immediately rallied all the Charizard in the valley and led them on a mighty warpath out of the basin!

Even Caleb and his parents were being carried by Julian's Charizard, joining in on this journey of revenge.

They hadn't flown far from the basin when they saw an Aerodactyl hunting antelopes and hares on the cliffs.

This was only a few hundred meters from the Charizard's gathering place. According to normal territorial divisions, this area should belong to the Charizard clan!

This was an outrageous insult!

Instantly, five or six Charizard swarmed it. This time, no matter what kind of type advantage it had, the lone Aerodactyl could only tuck its tail and flee in panic, abandoning the prey it had just caught.

In the past, the Charizard would have just reclaimed the prey, issued a warning, and left. But today was different!

Arthur's command rang out: "Keep chasing!"

Old Flame threw back his head and roared, carrying Arthur as he beat his wings in pursuit.

Behind him, all the Charizard followed in an orderly fashion, not a single one showing fear.

As long as someone leads the way, this species has never lacked courage!

They are Charizard, after all!

Soon, the flock of Charizard had chased the Aerodactyl to the mountainside, deep into a forest of stone pillars.

From the surrounding environment, it was easy to tell that this was the Aerodactyl's main nest.

"ROAR!!"

Suddenly, a furious roar came from ahead!

An exceptionally large and powerful Aerodactyl took to the sky!

It was undoubtedly the leader of the Aerodactyl flock.

Also having received professional training in the human world, the strength of this Aerodactyl leader was no less than that of Julian's Charizard!

This was one of the reasons his flock had been able to bully the neighboring Charizard for so long.

But this time was different!

The experienced Aerodactyl leader saw the human on the back of the invading enemy and immediately realized the situation had changed!

"Roar, roar, roar!"

It let out a series of angry roars, but with Greninja back in its Poké Ball, Arthur couldn't understand them.

But it didn't matter if he couldn't understand. A certain ghost could.

The next moment, to the Aerodactyl's complete surprise—before its old rivals could even make a move, a giant, ghostly claw shot out from the shadows below, tearing open its abdomen and making it shriek in pain!

If it hadn't been for its own considerable strength and quick reflexes, a normal Aerodactyl would have been disemboweled by that one strike.

Not only was the Aerodactyl leader caught off guard, but even Arthur was a bit stunned.

This was the first time he had ever seen Specter so eager to strike first.

"Specter, what's wrong?" he asked through their mental link.

"Ptooey!"

Specter spat viciously before explaining.

"This bastard has been relying on human favoritism to bully Old Flame for years, and now he has the gall to call us shameless for bringing a human helper?! Ptooey! If there's one thing I, Specter, hate in this life, it's a hypocrite! He's lucky to be alive after that one claw!"

"Uh…"

Arthur didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

This Aerodactyl was quite the character. Arthur had rarely seen Specter get this angry.

So, as they say: hypocrites deserve to be punished by all
