The more they Believe, The Richer I get

Chapter 34: Million Dollar Baby.

"Sorry for behaving that way the other day. I was not drunk but whiffed a whiskey, and I can tell you it doesn't go well with my body."

"Ah! It's alright, I don't mind. "

Chris was leaning in the security box to talk with the old security guard Darryl, the old man looked happy when he apologized.

"Here, Sir, take this."

"Oh! No, no, young man, you don't have to give me money every time we meet, I really don't mind."

"I insist!!"

Pushing a thousand bucks in the old man's hand was very hard, but Chris was finally able to hand him ten notes, almost forcing the man into the corner.

"Don't worry about it, man. I just got two deals from Amazon. Wait, let me see. The first one was for $50,000, and another—oh! Same $50,000, check they have already paid me in my bank, so just take it."

Patting the old Darryl's shoulder, Chris reassured the man, who was looking very uncomfortable taking the money. Chris even had to show his new transaction to make the old man comfortable enough to smile.

"Alright, I will catch you later."

With a wink, Chris walked inside. The day was rather warm compared to the other days, he could hear the birds chirping, and the wind was nice. This was the first time he felt how quiet, nice, and lovely this private community could be.

Shaking his head, Chris pulled out his new iPhone and then the banking app, his new balance was something else [$1,052,860], and with ten grand in his wallet, he was feeling like the king of the world.

Million Dollar Baby.

His excitement knew no bounds, his almost bouncing steps reached the biggest mansion in no time. The Howard mansion was the only mansion in the Silverpine Private Community to have the color silver within its walls.

Now that I see it, it's quite majestic.

Owning a mansion in this uphill part was no joke. Chris knew this mansion must have cost a lot, their diner was in the shitty part of the town, but it was still valued in millions.

Damn! Now that I think about it, it's a miracle Mr. Howard even accepted me. If I were a father and my daughter brought home a brokie, ahem!!

Wiping his nose slightly to distract himself from his self-destructing train of thoughts, Chris smiled and then entered the huge iron gate, which opened automatically for him.

"Chris?"

As he was crossing the garden, which was very lush even in the peak of winter, he heard Faith calling him from afar, when he looked towards the handcrafted oak garden swing seat, he saw her swinging while reading a book.

"Why are you outside? You would catch a cold."

Smilingly he walked towards her, Faith, on the other hand, looked intently at Chris for several seconds, intensity turned to confusion in no time.

"What is wrong with you? "

"There's nothing wrong with me. Why do I look weird?"

"Not weird but different. I can't pinpoint where and how, but there's something different about you, something has changed."

"I guess I became more handsome. "

"You really did become handsome, Weird. Go inside, Grace is waiting. Dad is having a brunch, so you're in luck."

"Will do, ma'am."

With a small salute Chris didn't linger with her, because she's really a fucking genius, she might find something other people won't even notice.

*Ding* *Dong*

As soon as she opened the door, her small mouth turned into an 'O' shape, and then she had to back up a little just to digest how he looked. Then, jumping down from the door, she circled him five times. She was not done yet, she had to touch his fingers and hair.

"What happened? Why?"

Grace looked distressed, rather than being pleased with his looks, she looked like someone had fed her a sour lemon, and the taste was not going away from her mouth at all.

"What do you mean, 'What happened?'"

"Why did you become so much more handsome? I don't get it. You didn't need it."

Chris has never seen her like this, Grace was almost going crazy over how he looks. She had the most dramatic reaction ever, even he did not react like this.

"I can't defend you anymore, you get that, right? "

"What are you talking about? We are not in war."

"Oh, we are, babe. We are so much in a war, it's just you are oblivious to the enemy."

Shaking her head with disappointment, Grace finally gestured for him to enter the house. Robert was reading a newspaper while sipping his coffee in the living hall.

"Uncle Robert"

With an overly familiar tone, Chris greeted Robert. Chris was smiling, while Robert looked at Chris with surprise-filled eyes.

"Chris, come, come."

Folding his newspaper, he gave his full attention to the young man in front of him. He understood Chris looked different today, and he was not talking about physical appearance, Chris's presence had changed.

Am I hallucinating?

Robert felt a spark in Chris today, for the first time ever, he has seen those eyes, which lack motivation and shine. Chris's eyes today looked hungry, like a lion searching for its prey.

I am not hallucinating at all, look at those eyes. The last time I saw this much spark in any fella, it was that Zuckerberg fella from Harvard.

"Uncle, how are you feeling? "

"I am feeling well, tomorrow we fly for New York. Is there anything you need from there?"

"Actually, I am not certain if this is the right time to ask, but I wanted to take Grace to Europe for this winter. I wanted to get your permission for this."

Both father and daughter's eyebrows jumped up in shock, Grace then blushed hard without uttering a word, while Robert's shocked reaction slowly turned hostile.
