Chapter 33: Casual Day.
"Wow, look at you! What happened to you?"
Seated behind the diner counter, Melissa reacted as soon as Chris walked in, she was surprised how good he looked but couldn't pinpoint what had changed within him.
"What happened? I thought I won you 20 grand?"
"Not that, I was talking about… Forget it, did you dye your hair?"
She had to get up and walk towards him to check his new hair color, it was, although, not that noticeable, but a sister-like mother would even notice if he had his nail clipped.
"I didn't dye, I used a shampoo and washed all the dirt."
"It doesn't feel like dye. See how dirty you became? I used to rub you clean, but you insisted on taking a shower by yourself at 6. I would have…."
"Cut it out,It's inappropriate."
"I know, I was just joking, hehe."
After teasing him a little, she smiled brightly, then, seeing a new customer coming in, her teasing smile changed to a polite one as she went back to her seat.
Seeing there was no waitress available, Chris took the menu from the counter and went ahead to greet the customers like the old days, both siblings running the business alone while their father is on the road sulking.
"Hello, there, ma'am."
"Oh my! Chris? You're becoming more handsome day by day, aren't you?"
As he pushed out the chair for her, the customer complimented rather than saying thank you, that goes to show how close people are to this family restaurant.
"Thank you so much, the menus have changed. More warmer options in this snow."
"That's nice."
As the two ladies settled at their table, Marsha came out of the kitchen holding a food tray for another set of customers, even the old Marsha stared at Chris for two whole seconds with the piping hot food, and then, squinting her eyes a little, she went to do her work.
Guess turning one in a billion is very eye-catching. What was I thinking?
The reactions from people like Marsha were scary, you have to know she was standing like nothing happened and serving people when there was a shootout in the alley a few years ago. Even bullets don't scare her.
With a regret-filled heart, he wanted to go upstairs, but Melissa gestured for him to stay for a while. As a little brother, can he say no to his older sister?
When the clock finally hit 9 in the morning, Chris saw Tina entering the diner in a hurry, she looked distressed and underslept and even fumbled when tying her coat to the hook.
"What happened to you?"
"L… Lena is sick, her fever won't go away. You seem different? "
When she looked back, she was shocked, Chris was looking out-of-this-world handsome, she blurted out without even thinking.
"Yeah, I know, I've heard that several times already."
"You didn't go to school?"
"Today we have the last class before the vacation, so class starts at 1, only for seniors though."
"Eh? Must be nice."
Tina didn't loiter around much and directly went to the kitchen, and as the staff filled in, Melissa gestured for him to go, but he stayed anyway. Melissa was going back tomorrow as well, which was a bummer, his vacation just started.
"Must you go? I wanted to take you to Europe."
"What would I do with you two there?"
"Enjoy Europe?"
"There are really few things I don't want to do with my little brother, and this is one of them. Did you talk with Dad about this?"
"Nope, I plan on doing it tonight."
Melissa nodded her head with an understanding, she wanted to also ask about how he is going to manage the whole flight situation, but she decided to trust him on that part, he was running a successful company anyway.
*Ringgg* *Ringgg*
Before Melissa can ask about the money sent by Mr. Beast, Chris's new phone rings, so he has to go out of the diner to talk because it is from Grace.
"Hey!!"
"Chris, are you at home?"
"Yep, Mel is at the counter, so I'm helping her out. What's up?"
"Dad wanted to talk to you. I thought you could come to the house first, and then we can head to school together."
"Ah! I could, but…"
"I understand, Mel needs a hand, I will tell Dad, he adores her."
"No, it's not like that. Staffs are back, so I could have come, but I sold my car yesterday."
"You did what?!!"
Her screeching voice was so loud that Chris had to pull his phone from his ear for a second just to adjust.
"Calm down, I plan on buying a new one, for that I really need Father-In-Law's help."
"Who are you calling father-in-law?"
"I am coming within an hour, the car I want is not sold regularly on the market, so he has to help me out."
"Ferrari?"
"Ferrari? No!! Aston Martin!! "
After ending the call, Chris smiled, he had looked up what kind of car he wanted, and for his first supercar, he wanted an Aston Martin. He felt like this car was very underrated compared to others and fit him well.
"Let's see what he can do, he must have some connection, right? Being in the money for generations "
Muttering under his breath, he went back and had to convince his sister to take the whole amount, otherwise, he would get mad. When she saw how serious Chris was being, Melissa finally decided to take it to buy their father a truck.
It's her nature, she won't take my money no matter what.
Shaking his head, Chris stepped inside the cab he ordered, with a backpack on his shoulder, ready for the final class before the last winter vacation of his school life.
The old security guard, seeing him getting out of the cab in front of the community gate, came forward. Chris intentionally told the driver to park near the gate so that he could take advantage of this old guard.
Hehe, with one thousand I can potentially earn up to two hundred grand.
A cunning smile formed on his face and vanished as soon as he touched the door handle to get down.
