The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!

Chapter 176: Greenhouse Cultivation_2

"Let's try both at the same time!"

"Ideally, we should conduct three sets of experiments to compare which method is more reliable and see how much benefit stacking them together can achieve."

"Won't we set up a control group as well?"

One of the skeleton soldiers glanced at the small, hard tomato that had fallen into the soil nearby.

"Isn't that already there?"

Another skeleton soldier chuckled sheepishly and scratched the back of his head.

"Yeah, you're right."

The Dark Night Elf standing nearby was silently amazed. She had never seen undead that were so lifelike.

Realizing this, she couldn't help but grow a bit more curious and expectant about how these skeleton soldiers might solve this problem.

She cleared her throat lightly and spoke in a serious tone.

"If you need anything, just let me know. As long as it's within my capabilities, I will do my best to assist you."

Beast Senior smiled and replied, "Don't worry! If we need your help, we won't hold back."

As soon as he finished speaking, [Xie Bu Rou de Hou Mi], who had just returned after checking the data, raised his hand.

"What about light levels and carbon dioxide concentration? I remember root systems primarily impact the absorption of water and nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, while sugar still depends on photosynthesis for carbon fixation."

"..."

"Seems like you're right."

"Never mind, add it to the plan too. Let's test it out first!"

The skeleton soldiers brainstormed for quite some time and eventually decided to set up 32 experiments for each crop, controlling for various variables and combinations of variables in hopes of determining the optimal growth environment for each crop.

After all, this is a game world, where each crop has subtle differences, and real-world experience might not necessarily apply.

The Dark Night Elf standing nearby stared in astonishment at the discussion among the skeleton soldiers.

If she had been merely surprised before, she was now utterly stunned.

Although the Translation Crystal translated nearly every word they said, she could hardly understand a single meaningful term.

At this moment, the skeleton soldier who had spoken to her earlier looked at her again and started to talk.

"By the way, how do you solve the problem of magically ripened berries being too small?"

Having exhausted real-world experiences, [Beast Senior] wanted to consult the locals for their insights.

Suppressing the shock in her expression, the Dark Night Elf considered for a moment and answered.

"We generally don't encounter this problem. Usually, we only use catalytic growth spells on berry bushes or fruit trees that have already reached a certain age and bear fruit."

[Legendary Liver King] stroked his chin and said.

"Plants of that type typically have well-developed organs, so it's true they're less likely to face this issue."

[Legendary Liver King] made a sarcastic remark.

"So basically, older plants are tougher and can take it better, huh?"

[Beast Senior] didn't stop and continued to ask.

"How old exactly is 'a certain age'? One year? Five years? Ten years?"

If it's too long, they couldn't afford to wait.

The Dark Night Elf shook her head and answered honestly.

"It doesn't depend on time. It's primarily determined by whether the plant has nurtured a Spirit of Nature."

[Beast Senior] paused for a moment, hearing an unfamiliar term, and then asked.

"What is a Spirit of Nature?"

The Dark Night Elf lady explained.

"You can think of it as a soul. Plants growing near the Life Mother Tree, as their growth rings increase, have a certain chance every spring to nurture a soul."

Players nearby showed an incredulous expression after hearing this.

"A soul?"

"Plants can have souls?!"

"Is it really that incredible?"

Incredible?

The Dark Night Elf's expression grew slightly complicated.

She thought the events unfolding before her eyes were even more incredible.

Additionally, she realized from the undead's discussion that life could indeed be divided into various distinct stages.

Previously, she had only vaguely sensed that, like elves, plants seemed to have juvenile, adult, and elder phases too. But she had never studied different plants and categorized their various stages in such a detailed manner as the skeleton soldiers had.

That was normal, of course.

After all, this world hadn't developed scientific thinking. Most production activities across regions were guided by empiricism.

The Dark Night Elf's tribe was no exception.

Moreover, their inherent nature predisposed them more to becoming artists than scholars.

Instead of pondering why an apple falls from a tree, they preferred spending time wondering what thoughts a plant might have.

After further deliberation, the life professional players present redesigned their experiments.

[Beast Senior] first used acolytes to summon the Earth Cave Spider construction team. On top of the original greenhouse cave, they dug additional branching caves.

These caves were slightly lower in height compared to the main cave, resembling trenches stretching outward along the sides of the main cave.

The roof of each branch cave was adorned with crystals engraved with glowing Netherworld Language scripts, and these crystals were connected to the Netherworld circuit of the entire greenhouse cave.

Next, they used burning coal to increase carbon dioxide concentration in the caves, leveraging the fact that carbon dioxide is heavier than air and letting it sink into the branch caves.

Through controlling magic power input, dish types, and coal quantities, they could roughly regulate a few variables in their experiments.

Though they couldn't achieve precise control, keeping things approximate was still manageable.
