Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Agent Nova
Dr. Elara slowly opened her eyes to find herself in a dimly lit room, surrounded by unfamiliar objects
She tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over her, forcing her back onto the bed.
"Where...where am I?" she stammered.
Ava entered the dimly lit room, a look of concern etched on her face. Dr. Elara, still feeling tipsy from the tranquilizer, looked up at her with a mix of fear and uncertainty.
"Who...who are you?" Dr. Elara stammered.
Ava smiled softly. "It's me, Ava."
Dr. Elara's eyes narrowed, trying to place Ava's face. And then, suddenly, recognition dawned.
"Ava? Ava Morales?" Dr. Elara's voice was laced with shock.
Ava nodded, her smile growing wider. "It's been a long time, Dr. Elara."
Dr. Elara's eyes widened in shock as Ava's words sparked a flood of memories.
In the computer room, Kael, Ryker, and Jax watched the scene unfold on the monitor, their faces filled with curiosity.
"Looks like Ava and Dr. Elara have a history," Ryker commented.
Kael nodded. "It seems they knew each other at the Division."
Jax's eyes narrowed. "Before Ava was betrayed and left for the Sanctuary."
Dr. Elara's eyes filled with tears as she gazed at Ava. "I thought you were dead."
Ava's expression turned grim. "I managed to escape. But I never forgot about you, Elara. I never forgot what you did."
Ava's expression turned cold. "They sent you to kill me, Elara. Long ago, when we were still at the Division."
Dr. Elara's eyes widened in shock. "Ava, I...I had no choice. They would have killed me too if I didn't cooperate."
Ava's voice was laced with pain. "You were my friend, Elara. My teammate. How could you agree to kill me?"
Dr. Elara's eyes filled with tears. "I'm so sorry, Ava. I was so sorry then, and I'm even more sorry now. I was trapped, Ava. I had no way out."
Ava's face twisted in anguish. "You could have found a way. You could have tried."
Dr. Elara shook her head, her voice barely above a whisper. "I was scared, Ava. I was so scared. And I did not know what else to do."
They spoke for a while and ended with their eyes locked in a heart-wrenching gaze, the weight of their painful past hanging in the air.
In the computer room, Kael, Ryker, and Jax watched the scene unfold on the monitor, their faces filled with shock and sadness.
Ava's expression turned cold, but her voice was laced with a hint of sadness. "You will be staying in this room for a while, Elara. And I will be coming to check on you regularly."
Dr. Elara nodded, her eyes still filled with tears. "I understand, Ava. I do not expect any special treatment."
Ava's gaze lingered on Dr. Elara's face for a moment before she turned to leave. "I will be back soon, Elara. And we will talk more about the past...and the present."
With that, Ava exited the room, leaving Dr. Elara alone with her thoughts.
In the computer room, Kael, Ryker, and Jax watched as Ava entered, her face still etched with emotions.
"She is taking this hard," Ryker commented.
Kael nodded. "Ava and Dr. Elara have a lot of history. And it is clear that Ava is still hurt by what happened."
Jax's eyes narrowed. "But Ava's also determined to get to the truth. And she won't stop until she uncovers everything."
In the divison, director Arlo stormed out of the briefing room, his face red with anger. Lieutenant krieg and Agent Nova followed close behind, their expressions equally grim.
"Has anyone seen Dr. Elara?" Commander Arlo demanded, his voice echoing down the hallway.
The agents and scientists they passed shook their heads, unsure of what to say.
Director Arlo's eyes narrowed. "Her car is still outside. She must be here somewhere."
He stopped in front of Rachel and Amari, who were standing by the water cooler. "If either of you see her, I want to know immediately. Do I make myself clear?"
Rachel and Amari exchanged a nervous glance before nodding. "Yes, sir," they said in unison.
Director Arlo's gaze lingered on them for a moment before he turned and continued down the hallway, his entourage following close behind.
Rachel let out a sigh as soon as they were out of earshot. "This is not good. Dr. Elara is in serious trouble."
Amari nodded in agreement. "We need to find her before Commander Arlo does. For her own safety."
Rachel and Amari exchanged a determined glance, their minds racing with ways to find Dr. Elara before it was too late.
In the sanctuary safehouse, Ava, Kael, Ryker, and Jax gathered around the computer, their eyes fixed on the screen as Lena pulled up a file.
"Who is our next target?" Ava asked, her voice firm
Lena hesitated before answering. "Agent Nova."
The team exchanged glances
Lena continued to brief the team on Agent Nova. "She is a top-notch agent, known for her sharp instincts and unwavering dedication to justice. She has been with the Division for over a decade, and has a reputation for being fearless and relentless in her pursuit of the truth."
Kael nodded, his eyes narrowing. "I have heard of her. She is the one who took down the Red Hand cartel last year."
Ryker whistled. "That was a big takedown. I am impressed."
Lena's expression turned serious. "Don't be impressed. Agent Nova is a formidable opponent, and she won't go down without a fight. We need to be careful if we are going to take her out."
Jax rubbed his hands together. "I love a good challenge. Let's get to work."
Ava's eyes locked onto Lena. "What's Agent Nova's schedule like? When and where can we expect to find her?"
Lena pulled up a calendar on the screen. "She has been working late nights at the Division's headquarters, trying to crack the case of the assassin. We can expect to find her there, alone, around midnight."
The team nodded, their faces set with determination. They knew the risks, but they were ready to take down Agent Nova.
Meanwhile in the division, Rachel frowned, her brow furrowed in concern. "I do not understand why Dr. Elara would just disappear like this. She has always been so dedicated to her work."
Amari nodded in agreement. "And she's always been so careful. I have never known her to take unnecessary risks."
Rachel's eyes narrowed. "That's what's bothering me. She would not just leave without a word, not unless something was wrong."
Amari's expression turned grim. "You think something's happened to her?"
Rachel hesitated before answering. "I don't know, but I have a bad feeling about this. We need to find her, Amari. We need to make sure she is okay."
Amari nodded, his jaw clenched. "We will, Rachel. We will find her, no matter what it takes."
Through out the day, kael and others were preparing everything necessary for the mission, they planned to strike at midnight. The day was getting darker and when it is exactly 12am, they decided to carry on.
Kael was dressed in his usual attire with his katana at his back, Jax got the car ready, Ryker with his sniper as usual. They made their way out of the sanctuary safe house and they splitted as usual when they almost get to the facility.
Kael crouched in the shadows, his eyes fixed on the facility across the street. He checked his watch for what felt like the hundredth time, the glow of the midnight hour casting an eerie light on his face.
"Time to get to work," he whispered to himself.
He adjusted his gear, his movements swift and silent, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Kael took a deep breath, his heart rate steady. He had done this countless times before, but he never got complacent. He knew the risks, and he knew the stakes.
With a swift motion, he sprang into action, darting across the street and into the facility. His eyes scanned the corridors, his senses on high alert.
Agent Nova was close. He could feel it.
Agent Nova while working in her office heard some sounds in the corridor. Agent Nova stepped out of her office, her eyes scanning the dimly lit corridor. She had heard a faint noise, like the soft rustle of fabric, and her instincts told her something was off.
She moved quietly, her hand resting on the grip of her gun. The corridor was deserted, the only sound the soft hum of the fluorescent lights overhead.
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the darkness, swift and silent. Agent Nova didn't see Kael until it was too late.
He struck her from behind, his arm wrapping around her throat, his hand clamping over her mouth. Agent Nova struggled, but Kael's grip was too strong.
She tried to reach for her gun, but Kael's other hand grasped her wrist, twisting it painfully. Agent Nova's eyes widened as she felt herself being dragged back into the shadows.
Agent Nova's eyes fluttered closed as she felt herself being pulled deeper into the shadows. She tried to struggle, but Kael's grip was too strong. She was trapped.
Just as suddenly as it has begun, she became unconscious and Jael dropped her one the floor at the end of the corridor.
Kael's eyes flashed with a deadly intensity as he gazed down at Agent Nova. He knew he had to finish the job, and fast.
With a swift motion, he drew his sword from its back. The blade glinted in the dim light, its edge razor-sharp.
Kael raised the blade, his arm muscles tensing for the strike. With a swift, deadly motion, he brought the sword down, plunging it deep into Agent Nova's chest. She let out a faint gasp, her eyes frozen in shock.
Kael twisted the blade, ensuring a quick and fatal wound. Agent Nova's body slumped, her life slipping away.
The scene ended with Kael standing over Agent Nova's lifeless body, his sword still lodged in her chest, his eyes cold and unyielding. He had completed his mission, and now he would disappear into the night.
Kael pulled his sword out of Agent Nova's chest, the blade slick with blood. He wiped it clean on his pant leg, his movements swift and efficient.
He stood up, his eyes scanning the room one last time. He knew he had to leave, and fast. The authorities would be alerted soon, and he didn't want to be caught in the vicinity.
With a final glance at Agent Nova's lifeless body, Kael turned and disappeared into the shadows. He melted into the night, his footsteps silent as he vanished into the darkness.
Meanwhile, in a distant location, a figure watched Kael's escape from a rooftop. The figure's eyes narrowed, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.
