Chapter 85: Memories 4
"He was one of those guys."
Even though the guard spoke in a low voice, his words still echoed throughout the corridor.
All the jail cells suddenly became quiet, and then, in the very instant, they erupted in unison.
"Haha, a new show is about to begin."
"Come on, bet on how many days this one survives."
"Less than one day, and I bet my special magazine."
"Two days, I bet my new shoes."
"Haha, I bet five days. Those guys will surely enjoy the new meat."
Before Xane could understand, he heard a sound behind his back.
He turned and saw in shock that all five of them had stood up and started walking toward him.
Xane shrank down in fear, but not caring about him, the one who looked like the leader asked the guard, "What is the case?"
The guard said with a smile, "Accused of assaulting his classmate."
Xane instantly erupted. "That's a false accusation!" But his voice just disappeared in the surrounding madness.
The five of them seemed not to care and just stared at him up and down.
He felt a creep down his spine when all of them walked next to him.
At this moment, the guard said from the side, "Keep it moderate. It's a high-profile case, we have to show him in court next week."
All five of them nodded in unison, like they were used to it. They stopped caring about the guard and just crouched down next to him.
Xane stared in terror as their actions matched perfectly.
He instantly felt that whatever they were up to, it was not their first time.
The leader, who should be around his age, asked him, "What's your name?"
Xane was surprised at how his voice switched from a hard tone to a sweet, soft tone in an instant.
It was like he was talking with a long-lost friend. He looked up and saw the leader smiling at him. "Oh, don't be afraid. We are going to live here for a long time, don't you think it's better if we know each other? By the way, I am Roan."
Xane stared with wide eyes when he saw Roan extending his hand for a handshake.
The pressure he felt earlier completely disappeared.
Then, one after another, the other four also introduced their names, all waiting for him.
Xane was at a loss for words, but not wanting to offend them, he calmly grabbed Roan's hand. "Hello, I am Xane."
Roan shook his hand with enthusiasm and asked with interest, "So, Xane, what's your story?"
Xane didn't understand if it was fear or because he hadn't talked to anyone for the last couple of days, he just started pouring everything out to Roan.
From how some policemen came to school to arrest him, to how nobody believed him, and how the accusations against him were baseless.
Without realizing it, even tears started to seep out of his eyes as he told them how his dream of becoming a policeman had shattered because of this accusation.
How even his friends and family looked at him differently. How his mother didn't even look him in the eyes.
It was like the gateway of a massive dam being opened as all the emotions poured out.
He even recounted how he did not even know who had accused him.
After pouring everything, Xane felt calm, like a heavy burden had been relieved from his heart, but that was when he realized that all this while he was still clenching Roan's hand.
As he thought about how he had cried while holding Roan's hand, he turned red and loosened his grip. He tried to pull his hand away, but at that moment, Roan actually grabbed his hand.
Xane was confused and looked up, only to freeze when he saw all five of them were smiling at him.
Not only that, but even a few others in the nearby cells were laughing at him.
He started sweating as he realized no one here actually cared about his sad story. For them, it was just entertainment.
Just then, Roan started increasing his grip strength.
At first, Xane did nothing, but then he started feeling pain.
He tried to pull his hand back, but even though Roan looked much skinnier than him, he was actually much stronger.
It was like the guy was toying with him as he spoke in this erratic tone. "Why do all of you guys have the same story?"
Xane desperately pleaded, "No, I am telling you the truth."
Roan exaggeratedly nodded his head. "Sure, sure, I believe your truth. Now, shouldn't you deserve a reward for this truth?"
Before Xane could respond, the four others in the cell all said one after another.
"Yeah, it is a reward-worthy performance."
"Oh, I even cried during the performance."
"Sharing dreams… haha, it sure was an Oscar-worthy performance."
"Reward, let me give him a reward."
It wasn't just them. Even those in other cells slowly started chanting. "Reward, reward, reward."
Xane heard loud stomping sounds and chants, but his entire focus was on his hand.
The pain through his wrist reached so high that tears started forming in his eyes, and he desperately pleaded, "Please believe me, I am innocent."
Roan just smiled at him and then glanced at the others.
Before Xane could understand, all four rushed and got hold of him from the back.
Just then, Roan, with an extra-wide smile, said, "Nice to meet you, Xane." The very next moment, he snapped his hand.
It took a moment to register before Xane screamed at the top of his lungs.
"Aaaaaaahhhhh!"
He looked down and saw that Roan had twisted his wrist at an unruly angle.
Not stopping there, Roan next pulled his hair and then ruthlessly, one after another, started pounding on his face.
Pat!
"Haha!"
Pat!
"Here's your reward."
Pat!
"Hope you're liking it."
Pat!
Each of the slaps felt like a hammer smashing his face.
Xane wanted to scream, but before he could, another slap landed on his mouth.
This was the first time in his life that Xane experienced such excruciating pain.
He tried his best to wiggle away, but he was just too weak.
That was just the start. As time went on, once Roan got tired, he switched places with the other guys, who switched to punches.
By then, Xane just lay on the hard floor while the other three started kicking him in the face. Soon, he felt multiple people kicking all over his body.
He screamed at them, begged them to stop.
In desperation, he even grabbed Roan's leg and went as far as kissing his feet, but that guy just laughed at him and continued pouring out all his anger on him.
With time, the torture continued to increase.
For the next few days, everyone heard spine-chilling screams coming from that cell.
That only made the others more excited, as it was like a tonic to their ears.
This continued until finally, the same guard walked back to the cell again on the 7th day.
