The Cursed Extra: Twin Souls Against the World

Chapter 83: Memory 2

The moment Xane recognised them, he paused.

For a fleeting moment, he thought it was some pauper, but as he looked around and saw that there was an entire squad of five people present in the office, he calmed down.

After all, it was one thing for one person to impersonate a fake policeman, but for an entire squad of them, that should not be possible.

Even though he calmed down for a bit, just then it struck Xane that this entire squad was actually here for him. But why?

The unknown caused fear, and in this fear, he said to them. "Sir, I think there is a misunderstanding. I did not commit any crime."

The leading officer smiled sarcastically. "Boy, every criminal after getting caught says the same thing. Be more creative at least."

Xane's face turned pale as he shook his head. "No, you must be mistaken. I am not that kind of person."

Another police officer started roaming his hands through his body. He knew it was a common procedure, but knowing one thing and experiencing another were different.

As they rummaged through his clothes, he tried to wiggle out and even shouted, "Principal, ma'am, please help me. You know I-"

The principal hysterically shouted at him. "You vile demon, shut your mouth. Officers, please drag this demon away from my school."

Those words dropped on him like a hammer as tears formed in his eyes.

He begged the men in blue, "Officer, please… You have to believe me. I did nothing to deserve this. Please, somebody help…"

Even though he desperately begged the adults, all of them turned a deaf ear.

The police officers just placed the handcuffs on him and started dragging him out.

Before he could say any more, the lead officer once again threatened him, which made him quietly comply with their orders.

As he walked out of the school building, he shivered when he felt hundreds and thousands of gazes on him.

From the corner of his eye, he saw students and teachers piled around the windows, all staring at him with judging eyes.

The pressure from those gazes was so much that Xane just lowered his head, desperately trying to hide his face.

He was doing his best not to let anybody see his face, but the officer behind him seemed to have different plans as he suddenly pulled on his cuff.

The sudden movement was so harsh that he lifted his head to maintain his balance, and that was when he saw the full scale of those eyes.

It was like a cover being pulled. It hit him that by now everyone, from the teachers to the juniors, his classmates, seniors, and even his friends, all knew the truth.

The truth was that the policemen had come for him.

At that moment, Xane felt cracks had started forming in his mind that was about to shatter his dream.

It instantly hit him that if he did not resolve this accusation, it might be the end of his dream.

Fear gripped his chest, but then everything he had learned about the police and the law flashed through his mind.

He knew that laws were made to protect the weak.

For sure, this false accusation against him would be resolved soon.

Even though he knew things might not be the same, he still had hope in his heroes.

Not long after, Xane found himself behind jail bars.

It wasn't long before the leading officer slowly entered his cell.

Xane wasted no time and cried to him, "Sir, please, you have to believe me. I did not commit any crime…"

Before he could continue, he heard a loud thump before him.

He looked up in shock and saw a thick wooden stick in the officer's hand.

The officer just tapped it on the ground and said in a cold tone, "Xane, it is my duty to investigate. If you are confident of your innocence, then you should not fear this. I heard your father is also in the police, so you must have a clue how things work."

Xane shrank in fear for a bit, but at the mention of his father, he regained his confidence. Right, his father was one of the true heroes. He would definitely help him.

Xane nodded to the officer. "I will cooperate, sir."

The head officer laughed and placed a wooden chair just before him. He calmly sat in front of Xane and asked, "Well, you just have to answer a few of my questions."

Xane nodded. "Yes, sir."

"Good. First question, did you attend school yesterday?"

Xane nodded with confidence and kept it short. "Yes, sir."

The officer took out a notebook and wrote it down.

Xane knew it was just for show, as his father had told him in the past that each jail cell already had hidden microphones that recorded all conversations between prisoners. Still, he did not point it out.

The officer calmly asked, "What did you do after school ended?"

Xane thought for a bit, remembering staying extra late in class for his assignment. He recounted everything to the officer.

Next, the officer took out multiple pictures from his pocket and started asking him if he knew anyone among them.

Most of those pictures were of his friends, his teachers, and a couple of classmates.

He nodded to everyone. Even though he personally did not know most of them, being part of the same class meant he knew basic details about them.

Next, the officer started asking him about all the people he had met after school.

Except for the incident where he saved a guy from being bullied, there was nothing special.

Xane did not hide anything. With the information given, the police officer walked away.

Even though Xane was fearful about his future, his belief in his heroes still made him keep his composure.

In the next few days, his family and friends all came to meet him. He was very grateful that all of them told him they believed in him.

It was just, for odd reasons, all of them, one way or another, hinted to him not to hide anything from the police.

Also, no matter how much he asked, none of them ever mentioned the charges against him.

Soon, a couple of days passed, and it was finally time for him to see the local judge.

Although they captured him, they did not label him a criminal, so he was still in his school uniform when he arrived before the courtroom.

But to his shock, the moment he stepped out of the police van, hundreds of cameras flashed before him, leaving him rooted in place.

The moment he saw that, an awful premonition rose in his heart, but then he saw his family in the corner.

This made him a bit relieved as he slowly dragged himself toward the courthouse.
