The Cursed Extra: Twin Souls Against the World

Chapter 51: The rain after drought

Xane slowly walked to his room, all while seething in anger. He looked at his shaking right hand and screamed. "Fck, why the hell did I stop training?"

This burst out shocked Zayn. This was the first time he had seen Xane this serious.

Zayn said in a low tone. [Xane, calm down. You know that even if we have trained day and night, we will still be no match for hex art.]

Xane looked up and the evening sky. The slight cool breeze on his face helped him calm a bit.

He rubbed his eyes and questioned himself. <Why hell did I react like that?>

Zayn asked in confusion. [What happened?]

Xane thought about everything in the canteen. 'It was so unlike me. From when do I even start caring about saving my face? Did that Samule guy use some mind control hex art on me?'

After reading that entire file about different core hex art, he knew there were hex arts that could manipulate other emotions.

The more Xane thought about it, the more he felt that it was not Samule but something else. It was just that he could put his finger on how and who was manipulating him.

Zayn asked in concern. [Dude, are you alright? Man, everything was going so well until that fcker messed with everything.]

Xane thought about telling Zayn, but then he chose not to. The only reason Xane even noticed this change was because of his habit of self-assessment.

It was something he started doing during his days inside the darkness of those cells. He did not want to explain any of that right now.

Also, it would be better to see if something like this repeats or not.

So Xane just nodded along. <Yeah, where the hell did that guy come from?>

Zayn said in a low tone. [I don't know, but he was openly hostile toward us. It was like he just didn't want us to interact, Liam.]

Xane spat on the side and said, <Fck it, Zayn. Let's forget about this protagonist of yours for now. I don't want to be a dog that wags its tail for someone's attention.>

Zayn sighed. [Dude, don't rush like that. You know Liam didn't share the same feelings toward us.]

Xane took a deep breath as he rubbed his shoulder. <Forget it. At least we know this Samuel guy is also using some kind of physical hex art.>

[Yeah. It's a relief that Liam was doing the same stuff as in the novel. Nothing much changed about that.]

Xane nodded. <Yeah, but none of this information matters until we solve our problem.>

Xane suddenly stopped walking and asked, <Hey Zayn, you said that all three ancient cursed lands had similar cursed properties, right?>

[I mean, they all produce fogs, which target different stuff.]

<Yeah, so what about this Samuel guy? How do you think he's dealing with the fog?>

Zayn thought for a bit and said, [I don't remember the fog's name, but I'm sure it targets the souls in hex cores linked to the cursed land of space cases.]

<Oh, mind, body, and then soul.>

[Yeah, and to be true, Xane, I don't think Samuel will have any difficulty at all. From what I know, everyone linked to the cursed land of space has some kind of spatial hex skill.]

[There are a lot of hex arts that allow the hex master to transfer the fog using those spatial skills. I think it's the same for Samuel.]

Xane asked in surprise. <Wait, doesn't that mean those from the cursed land of space have no cursed property at all?>

Zayn mentally shook his head. [I'm not sure. But I do believe they still have to be careful about the amount of hex energy they can use at a time. It's not like the broken instant ability that Liam possesses.]

Xane just clicked his tongue. <Fck, so it's only us who are suffering the most.>

Zayn just said nothing as they finally reached their dorm.

Xane was super tired from all the stuff that had happened today, so he rushed to his room and jumped straight onto his bed.

The moment his head hit the soft pillow, dreamland swallowed him, and he started snoring.

At the same time, inside a three-room dorm, Melina crushed the paper in her hand in anger. "Viy, how could you try to mess with those two? How dare you try to come in my way?"

Another red-haired student standing behind her took a few steps back in fear.

Melina turned to Jake and said in an indifferent tone, "I want you to drag him here."

Jake said while shaking, "Miss, we have to be careful. I don't want to face any repercussions because of a lowlife. Big Miss won't like that."

Melina seethed in anger at the first sentence, but when she heard the entire thing, she calmed down. Even though she hated it, she knew Jake was not wrong.

She started walking around the room, all while thinking of the best way to deal with her brother.

Jake saw her pacing back and forth in tension.

For Viyron to ignore Big Mam's plan was one thing… but to sabotage the Zenaris family's name before those two? That was unforgivable.

Viyron, you leech… you've gone too far.

Melina stopped, her expression turning coldly amused. "Spread the word that Viyron has stopped following family orders."

Jake tilted his head. "Anything else, Miss?"

She waved him off. "No. Go."

He left quickly, still unsure how gossip would hurt Viyron, but it wasn't his place to question her.

Melina turned to the window, a wide smile creeping across her face.

She wasn't the only one who had a problem with her brother. Watching that guy burn her brother would be… entertaining.

Just like any other day, Xane woke up early in the morning. He rushed to get ready, and to his surprise, he also saw two of his roommates following behind him.

It looked like the hex masters had also selected them.

Not thinking much about them, Xane rushed to the lab, and soon he walked into the office.

Xane bowed to his mentor. "Good morning, sir."

Xenor smiled at him. "Good morning. Are you ready for your fourth attempt?"

Xane nodded with enthusiasm. "Yup."

Xenor got up from his seat, and both of them wasted no time moving down to the metal hall.

Zayn said in his head, [Hey, this time let's check one of the sides that had no grey dot at all.]

<Oh? Which one?>

[Let's go to the opposite side this time.]

Xane grabbed the hex art and nodded. <Sure.>

With that, he ripped the paper in two.

Time passed, and after a long while, Xane opened his eyes back in the metal hall.

He lifelessly looked around. But he didn't see his mentor. Did his mentor already give up on them? He was just so worn out that he didn't think much of it.

He walked back to the platform and, to his surprise, saw another hex art there. Dropping down onto the platform, he lost consciousness.

A few hours later, he got up and walked back to the circle in a lifeless state.

He asked in a low tone, "Which side?"

Zayn said in a blank tone, [Let's pick the top.]

Not wasting a moment, Xane ripped the paper in half as the smoke once again engulfed him.

Once the smoke disappeared, Zayn opened his eyes and started laughing. "Hahaha, finally."

Xane also laughed in his mind. [We finally found the treasure trove, man. I can't believe there were so many grey dots at the top. How the hell does it take us so long?]

Zayn sighed as he still could not believe the top part of the projection plane just had so many greys that he could not check all of them.

This felt like rain after a long drought.

At this moment, he heard, cold voice. "My student, did you succeed?"

Zayn looked up in surprise as he saw Xenor standing there. It was just that his mentor did not look that happy right now.

Zayn pushed himself to sit down, and then, suppressing his happiness, he shook his head. "No, sir."

Xenor stared into his eyes and said in a cold tone. "I think we need to talk. Let's talk in my office."

Zayn gulped and nodded. He started following Xenor in the silence.

Xane also said, [Oh no, looks like your celebration had triggered this guy.]

<I think I messed up.>
