The Cursed Extra: Twin Souls Against the World

Chapter 50: The first encounter

Xane was stuffing food into his mouth like a starved demon. He was eating a special meal full of beast meat and grains.

This world's food had a distinct taste to it, which he had started to love over time.

Every bite of that meat dish felt like he was drinking some kind of healing potion.

The effect of the food was immediate, and even his headache diminished a bit.

Just then, Zayn interrupted him. [Hey, look ahead.]

Xane stuffed another spoonful of grain into his mouth and looked up in annoyance, only to see Liam and Samule sitting just a table in front of him.

He had been so hungry earlier that he hadn't even noticed them.

Looking around, he saw that the canteen was mostly empty, as it was still early evening, and very few had come to eat their dinner this early.

He wasted no time and got up.

Zayn looked at the half-empty plate and asked in confusion, [Why are you standing up?]

Xane picked up the plate and motioned toward the duo. < Don't you think this is the perfect time to gain some clarity?>

[Wait, don't tell me you're going to talk with them? What are you even going to say to him?]

<Geez, just how sheltered a life have you lived for you to think so much about talking to someone?>

Zayn gave him a hollow laugh. [Hah, I wish that were true.]

Xane paused for a bit, realizing he had hit on someone's painful memory.

He took a deep breath and said, <Zayn, I don't mind hearing your backstory, but I don't think this is the time for that.>

With that, he walked over to Liam and Samule.

The moment they saw him, both of them stopped eating and looked up in confusion.

Zayn stopped thinking about his past and focused on Xane. He wanted to see how Xane would interact with them.

To his surprise, Xane just placed down his food and sat before them unceremoniously.

Both Liam and Samule shared the same reaction as Zayn.

Not caring about the internal and external judgment he was getting, Xane took a sip of soup and then said with a wide smile, "Hello, I am Viyron. Nice to meet you, Liam."

He was about to extend his right hand, but after seeing the grease, he switched to his clean left hand.

Liam just looked at him, then at his hand. It was a bit awkward for a moment until Samule grabbed his hand. "Nice to meet you, Zenaris."

Xane looked at Samule with interest. This guy's way of greeting was a little interesting. Still not wanting to linger on it, he said, "Nice to meet you, Samule."

After Samuel, Liam also followed. "Nice to meet you, Viyron."

Xane nodded to him and once again said to Liam, "By the way, I'm very happy that I finally got the chance to meet you guys."

Samuel tilted his head. "Oh? Why do you want to meet us?"

Xane stuffed a spoon into his mouth and exaggeratedly nodded his head.

He swallowed the food quickly and said, "I mean, you guys are practically legends in the making. Of course, since we're in the same class, I wanted to meet you at least once."

For the first time, Liam asked with interest, "Wait, so you're in Class 2?"

Xane nodded as he steered the conversation toward their instructor. "Yup. By the way, I love Instructor Luna's lectures. She's a beauty with brains."

Liam nodded enthusiastically. "Haha, I also think the same."

Xane looked at Liam and asked, "By the way, do you know I saw her name in the mentor selection list? Too bad her name disappeared before I could apply. Some lucky guy must have selected her before others."

Liam looked down and scratched his head. "Cough… yeah."

Xane could see Liam's face going a bit redder.

Zayn watched in astonishment at how Xane used the bit of information he'd told him about Liam, and it was actually working.

He never thought it would be that simple.

Xane asked with interest, "Oh, by the way, what type of hex art are you interested in, Liam?"

Liam was about to speak when Samule cut in. "By the way, what is your potential, Zenaris?"

Xane was stunned by the question. He never thought the protagonist could be so interested in someone's potential. But then he saw that Liam was equally surprised.

So, it wasn't Liam who was interested in potential.

Xane decided to try to trigger some sympathy. He looked down at his food and said in a low tone, "I just have silver potential."

Liam nodded and even said some encouraging words. "Oh, don't worry. Didn't you hear Miss Luna say that those with low potential can still compete with others? I believe anyone could be a good hex master if they work hard."

Liam smiled at him. "Just believe in yourself, Viyron."

Xane stared in awe.

He felt an aura around Liam that made all the words coming out of his mouth hit harder. 'Shit, is that protagonist aura?'

Xane forced himself out of this state and nodded his head. "Yeah, I will try—"

But just then, Samule cut him off. "So, Zenaris, why are you keeping an eye on Liam? Didn't you know it's a bad habit?"

Xane looked up and tilted his head. "What do you mean? I never stalk Liam."

Even Liam said, "Hey Sam, I think you're being paranoid."

Samuel smiled at Liam and said, "Hah, Liam, don't be stupid. Do you think he randomly mentioned Miss Luna? He must have known that."

The moment Samule said those words, Xane saw a shift in Liam's gaze. He could see the flicker of doubt in Liam's eyes.

Liam stared at him in silence for a couple of minutes. Then, he just picked up his food and walked away in silence.

Xane stared at his back in shock. He couldn't believe that one moment everything was going so smoothly, and the next, it was just disaster.

Just then, he felt a hand on his shoulder.

He saw Samule leaning next to him with a smile. "Little Zenaris, I don't know which group of Zenaris you're part of, but why don't you leave my friend alone? I hope you stop stalking my friend."

Xane felt the grip on his shoulder increasing. He felt like his shoulder would break at any moment. A bit more, and his collarbone might get shattered into pieces.

Xane clenched his teeth as he looked at Samule.

Samule raised his eyebrow and increased the force. It was to the point that even his back started bending.

Zayn shouted in his head. [Dude, what are you doing? We can afford to suffer a big injury.]

Xane cursed internally as he knew Zayn was right.

Even though it was humiliating, Xane just swallowed his pride and nodded his head. "I will leave you alone."

Samule patted his shoulder like he was his pet. "Good boy."

Just then, Liam shouted from the back, "Sam, let go! I already have enough."

Samuel just stared into Xane's eyes for one last moment, then walked away.

Xane just sat there staring at Samule's back. The pressure from earlier caused his right hand to shake uncontrollably.

He could sense multiple pairs of eyes on him. This was bad. Not wanting to attract more attention, he stuffed the leftover food into his mouth and walked out of the canteen through a different door.
