The Cursed Extra: Twin Souls Against the World

Chapter 52: The true self

Inside the office, Zayn stood before Xenor in silence.

Xenor kept staring at him in silence. This version of his mentor was completely different from the act he had been putting on earlier.

Zayn could sense the pressure coming from him. It was like his mentor had decided to drop the earlier act altogether.

Xane said in his head, [We might be seeing the real person now.]

Zayn just mentally nodded, not daring to look up into Xenor's eyes.

He knew from the novel that nothing was stopping a hex master from attacking their student.

He didn't want to agitate his mentor in any way.

After what felt like an eternity, Xenor finally broke the silence. "So, how many times have you used the rune ritual so far?"

Zayn glanced down at some random paper before him and mumbled, "It's the fifth time."

Xenor started tapping on the table and said in a cold tone, "Do you know the cost of using the rune?"

Zayn thought for a bit and said, "Sir, you told me that each hex art costs 3 points."

Xenor rubbed his eyes. "That was just the cost of the hex art. That did not include the operating cost of the ritual circle."

Xenor sighed and asked, "Did you not find any mid-purity world, Viyron?"

Xane shouted in his mind, [Zayn, just look into his eyes and shake your head. Don't keep looking down.]

Zayn didn't understand Xane's reasoning, but he knew his own weakness.

Because of his isolated past life, he lacked social skills, so he just followed Xane's words.

He looked straight into Xenor's eyes and said with utmost seriousness, "Sir, I did not find any world anywhere close to what I am looking for."

Xenor stared back at him and asked, "Are there more chaos worlds that you still haven't checked?"

Zayn took a deep breath and decided to reveal what Xenor wanted to hear. "Sir, actually, on my second to fourth attempts, I spent most of my time finding chaos worlds."

Xenor raised his eyebrow. "What about this last attempt? Did you manage to find any world?"

Zayn nodded. "Yes, sir. This time, I found a cluster of grey worlds. It's just too bad I was thrown out of the projection plane before I could check any of them."

Xenor clicked his tongue. "That makes them useless, then. Even if you try again, you will be thrown out. Those worlds are outside your mental endurance, Viyron."

Zayn tilted his head in confusion when Xane said in his head, [Oh shit. Zayn, Xenor is talking about the normal way.]

Zayn almost slapped his head. He had gotten so used to the new method that he forgot his earlier attempts.

To salvage the situation, he said, "Sir, but I do believe I could find other grey dots. I just have to go to the projection plane a couple more times."

Xenor shook his head. "No, that won't do. Viyron, I know it's hard, but I think you should accept reality and just form a link with another world."

Zayn stood up in panic. "Sir, please, no. You know there's no point in linking with any of those worlds. I want to follow your path."

Xenor looked up at him.

Zayn could see the struggle in his mentor's eyes. But after a few seconds of thought, his mentor sighed. "I know it's hard to accept reality, but don't worry. Being linked to a low-purity world does not mean the end of it."

<Fck!!> Zayn screamed in his head. He could see the door to his survival closing.

He was so deep in this swamp that he couldn't even go back and try another method.

If he was going to die anyway, he decided to take the risk and provoke his mentor.

He looked into his mentor's eyes and asked, "Sir, if points are the issue, then just tell me how many points I need to use the ritual."

Xenor stopped tapping on the table and smiled. "It's not about the reward points, my student."

Zayn didn't back down and stated his decision. "Sir, no matter what happens, I won't settle for a low-purity world. There's no point in that. So—"

Xenor shook his head, took out his glass pen, and started scribbling on a page. "Don't argue with me." He handed him the new paper. "Here. This is the last hex art. I won't give you any more hex arts."

Zayn picked up the paper and said, "So this thing costs 3 points, right? What is the cost of operating the ritual circle? Just tell me, I will pay for it."

Xenor crushed the glass pen in his hand and stood up.

The very next moment, a wave of hex energy hit Zayn.

The world around him changed, and he found himself in a pit full of monsters.

Zayn knew this was some kind of illusion hex art.

He decided to push forward and shouted, "I am ready to pay for everything. What's the problem now?"

The surrounding creatures didn't take it positively as they rushed toward him. Zayn didn't bother to dodge, but the very next moment, a dog-like creature ripped off his arm.

The world around Zayn suddenly turned red, and he screamed in pain. "Ahaaaaa!"

He looked down at his missing arm in fear. A large amount of blood started dripping from it.

He grabbed it with his other hand when he felt hot breath next to his neck.

He looked to the side in horror and saw that this massive maw was inches from his neck.

He tried to move to the side, only for the beast to latch onto his shoulder.

He tried his best to shake off the beast, but then he heard a loud crunching sound.

He looked down in horror as the beast had just torn out a big chunk of his flesh.

Before Zayn could even scream, another maw bit into his calf.

This caused him to fall to the ground, and what happened next was straight out of a horror movie.

Hundreds of beasts rushed to bite chunks of flesh off him.

He wanted to scream, but for some reason, he had lost his voice.

The rotten stench mixed with the smell of blood surrounded him.

It wasn't long before a sharp claw poked his left eyeball. He sensed the end was near, but the pain just continued to increase.

He felt his ribs crushing under some creature's weight. The beasts were munching on his innards while they were still attached to his body.

At the end of the nightmare, he felt teeth across his head. He could feel the beast closing its mouth.

Crunch.

With a loud skull-crushing sound, everything went blank around him.

The next moment, he opened his eyes back in the office.

Xenor asked him with a smile. "Do you have anything to say, my student?"
