Chapter 97: Target Acquired 2
Quagmire, using the force of the momentum, pushed himself forward, and increased the distance between himself and the mist ghoul, leaving the ghoul in the dust. Seeing the increasing distance between itself and its prey, the mist ghoul screeched in frustration, and with a force of a thunder, it kicked the ghoul that crashed off the side.,
The ghoul struck the wall and became a painting, along with its organs decorating the sides and pavements. The mist ghoul lowered itself and started running on all fours, seeking to catch up to Quagmire.
Quagmire glanced at his back and was bewildered at the increasing speed of the mist ghoul. He had the grenade at his side, but he couldn't find the perfect opportunity for it. The reason is that; the grenade is a stick grenade, and unwrapping it takes valuable time, and what if he was ambushed while unwrapping? It would be disastrous.
After calculating the time it would take for the mist ghoul to catch up to him, he faced forward and was once again shocked. Numerous ghouls came forward at him; the point is they were carrying bows. There is no time to think, and so he grabbed the grenade, unwrapped it as fast as he could, and before the ghouls could shoot at him.
Once the stick grenade was unwrapped, he threw it behind, and a massive fiery explosion erupted after a few moments. With a swift reaction, he leaped and rolled over into the nearby clearing of wooden junk.
Upon landing behind the junk, multiple thuds erupted just before him, and as the smoke from the explosion subsided, not wanting to give his enemies opportunities, he immediately glanced up and aimed his pistol.
Up above, he saw five ghouls on the rooftops with bows, and two ghouls with swords and shields on the ground. As time was ticking, he pursued the three ghouls at his right, and with three quick pull of the trigger and some minimal movements of the hands, all three ghouls were shot and killed.
Upon seeing the three ghouls killed, the four ghouls in front of him erupted in anger and frustration. The two sword ghouls started to advance toward him.
He aimed at two ghouls, but his instincts screamed at him that there was something wrong. Fully alert in mind, he immediately responded and glanced behind him. His eyes dilated in shock, and his mouth was left agape. He finally saw the true form of the mist ghoul. It was rather simple and underwhelming.
It was like any other ghoul, but with glowing red eyes that pierced through the mist. Which means the mist is nothing but an intimidating presence. However, the strength and speed it exerted cannot be underestimated.
One must not judge others by their looks; there are a lot of people who have died under the wrong assumptions after all. Which is nothing but a cruel turn of events, it was as if fate was mocking the person.
Thus, with a decision, he made the choice that he still needs to get far away, he just cannot risk it, if he fought immediately with the mist ghoul, then that would mean more ghouls would be able to encircle him, just like his current situation.
With a decisive action, he placed his hands on the wooden furniture in his front, and using the force of his core and uppers muscles, he leaped over to the other side. However, he was prepared, as his pistol was already aimed, and once he was able to land on the ground, with swift and precise movements. Two ghouls in the rooftops were immediately shot.
Wasting no time, he charged at the two sword ghouls. The ghouls saw this and placed their shield in front and blocked the middle, with a slight inclination on the sides. Quagmire charged through, but as the ghouls placed their shield down in anticipation, he changed direction and leaped over to the side.
With the force of his feet, he jumped and ran through the side wall for a few moments, which was completely enough for him to be able to bypass the sword and shield ghouls that were blocking his way. Not only that, with a twirl of his mouth, a smirk formed ever slightly.
After all, before he was even able to do it, he already had a plan. Just before he was able to land, along with his dextrous hands, he had already stashed the pistol mid-air, and just as he was about to land, an unwrapped grenade was already in his hands.
Time started ticking, and as he glanced at the ghouls, his eyes turned with glee. The mist ghoul was behind them, and so with a smirk he let go of the grenade and a fiery explosion soon followed.
Once the dust cleared up, he waited for a few moments, and when the body of the mist ghoul came up, he shot it another two times in the head; that is just how much hatred he had for that specific ghoul. After all, it was the one that almost made himself crap his pants. Which is unbecoming and intolerable.
Quagmire, despite his initial inclinations, has started to show changes, becoming more like what an emperor should or shouldn't, may fate ever decide it.
Upon seeing that they are all dead, he quickly turns around, and dashed out from street to street. Though he had lost his major problem, he would need to lose more of his pursuers while dwindling down their numbers. After that, he would need to continue placing explosives discreetly.
Which, according to his assumptions, would be much easier, since the one that held a grudge against him is now dead. Furthermore, thinking about it, it seemed like the intelligence of these ghouls had grown exponentially.
It seemed the place he arrived at was to lead him into a false sense of safety, but he cannot assume any of it, after all, could negatively affect his thinking and perspective, which is a big no.
