Chapter 98: Street To Streets

Quagmire, with the force of his foot, twisted it in another direction, thereby turning and moving into a street. After running for a few moments, in his peripheral vision, he saw a large wooden obstacle was blocking the way. Upon looking over the object, he found that the height was much taller than him, which means, he would struggle to go over it with a jump, just like in the chimney earlier. He would need to climb.

Glancing from side to side in an attempt to find an alternative way, alas, there was no other way. There were no other streets, no other doors he could break in and enter through; moreover, the street was too narrow for his comfort.

Thus, with a decisive decision, he increased the force he exerted in running, thereby giving more distance between his steps and in turn exponentially increasing his speed. With a kick from his foot, he leapt through the air, and in a span of a few moments, he reached out both of his arms.

Not wanting to waste the momentum that were used, he grabbed off the side of the obstacle, once there, he could not help but glance from side to side, and when he did, the obstacle seemed to be a knocked over carriage that was blocking off the entire streets. As to why it got there, he does not know, and he would not want to either way.

With the force of a mountain, he exerted his strength to climb through the knocked-over carriage, and with a sway, he arrived at the top. Upon arriving at the top, he saw some movement in his peripheral vision; he stretched his hands and grabbed the pistol in his inventory and with a flick he aimed at the incoming ghouls atop the rooftops.

With a quick, decisive flick of a finger, he pulled the trigger. As he was about to pull, a movement came from underneath, and his senses tingled. From underneath the knocked-over carriage, came out a ghoul. The ghoul wore high-quality clothes and seemed to be of a noble. However, Quagmire does not really care.

He swiftly readjusted his position, and in a moment of decisiveness, he jumped off the carriage, bypassing the ghoul. As he was in the air due to problematic circumstances, he clicked his tongue. Although he is calm, the stress is a lot. No matter how great or good somebody is, stress is real, and he is also a human, despite living longer and almost to the point of eternity lifespan.

Once he landed, he immediately rolled away to give himself some distance, and once achieved, twisting the ankle, he turned with the pistol at the ready, and in a matter of moments, as the ghoul was still coming out of the carriage, numerous shots were fired.

The first ghoul that ambushed him, fell down with a flop at the ground, and the other ghouls at the carriage lay lifelessly at the ground near the carriage, they were not even able to get out of the carriage before succumbing to their second and final death.

Quagmire glanced from side to side, and once again clicked his tongue out of frustration. He wanted to save time, but shaved off more than expected. It was quite unfortunate, and he was quite upset as evident of his expression, which displayed a gigantic frown and knitted eyebrows.

He was about to shoot those at the rooftops; however, due to circumstances spanning a few seconds, he is now unable to, due to them having their bows knocked already. Thus, with quick movements, he dashed and went into the carriage, just as the ghouls on the rooftop shot their arrows.

The arrows flew with haste and struck the floor, the carriage, but none made it into their intended target, which is Quagmire, who had been hiding around the carriage and its contents, which were boxes, furnitures and the likes.

Upon confirming the arrows that struck, and ensuring his safety, he raised his right foot, and bent down the left knee into the floor. He realigned his body and placed down his pistol with both of his hands on the magazine and below the pistol.

Once placed, he moved his finger onto the trigger, and aimed. He fired two shots and, with visual confirmation, lowered his head again. On the opposite side, numerous thuds reverberated all around the area. When it stopped, he raised his head again and fired the remaining shots.

Numerous ghouls died and fell down lifelessly, and their bodies slid down and struck the hard concrete, making meat paste all around Quagmire. It was as if bodies were raining all around him. He did not think much of it and continued on his way.

After all, the street floors were vibrating, which indicated that there could be a massive horde on the way. Realizing his predicament, he grabbed a few improvised explosives and started to distribute them around the streets all the while running for his life.

If they are going to chase him, then he might as well prepare a trap for them, and if they continue to run on his path, and if others follow it. He could practically blow up the entire street, and all his problems would be gone in a flash flood of building materials.

After devising the strategy, he smirked. He might as well take it a step further and run through the entire city. This way, it would be much easier, and would not need all the secrecy. He would just blow them all up while they were actively hunting him, and they would not even know what was coming to them.

Upon realizing how vicious and great his plan was, his lips curled upward, into a giant smirk. Not only that, as he was running, the night was still high, which meant he could still use it to his advantage, which meant they would have really no way of knowing what even he was placing down. Which means there is no need to hide, as he could blatantly scatter the bombs everywhere, as they are in fact too busy chasing him to the ends of the earth.
