The Alpha's Rejected Omega

Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Islas heart felt heavy as she stared at the grand architecture of the pack house that suddenly looked intimidating. She noticed some servant she used to work with when she was here cast discreet glances at her but her mind was too clogged to pay attention to all of it. The messenger led her through the familiar walls of the pack house, everything still looks the same as how it was.

Entering the Alpha's chambers, She was surprised to see Alpha Marcus standing before her. When the messenger had said that the alpha sent for her,she thought that it was Damon.

Alpha Marcus turned his attention on her as the door closed behind her. Isla has always been intimidated by alpha Marcus as he always has this suffocating aura which seemed to make her break out in sweats. She kept her eyes trained on the muddy sandals on her feet unable to meet his gaze, her hands clasped behind her.

"You…you sent for me, Alpha?" She stuttered despite her great effort to remain calm.

Marcus stared at her for a few moments, his lips set in a thin line before he finally spoke up. "Damon's mate is very unwell and since you've been with the healer for quite a long time, I figured that you might be able to help"

At his words, Isla released a sigh of relief. *Maybe he just wants to punish me* She thought about allowing herself to relax a little bit.

"Yes, Alpha. I've learnt a lot of things from her, I think I might be able to help" She replied steadily.

"Follow me," he said, walking ahead of her with her trailing right behind him. The walk through the hallway was long and uneasy. Isla panted lightly as she tried to keep up with his long stride. When they finally arrived at Luna's chambers, Marcus pushed open the door before making way for her to come in.

Isla walked inside, her eyes settling on the figure on the bed. Damon's Luna–lyla laid on the bed,her body looking frail and her skin as pale as a vampire. Her hair clung to her forehead as sweat beads covered her face. Islas' breath hitched as she took in the sight of Lyla who looked like she was a few hours away from dying. A shadow moved by her right shifting her attention to the other person in the room.

Damon stood by the window, a cigar between his middle and index finger. He stared at Isla for a brief moment before looking at Lyla with an unreadable expression on his face. Without a word, he turned towards his father, offering a curt nod before exiting the room, his hands brushing Islas shoulder slightly making her hold her breath.

Isla closed her eyes trying to regain herself before she walked closer to the bed to inspect Lyla. Her stomach churned with disgust as she stared at the ugly wound on Lyla's neck up close. It's not supposed to be that way,the mate bond mark is supposed to be there. It was a sign that her body wasn't accepting the mark. The wound was red and pretty wet, starting from her neck down to her shoulder.

"I… how long has this wound been here?" Isla asked in a whispered voice moving her hair slightly to inspect it further.

From the corner of her eyes, she noticed Alpha Marcus exit the room leaving the both of them alone in the room. Lyla's eyes opened slightly revealing the light red colour of her eyes. "It's been… like this since the night of the mating ceremony" she whispered hoarsely in a low voice.

Islas' heart clenched in pain. *To think he was with her before coming to me*

Isla had heard of some times when the body rejects the mate mark but it was a very rare occurrence. Why was her body rejecting Damon's mark?

"I'll clean the wound and dress it so that it'll heal faster" Isla said rushing to the garden behind the pack house to gather some herbs which she needed before returning to the room.

Isla applied salve on the wound, cleaning it carefully before wrapping it with a fresh bandage. As she was completing the wrapping, Lyla's weak voice reached her ears.

"They'll kill me here. I'm going to die here" Lyla croaked in a very weak voice filled with fear. "I… I want to go please. I'm hurting so much. They'll come back"

Isla froze, her hands hanging over Lyla's bandaged neck. She stared at her, watching as tears welled up in her eyes. " Who'll come back? Who's doing this to you? " Isla said in a low voice glancing over at the door.

Before Lyla could reply, the door opened revealing alpha Marcus. Isla clipped the loose ends of the bandage before standing away from the bed. Her eyes flickering to Lyla distressed ones.

"How's she doing now? Is she okay?" Marcus asked crossing over to Isla making her take a few steps back.

" I dressed her wounds, I think it will heal faster now" Isla replied keeping her voice steady.

Lyla looked at Isla desperately as though silently pleading with her to do something. Isla couldn't do anything as she didn't want to alert the Alpha. Maybe she'd come here in the guise of checking her wound and figure out what's wrong.

"Okay, that's good to hear" Marcus said, staring at her with a strange look in his eyes. "Let's leave Luna so that she can rest a little bit. "

Isla nodded, quickly grabbing her stuff. She intentionally left her shawl on the bed so that she'd have a reason to come back here alone. She couldn't help but replay Lyla's words in her mind.

Marcus and Isla exited the room, closing the door behind them as they walked silently through the corridor with Isla in front. Suddenly Alpha Marcus voice echoed in the lonely corridor,

"How are we going to treat the sickness in your belly?"
