Chapter 6: Chapter 6
Back in the pack house, the large meeting hall was filled with tension. Damon sat at the far end of the table close to a large window where the alpha usually sits, his amber eyes fixed intently on the map showing the landmarks of their territory. Alpha Marcus, his father, stood just behind him staring out in space with his hands crossed in front of him,his face looking older from the worry lines etched on them. Damon's beta and gamma, Rhys and Cael sat close to Damon on both sides, having the same worried look on their faces. They were discussing the increase in the rogue's attack close to their borders.
"They're trying to draw a reaction from us," Marcus said in a sharp tone. "And we have to do something now or they'll think that we're weak and pathetic, we need to act fast"
Rhys nodded at his words. " I'll say we send a much smaller group so that it will be harder for them to detect the attack. There's something about this rogues that seem so off"
Cael said, " The patrol guard had made a report on seeing a particular rogue group multiple times in the last two months. I don't think they're rogues at all. Their attack looks so…coordinated"
Damon tapped his long veiny fingers on the armrest of his chair rhythmically. " Yea. Most rogues don't last too long outside a pack with no purpose. If they were rogues, they should have gone by now"
When a werewolf turns rogue it means they were banished from their
pack leading to slow corruption of their heart which often led to death.
"The attack has gone on for far too long," Marcus interjected, anger filled in his voice. "There's something they want, this is a calculated attack, they want something here"
Before Damon could say anything, a knock was heard from the huge wooden door of the meeting hall.
"Come in," Marcus ordered, his voice echoing in the large hall.
The huge door opened slowly revealing a young man who struggled to keep the heavy door open. "I'm sorry alpha Marcus for interrupting," he said, pausing for a moment to catch his breath. "But there's something important that I have to share with you"
Damon's gaze turned sharp as he glared at the tiny servant, his patience obviously thinning. " Whatever you have to say, better be very important or else…"
" It's very important, alpha," he said to Damon before turning his gaze back to Marcus. " It's… I"
Marcus cocked a brow at the stuttering man before him. "Are you going to talk?"
The servant stared at him hesitantly, his eyes drifting to the others in the hall briefly before turning back to Marcus."it's something private alpha… I…"
"Leave," Marcus thundered. "Damon,you too"
Damon bristled at the command. "If it's so important, it has to be concerning the pack and I should be here since I'm the alpha"
" I said out, " Marcus' voice hardened. " Go take care of your sick mate"
Damon stood from his seat angry, sending an angry glare towards the servant before exiting the hall. Once the hall was finally empty except the both of them, Marcus turned to the servant.
"What is so important that you have to tell me? And where's the healer you were sent to fetch?" Theodore demanded.
The servant tried to avoid his gaze as unease crept up his spine. He was starting to regret not keeping it to himself but it was too late to back down now. "I was about to send for her but I heard her talking to her helper,an Omega. I think I've seen her around when she worked in the pack house"
A dark look crossed Marcus' expression but it was gone as soon as it came. " What about her? "
"I… I was about to send for the healer as I was instructed" the servant started, his voice trembling slightly. "I overheard them saying that she was… she is pregnant… with the Alpha's child"
Marcus's face twisted in anger, his knuckles turning white from how hard he clenched them by his sides. " Are you sure that what you just said happened?"
" I'm very certain, Alpha, " the servant said immediately. " The healer said it. The omega is indeed carrying the Alpha's child."
Marcus remained silent for a few torturously long seconds before his lips curled up in an ugly sneer, his eyes filled with anger. " That stupid boy just created another mess," he muttered under his breath. " This will ruin a lot of things, damn!"
The servant remained silent, bowing over in an awkward position, beads of sweat resting on his forehead.
Marcus grabbed a nearby chair flinging it across the room, the wood breaking as it made contact with the hard wall. Marcus had pulled a lot of strings and alliances which weren't clean to get Damon a clean alpha slate. A word about this scandal would bring it all down
"You must tell no one about this, not a single soul" Marcus said in a terrifyingly low voice. "Do you understand me?"
"Yes, Alpha," the servant said quickly.
"I'll make sure to reward you handsomely," he growled. "You can leave"
"Thank you Alpha " the servant said, a huge smile playing on his lips as he exited the hall. Maybe it wasn't a bad idea telling the alpha after all.
Marcus stood quietly in the hall deciding on the next thing to do. Alpha's were supposed to be good role models to others,an alpha who cheats on his mate is something the pack would frown upon. He needed to do something immediately before it catches up with him.
Walking out of the hall,he ordered the attendant standing by the door. "Send for the messenger" he barked loudly before walking away, not waiting for a response.
Few minutes later, a young boy who looked like he was around the ages of fifteen to sixteen walked into the king's chamber bowing very low.
"You sent for me, alpha?" He said carefully, still not looking at the alpha.
"I have a message that you need to deliver," Marcus said. " I need you to get the healer's helper. Tell her that I sent for her, I need her here immediately."
The messenger brow furrowed in a deep V-shape before he immediately fixed his expression. " I'll do as you instructed." It was no secret that Marcus usually slept with mistresses and omega when he wanted so the young messenger couldn't help but stray towards the possibility that…
Isla sat quietly on the bed gazing outside the window. From there she watched as Mira collected some herbs from the garden. A small smile played on her lips, Mira always felt like home and watching her tend to her made her heart feel warm.
She rubbed her palm together trying to warm her body up a little as the cold away blew towards her. Suddenly footsteps were heard coming towards the cottage making Mira pause the herb collecting. They watched as the young wolf transformed back into a human, his face flushed with embarrassment. Mira grabbed a cloth from the line handing it over to him to cover himself up.
"Thank you," he said, wrapping the cloth around his waist.
" the alpha has sent for Isla" he said respectfully.
Isla's heart pounded in her chest as her stomach churned with dread. She walked out of the room immediately. "The…the alpha?" She asked breathlessly.
"Yes," the messenger confirmed. "You ordered that you come to the pack house immediately "
"What's wrong? Is there a problem?" Isla asked cautiously in a strained voice, biting back the bike that rose up to her throat.
"I don't know, sorry" he said, shaking his head. "I'm only doing what I was instructed to do"
Why does the alpha want to see her? She thought, wiping her clammy hands on the side of her gown. " Ok.. okay. I… my… I'll go grab my shawl," she said before disappearing inside.
She returned a few moments later with a worn out shawl wrapped around her shoulders. Mira stared at her with concern aged on her face.
"Be safe and return early, I'll make your favorite soup," Mira said, placing a kiss on her forehead.
Isla nodded before walking behind the young messenger transformed into his wolf at one point.
*Why does Damon want to see me?* She thought to herself.
