Chapter 200- Monster Hunt (2)
Chances are that it was an A- or even an A rank monster. A monster of that class, other than the knights, no one can handle it.
"I see," Grey nodded. He then looked at Delicia questioningly, "If I may ask, how do you know the exact makeup of the monsters inside the jungle?"
At that question, the latter gave him a self depreciating smile and explained, "It's because I have been trying to clear them by myself for the past few months. The previous lord of the city asked for a fee of 300 gold coins. There is no way a poor village like us can collect such an amount even if we sell all of our possessions"...
"Since there was no way to ask for the help of the knights, I took up my sword again after many years. However, the result is as you can see…"
Indeed, had she been powerful enough to clear the monsters, the village chief wouldn't have had to come to their city with the request again. That said, for a former knight to be in such a state, her injuries might be quite grave.
"We understand. Our knights will exercise appropriate caution while clearing the monsters. We will begin in an hour. During this time, I want the chief to inform everyone to remain in the safe confines of their homes and not roam out"...
"Although I promise to clear the monsters, there is no absolute certainty in this world. If by chance any monster passes by us, it would put the villagers in danger. As such, I want you all to remain inside."
Grey stood up and gave his instructions. After that, he led his team and marched towards the forest.
"Sir Grey, how should we go about doing this?" Vangeance approached with a question.
"Commander sent me here to train the squires and help them gain more experience from this challenge. As such, we will be hunting the monsters in teams. Each team will have one knight. The role of the knight is to support the squires and recruits and interfere only when necessary. I'll leave the B grade monsters to you all. As for the leader who is an A rank, I'll see to it myself. Are my instructions clear?"
"Yes," the members of the Order of the Temple of Light shouted loudly. The villagers saw the knights boldly and gallantly march into the jungle. There was apprehension and a bit of hope inside their eyes.
.
.
"From now on, you all need to heed my orders. I won't take no for an answer."
Once inside the jungle, Vangeance stood in front of his group, comprising Keven, Gwen, and Rolan.
The three squires nodded their heads.
"That said, this is a training that the boss set for all of you. As such, don't even think about asking for my help and embarrassing him. Ya all understand that?"
Although from a ruffian, he became a knight; that aspect of him still did not leave his side. Vangeance began with casual, normal words, mid way it became quite thuggish.
"Um," Kevin raised his hand to question. "Who do you mean by boss?"
"Huh?! Of course, I am talking about Commander, you dimwit. He is all of our boss," the knight snapped.
"Does anyone else have any questions?"
The others shook their head.
"Good, now then show me how much you have progressed since joining the order. Your opponents are arriving just about now."
Vangeance closed his eyes. At this moment, the bushes behind him rustled, and then, in a dramatic moment, toppling down trees and land to collapse on itself, a horde of monsters arrived.
It looked like the monster wave was just about to crash onto Vangeance, when the latter moved like a ghost and disappeared in an instant.
"What are you all gawking at? Your enemy is further behind in the backlines," A voice suddenly sounded out from a branch of a tree.
Looking up, the three squires noticed the knight standing lazily on top of a branch of a tree. The direction he was pointing at, one could see a thirteen feet tall troll with a pale blue body and large tusks. It was holding what looked like a club made from the roots of an incredibly sturdy tree.
Next to it was an even humongous beast, a Cobra Cardinal. More than twenty meters in length and a green scaled body, its five eyes glared at the squires with the eyes of a predator.
Two B+ rank monsters and a horde of C and lesser rank monsters. No matter how the squires saw it, it was quite the powerful lineup.
"Hmph, don't tremble in your boots. If you want to become a knight in the future, then be ready to face all and every kinds of situations. A true knight is someone who overcomes all the obstacles thrown at him with a will of steel."
Saying that, Vangeance dropped down from the branch and stood in between the squires and the demonic horde. The next second, he unsheathed his sword strapped on his waist, this time holding it in his dominant hand, and slowly casting an enchantment skill.
[Blessings of Valor], a skill that every member of the Order of the Temple of Light needs to learn once they reach level 5. The skill temporarily boosts the strength, speed, and sharpness of any skill that was used in conjunction with it.
[Judgement Slash], a pure offensive skill that deals massive damage and releases all the holy power gathered into the sword at once. Also, one of the skills members need to learn when reaching level 6.
In that instant, Vangeance's sword was wrapped in a layer of light that caused his sword to increase in size. Right when the monsters were a few feet away from him, he swung.
At that moment, the dark forest was covered in a brilliant layer of light.
SHHH… when the light disappeared, so did the monster horde that was rushing towards them. One hit and all the C rank monsters numbering more than thirty were all gone.
